No bicycle registration needed; motorists should keep 1.5m distance when passing cyclists: Panel
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/no-bicycle-registration-needed-motorists-should-keep-at-least-15m-passing

Can't get more lame than this. No requirement to keep left (now just a guideline), no caution against running red light, no zilch. As usual, compare Singapore with other countries, not other cities.

Keep left has always been part of the rules just like not running against red light.

>>>>>>The AMAP also recommended that cyclists be allowed to continue riding two abreast on roads with two or more lanes "for their safety and visibility".I am thinking if they allow cyclist to ride more than 2 in abreast, like 3, 4 or even5, may be would improve their visibility further which means would  be safer?
the comitee should be making more constructive recommendations such as wearing bright reflective apparels, mandatory blinking light regardless day or night, or even minimum number of blinking lights front and back etc.

should ride single file for roads with 2 lanes lah

if they occupy one lane, the cars are left with the other lane.. sure jam one

the buses will also overtake using the right lane

so many cases of our precious car damage by cyclist, since when they pay up??🤮

encourage is the wrong word. its 'MUST' all vehicle using the road must have 3rd party insurance at least

Correct. Cars have VRN. You commit an offense, they can track you and your previous 18th generations of ancestors and slap you with a heavy fine. Bicyclists?

With such recommendations, drivers sure unhappy and can't sleep well at night. In drivers' speak, this review got review machiam no review.

The problem cannot be solved unless govt came up with draconian measures, OR travelling abroad becomes possible again and new cycling hobbyists start selling their newly purchased bicycles and stop riding on the roads altogether.

Not enough people die so no justification to change the law. Proven by e scooter fiasco.

"motorists to keep a minimum distance of 1.5m when passing cyclists on roads."

It means :

  • if cyclist is near the curb, overtaking vehicle must be minimum in lane 2.
  • if cyclist is riding near right side of lane 1(because of parked cars along the road), then overtaking vehicle needs to be in lane 3.  :lll._.:

The new proposed law greatly favours cyclists.….

Lol minimum distance of 1.5m when overtaking cyclist. How to be 1.5m distance away without switching lanes?!?! Means those single lanes will have no choice but to follow behind slow cyclists?!?!

Whats worst is no registration means no responsibility. The cyclist can literally do whatever nonsense they want without fearing being identified. The part about costs of implementation is nonsense because it is a money making opportunity. They just need to charge registration fees…..
