Borneo motors CEO jasmine  say COE will hit 70k after July, and stay there for sometime. A bit late but still happen, it show the couple of big players can potential “influence “ the market due to the orders/ sales volume  on hand

what is the reason for Cat A to drop? anyone?

Maybe is because when coe is high, it makes sense to buy more expensive car, as the percentage difference between b&b cars and luxury car becomes smaller. So more people are buying luxury car than cat a car, hence the drop.

2021 feels like 2011 i.e. it is following a 10-year cycle.

Taking history as a guide, COE prices will peak between 2022 and 2023.  The price gap between Cat A and B will continue to widen, but catch up as Cat B peaks.

True, most people change car is not due to car give problem, but it is their practice/habit must change car every 4-5 years. Lol. So you can see many cars really in good condition or even still like a new car when they sold their car.

We are comparing against different periods for the PHVs.  Yours should be the 2016-2018 Uber and Grab expansion period and the demand of COEs for PHVs is definitely lower now.

Mine is relative to 2011-2015 period when PHVs did not exist.  E.g. if Cat A COE quota per tender is 700, 50-100 could be taken up by people who are driving as PHVs.  The effective quota available for personal use is therefore even lower.

$100k COE will be worrying even for those who own a car now.  They will need to start saving for their next car or COE renewal a few years down the road.

No need buy car leow, over past 1.5 yrs everyday work from home and largely in lock down state. Buy car to keep in garage?? :D

No doubt a lot WFH but own car is still the safest mode of transport now to move pt A to pt B (other than work, such as to school, grocery trip, outings etc) in view of covid.

Reduce one form of risk due to exposure in any public transport be it bus, mrt, grab, taxi or bluesg (rental car).

Need vs want  , just get a reliable car will do, no need to buy new or flashy car. Or course if can  easily afford, buy what he/she likes.

Demand for COE remains strong. While many are looking to buy first car or replacement, there are those buying for their kids to drive to camp or school

Demand may not be as strong or rather staying constant,  but because of the COE crunch,  demand outstrips the limited available COE, resulting in escalating COE price.

Agree, and driving car is definitely safer from covid than taking public transport.
