Elderly and immunocompromised will be first in line for Covid-19 booster shots if needed

SINGAPORE - If Covid-19 booster shots are needed, the elderly and immunocompromised persons will be first in line to get them, said the Ministry of Health's group director of crisis strategy and operations group, Mr Dinesh Vasu Dash, on Tuesday (Aug 3).

He added that "there seems to be some indication that the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccines could be waning a bit faster (for the elderly) than the rest of the population, perhaps due to their physiological make-up".

We will be the 3rd country to offer booster shot. Clearly in Israel and our data, our old folks who jab six months ago are losing protection.

I am confused. Has it been clarified somewhere if it is just SDA alone, can they enter homes to check? Say for example 1 or several SDA. Police officer in uniform is quite reassuring in SIngapore but remember that SDA are not professionals but temp jobs.

While I am not too worried if I am the one at home when they come, I am very supportive of them carrying out their work, though nobody (who is not doing a job) had visited my home since pandemic started. Not even my parents, relatives or friends.

I am more concern if lady or young kid alone at home when they come. I would tell my wife and kid to wait for me to come home first, and that is what I will do immediately.

Passengers should be fine since hardly any chances of interaction.

Inadequate sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 variants impedes global response to COVID-19

The lack of sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 variants by the U.S. and other countries is imperiling the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic, argues Dana Crawford of Case Western Reserve University in a new Viewpoint published July 15th in the journal PLOS Genetics.

But I feel should at least get them to go do swab test.. once test negative, they could go do their usual activities. Coz in the bus.. and there is certain enclosed space.

Australia records one of its youngest Covid-19 deaths amid Sydney outbreak

https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/australianz/australia-records-one-of-its-youngest-covid-19-deaths-amid-sydney-outbreak

"An Australian man in his 20s died at home of Covid-19 in Sydney, the authorities said on Wednesday (Aug 4), one of the country's youngest coronavirus deaths.

The man, who was unvaccinated, was 13 days into home isolation after testing positive when his health deteriorated rapidly, the authorities said, adding that he lived with one person who had been hospitalised with the virus.

The death highlighted the risk from the virus and the importance of getting vaccinated, said health leaders, who have set a target of having half of Sydney's population inoculated before lifting the city's lockdown by a target date of Aug 28."

After 2-3 weeks of HA, logically it will go down. If cannot go down then we really have to tighten CB liao.

Give another 2-3 weeks to be back to square one [laugh]

Who's going to first start saying dine-in for Group of 5 allowed again?

Businesses cannot tahan this kind of open-close-open-close-open-close ad infinitum. F&B owners and workers playing musical chairs and tables rearrangements every few weeks. The employees also, rather than take the unpredictability of next months' paycheques - better to sign up as SDA for more stable income, right?

Opening up for a few weeks will just reveal yet other loopholes that no one is aware of at this point in time.

Should have started with this to begin with.

IMO, one of the challenges with the mRNA vaccines is the need to be stored and distributed at ultra low temperature. Pfizer one need like -70 C and Moderna one -20 C.  These temperatures may pose logistical challenges for  poorer 3rd world countries

Partly because under 40s are NOT eligible for ANY vaccines until few days ago.. the message here is confusing and misleading... vaccination rollout here has been a shamble!
