Why people cannot just don’t drive after drinking? Public transport readily available and valet service is just for a small fee of $30.  Our laws must come down hard on them otherwise more innocent people will suffer.

Only need to follow japan law. Jailed the establishment server that did not ensure that the driver was within the legal limit.

Drunk driver. Insurance will contest having to pay for damages and compensation.

Jail the driver and sue him for the damage and death.  Bankrupt him for life. He has to pay for his wrong action.

If thats a A45, he probably have deep pockets to drag and delay the process.

Not if he is charged with manslaughter as there is a death. Instead of drunk driving.

Now by 10:30pm must stop drinking alcohol outside, so by 11pm already there will be drunk drivers on the road.

Last time this kind of terrible accidents due to drunk-driving only happen in the wee hours of the morning.

Drink driving - at most jailed 1, 2 year again. No deterrent value.

Since there is a death and speeding and maybe also drink-driving, charge him with man-slaughter.  Then there will be a long-sentence hanging over his head.

This cannot be just jail a few months, fine and ban.

There’s death, speeding, reckless driving and drunk driving.

RIP to the Toyota driver. Just waiting at the traffic lights also kenna like this. The impact is horrendous.

I believe Insurers have to pay first for 3rd party liabilities, then claim back from policyowner if not covered. Else why mandatory 3rd party coverage.

Not pertaining to this drink driving case.

I think with the 1030pm timing... those people will try to binge drinking for last orders around 10pm.

Then all everyone including those never drink will go home after dinner.

I say let some F&B operators extend to 12am. Many family restaurants will still maintain to about 1030pm.

Then majority of people would have gone home by then...

And those who drink probably will not need to binge drinking until 1030pm.

PHV and taxi drivers will have 2 timing for passengers.

1030pm and 12am.

Correction note: Police have clarified that the 33-year-old male driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and not arrested for suspected drink-driving.
