SINGAPORE - Vaccinated travellers will be able to take flights between Singapore and Malaysia without quarantine from Nov 29.

The long-awaited reopening between the neighbouring countries will pave the way for families and friends separated by Covid-19 to reunite, as well as for workers to come in and for business links to resume.

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Malaysia Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a joint statement on Monday (Nov 😎 that the countries will launch the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) between Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The two prime ministers had spoken on the phone on Monday, and agreed that it is timely to progressively resume cross-border travel in a safe manner, given the “significant progress that both countries have made in vaccinating their respective populations and managing the Covid-19 pandemic”, said the statement.

The reopening covers only air travel, and does not include land travel via the Causeway or Second Link.

"The Prime Ministers also look forward to restoring travel across the land links between both countries in the near future," said the statement.

Mr Lee said Singapore and Malaysia enjoy deep, warm and multi-faceted relations. The VTL will help “revive our economies, restore our people-to-people ties, and strengthen our bilateral relationship”, he added.

In a Facebook post, Mr Lee said: “We are also discussing reopening travel across the Causeway and the Second Link. We look forward to launching a similar VTL scheme between Singapore and Johor in the near future.”

Datuk Seri Ismail said the VTL is another important milestone in the longstanding cooperation between both countries, and that he looked forward to the effective rollout of the scheme.

Singapore’s Transport Minister S Iswaran said in a Facebook post that businesses will welcome the resumption of quarantine-free travel, and citizens in both countries will be able to reunite with their loved ones after nearly two years.

Or, you could always take the VTL to Malaysia via air travel, then rent a car and drive all the way to JB for your KSL and JB lok lok and grocery shopping, then drive all the way back to KL to take a flight back to Singapore. Ok I'm kidding. Don't do it. Hahaha.

As a rough guide, PCR-RT costs for VTL travel to Malaysia should be approximately :

Before travel from Singapore, PCR-RT swab in a Singapore clinic is $125-$140
Before travel from KLIA, PCR-RT swab in Malaysia is approx RM200
Arrival at Singapore Changi Airport, Raffles Medical PCR-RT is $160 (from 18 Nov 2021, the fee for PCR test at Changi will be S$125).

Imagine Changi or Seletar launches the region's shortest flight to bring travellers to Senai...... the customs clearance on both ends will be ten times the length of the flight!

come on open the land borders, thats what most people are waiting for, pump petrol 😀, buy groceries/food stuff and most importantly clear carbon on NSHW😎.

But but got feeling once open up, Malaysia finest polis will be waiting at every R and R stop  or up and down NSHW to help " patrol" and ensure safety of all cars since long long time SG plate cars havent driven there

For those who haven't seen their families for a long time, this is probably the only way for now. Those who can wait should wait till next year. For all the news that Malaysia covered on opening borders, Singapore never did. It was always speculation on Malaysia's side only, and the constant pressure on Singapore to open borders.

Singapore power la, what a wonderful surprise Malaysia VTL. Wasn't expecting that. The first wave of travelers ain't for us, its for Malaysians and Singaporeans that haven't see their loved ones for the past two years. Now that PM Lee has mentioned land borders, It'll surely happen next year. But if its news from Malaysia, nah. Haha.
