I hope the authorities on both sides used the last 1.5 years to upgrade the causeway. However, with the lack of income and budget constraints, doubt much improvement works were done. We'll be back to the hours long jam when land traffic start flowing again.

This is the reported swab costs for SIN-KUL vv VTL. If this is any indication, the land crossing VTL may require almost as many swabs and won't be much difference in cost.
VTL is not meant for that quick weekend visit to the sleazy joints in JB. 😁

The cartoonist actually got it wrong, despite it being funny.
The land VTL is via designated bus transport, NOT private Singapore registered cars. The polis have nothing to be so happy about, yet.

But then, M'sian wants everything  - Wants to earn SGD, Wants to live in "cheaper" M'sia, Wants to good life of both sides of the Causeway.

The Reality is there is no Free Lunch. 😜

In reality, many of them have already eaten the free lunch and retired after working in SG for years.

But here we are thinking there's no free lunch because it makes us feel better.

Of course there is no "free lunch".

For those that want to maximize their earnings due to the currency difference, they really must stay in malaysia and commute to SG for work every day. All this takes a toll. Imagine waking up every morning when sky is still dark and braving the queues and jams, then repeat at the end of the work day, reaching home only later in the evening?

As for those choosing to rent a place and live in SG while working, that puts a dent in their earnings, not much better situation than a local.

But for professionals, degree holders, it makes not much difference if they return to malaysia or work in SG. Had a few univ mates who were malaysian and some of them chose to return to malaysia for mnc jobs and have moved on overseas. The 3-year compulsory bond to work in SG in fact worked to their advantage because of the working experience added their value upon returning. The few that stayed and became PR, not much different lifestyle from the rest of us. No pot of gold and the next generation must still continue the slog.

well said ... i know someone who bike from JB to SG to work and return home

every dollar earn got sweat and blood

leave early, reach home late, stuck in custom for hours breathe in carbon, risk of accident especially when heavy rain, etc

who want to do it if not for $$$? definitely no free lunch ... you need to make your own lunch

isn't everyone wants to stay in GCB and drive Maserati to office and park at reserved lot ... [laugh]

First day of operations and so far, not very smooth. One batch of passengers from Singapore stranded in JB Checkpoint for 1.5 hrs because the driver did not bring along the passenger list. This bus was despatch to help out another bus who is late coming into Singapore. Also, one case of C+ detected at Larkin. Don't know the rest of passengers traveling with C+ passenger needs to be quarantine or not?
