While it might not look huge in these photos, it is actually a full size MPV, measuring 4,950mm (L) x 1,850mm (W) x 1,734 mm (H) x 3,055mm (WB). This make it even larger than the JDM Honda Odyssey and VW Sharan. It will be available in China for now but likely will be sold in other part of the world later.

Hyundai will have fun time challenging the incumbent, Buick GL8.

All 3 rows of GL8 can sit adult.

This is smaller than GL8 , I drove both the Sienna and Odyssey in the US , they are very big size MPV,  even longer than the Velfiee here, making them very comfortable for 3rd row passengers while still having good boot space.

The look, especially  interior overtakes Japanese brands by miles. Any news about the engine? Turbo or hybrid? Will be disappointing  if they roll out NA engine only.

The creases at the side profile kind of overkill for me.

Interior is neat and functional.

The side profile is just the effect of lights and photography, actual should be om.

Should name it Trajet, for old times sake. 🤭

I always call it  as Tragic😅😅.

The OMV of Hyundai models have been much lower than the Japanese equivalent,  if the OMV of this model takes the same trend, then it will be a serious threat to Odyssey which is the only full size MPV in the market .

At 5.2m long, the GL8 is a different class from this Custo. It's nearest competitor would be this 5.3m long VW Viloran.

Pal, I posted the engine spec at the bottom of my previous post. 1.6T and 2.0T, no hybrid option.

BTW, JDM Honda Odyssey will stop production in December this year, and KM is currently taking order for the last batch, which is target to arrive in late December.

Going forward, Singapore will only have VW Sharan (Seat Alhambra also cease production in early 2021), and the other boxy MPV (Toyota Triplet, Honda Stepwagon and Nissan Serena).

This is a good alternative for those who feel that the Kia Carnival is too huge.

Yah, saw the new Carnival on the road and indeed I find it too long for most MPV buyer. This Custo will be a better fit for local market.

Than should Hyundai also reintroduce the Pony, Stellar, Excel, Matrix, etc. OK, maybe in EV form. :D

Not sure yet as the launch of this MPV will be on 26 August. Here's are some real life shots, which look like a plain Jane.

Thanks for pointing that out, the 2.0T makes a lot of sense. Let's see the pricing next.

Any idea what Honda is going to do with its short-life  JD hybrid Odyssey ? Maybe  a Turbo version?

This kinda mpv makes you want to hire a driver so that you can get to enjoy the middle row seats. But for anyone who could afford to hire a driver will buy such an mpv or not? Haha...

It is more suited for limo companies or be a luxurious taxi.

For me I do not like driving such cars.

I personally also think 8 seater is a more practical foamily MPV. While 7 seater is more luxury, 8 seater is the one that can really carry 5 persons on the second row.

@Atrecord what is your take on this MPV?

how, finally Hyundai will come out with a MPV to fight with Ody/Estima. Long overdue.

This looks like it will provide good competition for this MPV segment. The boxy MPVs, while comfortable, might be a tad troublesome/worrying for those who might go to old HDB carparks or old malls whose carpark height is under 1.8 m.

The 1.5T will be added attraction in the form of reduced road tax, although not sure if it's gonna be powerful enough.

Design-wise and feature-wise, i think Hyundai will not be too bad, judging from their recent offerings of Avante, Tucson, Palisade, etc. And if it's not as huge as Carnival, then might indeed be good.

But hor... my worry is that... KMC is starting to price its cars at - in my opinion - ridiculous prices, so i'm worried that even if it does bring this model in, this will be no exception. The price for Avante now can get a Tucson 4 yr ago. The price of a Tucson now can get a Sorrento in the past. And Palisade is >200K, as is Carnival... Looks like Korean cars are taking the cue from Korean phones (Samsung), and really dares to price them high. Encroaching on Conti territory already.

Too bad the Japs are hopeless nowadays, and do not have products/models that can match up to these, thus allowing the Koreans to raise prices daringly.

8 seater is a good transportation solution for families that have more than 4 family members. Though a sedan could take 5, there is no way for a sedan to beat the space that offers by a MPV loaded with 5 full size adults. If one needs to carry more than 5, then MPV will become the obvious choice.  The enjoyment of people who buy MPV is about being able to ferry more family members together, not the enjoyment of driving experience from the car itself.
