Bank don't accept my digital IC. Still need me to present my original physical IC.

Anyway digital birthcert does it mean any foreigner also can fake (fraud) a digital birthcert?

Wow population numbers going to increase very soon!

I think there is misunderstanding here, digital certs are harder to imitate than physical certs. Digital certs do not mean that it is a pdf / jpg file. It means you have to log into the secured server to actually download an encrypted file that can only be viewed via special programs.

Children born on or after 29 May 2022
- Issued digital birth certificate, instead of physical certificates
- Celebrate their birthday each year with a digital cake (promote heathy diet)
- All educational certificates (pre-school to PHD) are sent digitally with no graduation or convocation ceremonies (waste of time)
- Propose a marriage with a digital ring and digital flowers (save money and environment)
- Officiate wedding online with singpass, no need for ROM or wedding ceremony or dinner (waste of time & money)
- Issued digital wedding certificate
- Have tamagotchi children

Actually, this is a more common way now. There are so many fake physical certs and results slips now that the employers are logging in / requesting the university to send over a true certified digital cert and result slip to prove that your 1st class honour / dean list is real. Of course if they see that you are 2nd lower or below they do not even need to check. lol

The problem is that many people like to show their certs/degrees with their full names and everything on social media.  This happen in Linkedin everyday.

How come they never think that this is compromising their own data security and cert details which scammers can just make a copy? Or, use it as part of social engineering to know more about a person before scamming him/her?

It is crazy how much personal info people give out in the internet these days.

Now it is the norm for people to post all their personal info/photos on social media platform, even the person is not a celebrity. Whole world knows their face, their friends face and their family face, their name, where they stay, all their companies worked previously etc. This is why when they kena stomp in social media or committed some crime, people easily dig out all their personal info and photos of the person?! 😅

Physical birth certificate is useful for documentation at some country immigration.

Actually the perception of a birth cert isn't so much on one citizenship status but more of the child relationship to their parents.

Father/mother names on the cert imo.

need to hack system to steal those info? nowadays the whole life of those kids were like a mini documentary show in social media for the world to view, probably from the day they were born (with the courtesy of their parents), you get to know when they have their first milk teeth to the latest #xxx boy/girlfriend they have, first school to the day they graduate or even where they celebrate, most likely the first time they lost their virginity (with some may even do live stream).

Maybe true reason is to stop Singkies from emigrating. Apply other countries PR if like our ICA no birth cert not real person 🤣 then if other country ask ICA to confirm they know Singkie is fleeing elsewhere can anyhow sabo 😭

I think for foreigners whose babies are born here, they would likely still have to get an official BC copy from ICA when they bring their child back to their home country. Their home country might not recognize a printed copy that is not certified or a digital version.

Imagine sibling rivalry over inheritance in the future. One sibling pays a hacker to hack the other sibling's birthcert - changes father = tan ah kow 😆

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/birth-death-certificates-go-digital-ica-faq-2672641

now got FAQ.

Quote

“Government agencies and private entities, such as industry associations and financial institutions, can use QR codes included on all digital certificates to verify their authenticity,” said ICA.

“The QR code will be linked to an ICA system where details on the digital certificate can be verified against ICA’s database.”

At least they are dealing with the integrity issue.

Another piece if news relating to NRIC. Why are we wasting money and material to issue 11B? Why not just a tampered proof sticker on NRIC during the NSF days?

NSFs and regulars no longer need to surrender NRICs: MINDEF

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/nsf-regular-no-need-surrender-nric-mindef-mha-2672396

SINGAPORE: Full-time national servicemen (NSFs) and regulars will no longer need to surrender their National Registration Identity Cards (NRICs) when enlisting from May 15, the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) said on Monday (May 9).

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will also cease the requirement for Home Team NSFs to surrender their physical NRICs for safekeeping, starting from the batch of NSFs enlisting in May 2022.

Currently, all full-time NSFs and regulars are required to exchange their NRICs for Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) military identity cards.

From May 15, military identity cards will still be issued to all SAF NSFs and regulars as it continues to "serve as the primary document to identify themselves as SAF service personnel", said MINDEF.

NRICs will be returned to all serving NSFs and regulars in phases through their unit's Manpower Officers. The return of the NRICs will be completed by November this year, said MINDEF.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will continue to issue the NS identity card to their NSFs, and the NRICs of serving Home Team NSFs will also be returned in phases.

No need to safekeep all the NRIC liao, really making the job becoming so easy now?! Lol.

Many people can pass the test with their eyes close.

And they have been driving like that since.

another step to reduce some part of our existence to just some bits and bytes somewhere in some remote servers...

not that bad lah, since most of us are just some tiny negligible digits in this grand scheme of things now....  🤣
