Civic nice meh? So ugly

Yeah - too many lines, too fussy....

I would check the safety features of the shortlisted cars first - make sure air bags all round - given the atrocious driving by many kuku/reckless drivers nowadays.

Am thinking of changing to a sedan from a crossover, due to itchy backside, excuses are unsatisfactory fc and poor acceleration, before my legs are too weak to squat getting into car. What's your preference and what you think of each choice ? Hope to get some pointers from fellow forumers. Thanks.

I personally think that the hyundai avante is a good buy. the feature alot alot like conti but still priced fairly good.

Yes Avante is naturally the mainstream choice, but the futuristic design is not for me. I heard the new engine is a vast improvement over the Cerato though.

Actually I like the Civic, follow by City and then the Cerato, in descending order.  In terms of practicality, the Cerato, City, Avante and then the Civic.  So if i aggregate them out, the City comes out top.  But it seems like the least popular choice from the poll.

Ok, after gathering views (with thanks !), the next step is to do test drives of all the shortlisted cars, feel the real difference and find out the actual price.  Then make decision.  after that, one less thing to bother about.  I will post my feedback of the test drives and the decision here as a closure.

How come you no consider altis le? Since civic and altis always comes to people list if they are looking for either one of the car.

Maybe it's because the Altis is too ubiquitous, aka boring.

@Ingenius after reading all 5 pages at one go, i would say go for the one you set your heart on - the civic.

your finances can stretch to the civic, this is the car you like so you are likely to drive for longer - hey, you may even like it enough to pay the coe when it reaches 10 years .. the longer you keep the car the less it will likely cost you in terms of riding out the depreciation.

if you get one of the "compromises" not in the belief that you are saving $20000 or whatever, you may well end up spending it when you are in this same position in 3, 4 or 5 years - as someone said earlier, keeping your car for as long as possible will mean the best depreciation annually for you - dont just look at today's price, buying a more expensive car but likely keeping it longer will likely cost you less or no more than a cheaper car now, but feeling the need to change in a few years ..

all the best in your choice!

Must be sedan? How about hatches like Shuttle or Prius?  Avante may be one of the better sedans in this range, but I still can't get over it's looks.

Avante design is either you like it or hate it. Lol. For me, i dont really like the current avante design, esp the rear. Lol. Still prefer the 2016 elantra design.

When I first saw the current civic also thought too many angular lines not nice.. but after many many months the looks kinda grow on me and now I think it's a nice looking car.  Don't think I will get to say the same about the current Avante though...

If I am not wrong the Cerato is VES neutral, no rebate, so the PARF is higher than the Avante, and depreciation lower than the Avante also. Given the Cerato's lowest price among the choices, it's rich feature set and I like the exterior styling, it appears to me as the most practical choice.  But the engine (power and fc) cannot make it as compared to the Avante and City.

Everything is a compromise of many things.

Cerato vs Avante, what I last heard was that C&C Kia offers 10 years warranty on engine and 5 years warranty on drivetrain/transmission; maybe this peace of mind may more than offset the Avante's newer specs/features.

Nevertheless, it would be great for you to go to the showrooms of your shortlisted choices and try out and test-drive the models to get a more real-world vibe of those cars and see which one you will be able to live with in long-term.

If you are more comfortable in being in a crossover, maybe you can also consider crossover models which are more fuel-efficient or more economical to run than your current XV?

It would be best to get the car that you can really be comfortable in daily use and long-term, yet can overlook some of its deficiencies vis-a-vis other models.
In life, very difficult to have the cake and still eat the cake.

Wish you a happy new car shopping experience. :)

From the side profile, i think the new Civic looks like the Accord. And this is a good for the Civic buyers.:D

To me is not. 😄

Coming from a Crossover, I want a sedan this time, else no point changing to something same same.

I know Octavia is a good premium b&b car, and what with the turbo. but due to my short distance travel pattern and safe driving when with family, I don't think turbo will come in much use for me.

Agree, some cars may be priced cheaper on the front, but due to their low PARF, their depreciation may be close to another more expensive car like the City.  Hence I am inclined towards the City RS.  Comfort, relatively quick acceleration and FC are important to me.

I did consider this, but somehow it doesn't tick my boxes. For the price of Mz3 (high spec) I'd rather go for Altis or the new Civic. My annual mileage is around 15k km, less than my air mileage before the pandemic.

you already answered your own question bro. Have u test driven all the shortlisted cars? Go test drive it and have a feel of what you will be driving for the next few years.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I dont like hatches and cars shaped like Shuttle, definitely out and the shape of the Avante is not something that suits me, prefers something mature look.
