Self-defence weapons are illegal in Singapore?

Can I Carry or Possess Weapons for the Purpose of Self-Defence?

You are not allowed to carry weapons for the purpose of self-defence. Under the right of self-defence, you are allowed to defend yourself, or your property, against an offence.

However, you are not allowed to use greater force than necessary to defend yourself. Thus, the use of a weapon to defend yourself, whether the weapon is an imitation one or real, might be considered excessive if the attacker was not using a weapon against you.

Even if you do not use the weapon, possessing a weapon for self-defence (e.g., simply carrying it in your bag) will still be a criminal offence. A 32-year-old man admitted to carrying a 20cm butter knife for self-protection when he went to the home of an acquaintance. He was jailed 3 months for the possession of an offensive weapon.

While I completely understand and agree with the rationale against possession of any self-defence weapons such as knives etc, can't help but to wonder, how can we as a society do more to help fellow members of the public? It's the same intent as keeping a fire extinguisher in your car, etc. Never know if we may need it one day or perhaps help another motorist in need. A fire extinguisher can even be used to fend off an attacker.

What about sporting equipments such as baseball bats? Tops my list. Is a baseball bat illegal to keep inside our car? I googled and there are some which can double up as a torchlight too.

Do y'all keep something similar inside your car just in case or for those trips up north? Nothing illegal of course.

Let me tell you how "self-defence" in Sg works.

You, in a COE Toyota, take a steering lock and brandish it at a would-be attacker, you get 3 months' jail.

Someone else, in a brand new Bentley, takes out a 3 iron and brandishes at a would-be attacker, and everything goes away quietly.

That's "self-defence".

I think he is better off carrying a fork.

A knife sounds like an offensive weapon

but no one got arrested for carrying a fork right?

:D

You get stabbed with a fork, that can really hurt.

There is no self defence in Singapore. People beat you, you beat back, becomes affray.

As far as I understand, one way of self defence is to disable the attacker, but, you may get yourself into trouble.😪😡

As a lesbian trapped in a man's body I think like a woman and if a man

tried to rape me I will defend myself like what they try train women

in self defence against rapists.

:D

Just squeeze this and even if the man is fierce like a tiger

he will disabled and cannot fight back

You can take your chance but I am sure

your attacker will not be making a polis report

that you squeeze this and that he cried and ran away.

:D

No guarantee but the odds are with you.
