Not only hamsters; chinchillas, guinea pigs and rabbits as well. 

"The AFCD and CHP also collected 511 samples from a warehouse at Tai Po where the pet shop, which has 14 branches under the franchise, stored the hamsters and other small animals, such as chinchillas, guinea pigs and rabbits. Leung said the testing was still underway but they have detected multiple positive results from environmental samples, like on animal cages."

Most of the animals for sale are not in the pet store itself. Just like Pet Lovers. When "stocks" are low they'll replenish those in the stores.

Why should innocent hamsters die because of dirty humans?

Instead of culling the cute hamsters we should just do away with with unhygienic people.

All we need is clean ladies and a sperm bank.

Instead i give HK authority 👍for taking decisive action, ppl forgot europe cull millions of minks because of cov scare.

You should add culling of millions of birds (chickens) and pigs during  Avian and swine flu episodes and noone protested.

Haha... At least those actions successfully kept the diseases at bay, this hamster thingy is a bit more iffy. I think HK is chasing a ghost. Zero Covid is untenable.  China will probably reverse its policy after Emperor Xi's enthronement party this year and HK will end up looking more and more like a lamb.
