Yes, democracy is not perfect but it is also too early to judge China's one party regime is sustainable, if you removed the tumultuous cultural revolution and the disastrous great leap forward periods, it is barely 50 years old.

People like to talk about failed democratic states, ignore the successful/ rich one, celebrate China's success while pretending failed one party states like North Korea, Laos, Cuba, are paradise on earth.

Anyway, hard to convince CCP supporters to look at history objectively and over centuries rather than decades.

A lot of those ppl you mentioned are anti-AMDK.

It is easier to influence them with that rhetoric.

I read a lot of CCP Propaganda material too.

You read Chinese, so you are probably exposed to lots of it. I get my dose mostly via WhatsApp, lots and I mean LOTS of it these days.

For diehard fans, just some criticism can trigger very emotional responses, so I try to be more diplomatic to those who are not close friends, super sensitive. 😅

I have a few friends who are fanatically pro CCP and anti US. One even vowed never to visit Australia and Japan until they are more friendly to China and they are born and bred Singaporeans.

I haven't come across a Chinese Singaporeans who refused to visit China or HK due to his/ her political belief.

the irony being the number of zhuguo tourist to those countries pre-pandemic.

imo, naive to put any country/party on a pedestal. There are no saints, but some do better compared to others. And back to the thread topic, they didn't do well.

in any normal country, the cultural revolution death toll, the corruption, TAM, etc would have changed govt.

actually if Jap and Ger had won WW2, we could be speaking jap ger today and Im sure we can also use the CCP example to say they were successful.

perhaps in a way... the communist system is such that every new leader - who seek to eliminate previous one -  should be considered kind of a change of govt in their system.🤨

Hard to see that happen...🤔

They don't have the money to develope it.

If they seek backer,

Usual international lenders would want reforms and anti corruption measures etc that the new govt probably cannot or would not do.

the Chinese will probably again end up eating more of them for another 100yr.

Sri Lanka declares state of emergency after president flees to Maldives, tear gas fired

Sri Lanka declared a state of emergency on Wednesday (Jul 13) as thousands of people mobbed the prime minister's office after the country's president fled to the Maldives, following months of widespread protests against an economic crisis. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had promised at the weekend to resign on Wednesday and clear the way for a "peaceful transition of power" after fleeing his official residence in Colombo just before tens of thousands of protesters overran it.

As president, Rajapaksa enjoys immunity from arrest, and he is believed to have wanted to go abroad before stepping down to avoid the possibility of being detained. He, his wife and two bodyguards were the four passengers on board an Antonov-32 military aircraft that took off from Sri Lanka's main international airport, immigration sources told AFP.

The presidential party was reluctant to go through regular channels, fearing public reactions, a security official said, and as a result, missed four flights on Monday that could have taken them to the United Arab Emirates. Clearance for a military flight to land in nearby India was not immediately secured, a security official said, and at one point on Tuesday the group headed to a naval base with a view to fleeing by sea. On arrival in the Maldives, his party were driven to an undisclosed location under police escort, an airport official in the capital Male said.
