Mkl22 Twincharged June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 (edited) According to this post. The bigger the better. We only need to follow the same specs the car came with, unless you are modifying the load electrical like adding a massive audio system. I’m always skeptical of local workshops and their theories. Adding a bigger battery when not required does nothing. It only adds weight and lightens your wallet. Watwheels Supersonic June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 I feel that the battery size is already "bigger". If you know engineers they are kiasu and kiasee. For ppl selling "bigger" batteries means more profit cos they will cost more.

Kb27 Supersonic June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 after you upsize battery, you must also upsize the alternator. after you upsize the alternator, you must also upsize your engine. 3

Kb27 Supersonic June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 Actually, I wonder why Nissan GTR, with 3.8L engine, comes from factory with a puny 45AH battery. need to upsize ?

I don't think there will be increase in power or help with FC but a bigger capacity battery will probably: - hold charge longer before becoming flat (ie. Coming back from long holiday finding your car cannor start up) - be able to sit in your car, run the HU/aircon/fan with the engine off for longer period of time before your car warns you of depleted battery and auto shut down to make sure you can start your car subsequently. But the discussion is moot in recent generation cars as car manufacturers are maximizing the engine bay space in the name of reducing unnecessary overhangs. Most battery space is designed to just fit a specific MaH size battery. Even if you want to go bigger is impossible without physically modify the retaining walls and bars. Gone are the days when the engine bay is only 80%filled.
Vratenza Supersonic June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 To illustrate my point... This is an example of modern day engine bay tight battery space:

Kb27 Supersonic June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 Imo, it's better to have a good working 50AH, than a half-dead 100AH battery. Change your battery out early. 1 yr, instead of 2 yrs. When the battery is half-dead, it sucks a lot of power, constantly, from the alternator/engine and it can never be fully-charged. The battery is an accumulator, it store charge, mainly to crank the engine. It should be in good work condition, all the time. Even a small 35AH battery can easily crank start a 4L petrol engine, if it's in good condition. Diesel engine is different, esp when it's difficult to crank start and sucks a lot of power from the battery. That's why you see commercial vehicles, all have big battery. If you use those small little lithium jump starter, you'll notice the difference.
badlammy 6th Gear June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 The trend now is actually to change to lithium car battery with smaller base like Tsapa. Some mobile rescue services carry them too.
ER-3682 Twincharged June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 Ask Ace Battery can upgrade Hybrid,Plug In Hybrid or Electric Cars Batteries to a bigger one,so that Range is more.?Like those E-Bikes changed to big big Battery & later caught Fire.
awhtc 6th Gear June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 My impression is bigger batteries tend to be better. Batteries may have better durability if they are not fully charged or depleted.

Agree, but change once a year is excessive. many fail to realize that a weak battery is a rather big load on the alternator. As like you said, it cannot hold charge and the alternator is constantly charging it. Resulting in higher fuel consumption and the alternator wearing faster. which is why some notice that after changing the battery especially for a smaller car, fuel consumption improves and the car feels more powerful. but obviously not the nonsense theory of a bigger battery helping.
