WASHINGTON (REUTERS) - A drone strike in Kabul last month killed as many as 10 civilians, including seven children, the US military said on Friday (Sept 17), apologising for what it said was a tragic mistake.

The Pentagon had said the Aug 29 strike targeted an Islamic State suicide bomber who posed an imminent threat to US-led troops at the airport as they completed the last stages of their withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Even as reports of civilian casualties emerged, the top US general had described the attack as "righteous".

Apology seems cold and forced. Say sorry also can't bring back the dead

In wartime civilian casualties is to be expected but with the surveillance technology they have, the lives lost is one too many

Disaster for the biden adminstration

Suppose the reason that intel has sucide bomber at site targeting at USA soldiers is true. It' a split second tough decision to make.  If hesitate, hundreds of USA troop may die. If pull trigger, pray to God it ws the right decision..

It's an impossible job defending them when they already admitted to this. Please put whatever split second tough decisions aside. It's not tough when they have been doing it for so long. It's not tough when they have no emotions doing it.

If you are going to look at the statistics of lives lost between US troops and Afghan civilians, it's going to be highly disproportionate. Even if you add in, victims of 911, it's still the same case.

Once again, don't need to defend them. They admitted to this because there are no consequences to this. World should learn to suck it up.

I think the better topic for taxi drivers would be on our government handling of Delta variant and how much reserves we actually have.

I hope taxi companies recommend the better topics for their drivers instead of restricting sensitive topics.

Relatives of Afghan family killed in US strike want face-to-face apology

Haidari, whose brother Naser and young cousins also died, said the US had made no direct contact with the family.

Most of them had worked with Americans," Haidari said. "Naser had worked with Americans for about 10 years. My uncle had also worked with international organisations."

At the time of his death, Ahmadi was working for a US aid group.

See ? US has no choice but to come back and talk to the Taliban, the very pple whom they label as terrorist. 😜

'This meeting is not about granting recognition or conferring legitimacy. We remain clear that any legitimacy must be earned through the Taliban's own actions. They need to establish a sustained track record,'

they are in self denial mode🤣

Drivers should not talk at all. No discussions of politics, sex and religion.

His job is to just send passengers from point A to point B, he's job is not to show he's "smart" and understand the world.

So STFU and drive only.

I doubt so - Going to cost the US arms and legs just to transport all their left-over weapons back from Afghanistan. More likely Washington is trying to "win back" some influence in the region by other means like  $, aid or lifting of economic sanctions in exchange.

For sure, Taliban may only agreed to 10% of what US can offer or reject it due to the facts that for the past 20 years, Afghan had been destroyed by them.....

How about the lives they killed, the peoperties they bombed and the losses of the Afghan peoples? Can $ buy back all these? USA is always about themselves and how to take away $.
