You need to read again. If change 4 pcs , bigger hole in the pocket and probably no recourse.

You need to read again, I said if the fault really did lie with the injectors. Not that I said the workshop boss is correct...

The fact is most of the time if the customer drives such a vehicle claiming that "not sure what the problem is"... Then we can be quite certain that the workshop will take advantage of the customer's ignorance of the car's issue.

I empathise with you TS.  However, you should have visited the Volvo authorised dealer's workshop, which a google search will surface.  Perhaps you wanted to save money and opt to go to outside workshop.  But the fact is, outside workshops are known to chop carrot, especially one which you never patronised before, so you must be extra skeptical and careful when quoted big repair amount.  From what a mechanic told me, a simple clogged\dirty throttle will result in a fuel injector error, something which can be solved for less than $100.  This should have been checked for first thing.

Also, you mentioned the Volvo manual states that the mileage is "about 800km per 40L(20/24KM/Litre)", this must be taken with a huge pinch of salt and greatly discounted.  Most cars will return just half of the stated ideal mileage in city area.  So the fuel consumption may not abnormal and nothing is faulty at all.

Hi Ingenius,

Thank you for the input...

Plse call me Kim..

Yes...My last E200 and 180 GLA were Agent maintained...service credits use for service and repairs, Cabrio done by an ex Merc mechanic at Alexander Village (always believe the specialize have the proper tools and computer system check )

The V40 cross country is a 2015 model...so no point going back to Agent...a Volvo Specialist will so the job.(but i was wrong on this choice)

Any V40 owners can check what is your current ride fuel consumption?

As much as it sucks, TS should prolly take it as an expensive lesson and move on.

No point stressing about going to Small Claims and all.

Hi Butcher,

Point noted.

I don't write much...more of a viewer in this forum...Great site with so much car info

What pissed me off is the indifference the boss replied to my text....last msg from him..."Do not disturb me at my rest hrs, U can go ahead with any action you want. We will not stop for it"....time text text him was 8.12pm.

When I first text him about sending car for him to check and repair...time was 7.05pm. Got time for new business??

Kudos to TS for taking the trouble to share the exasperating saga.

Thanks Hamburger...

@PSP415

Hi PSP,

Thanks for the suggestions...

1. Yes...written on the invoice as - Replace Diesel Fuel Injector (V40D2) (3717)....I can easily checked with Volvo if this part no. is correct for my model and year, if the need to submit this for the courts.

2. No....written Volvo V40D2 (2015) and Chassis no., Veh no.

3. No...

As mentioned...after Gary's replaced the No.2 injector....car is ALL well. In fact I pumped full tank last week and looking at the trip mileage estimate...will be better than 380km.

Kim

Yes, pls confirm with Volvo on correct part number for your ride. If its verified that what was used is incorrect, you can pursue thru Small Claims.

It will be a joke if this is the MTE you went to :

Warranty will be meaningless/irrelevant as wrong part is used.

Again, good luck and pls update us. Enjoy your ride now that problem is resolved.

Stay safe

Cheers

Although Money can be earned back but should teach that unethical workshop a lesson. Its a matter of principles. I will shame the workshop in every social media platforms that I have and even go to Small Claim despite all the troubles.

Hi Optramagnum,

Point well noted

You are right...The Principles matters

To TS,

The bottom line is the first workshop technical expertise rather than the spare part (injector) itself in contention. You can claim the labour charges but doubt you can claim against the wrongly installed injector. Injector wasn't faulty.

Take it as a lesson to always seek 2nd opinion or even 3rd opinion before committing to any major repair.

I have the impression that the injector from the furst workshop might be of the wrong type

TS has encountered two workshops in a short space of time, one to avoid and the other, reliable.

You are doing a good service to the general motoring public, in particular, MCFers. Unethical businesses should be exposed to save innocent customers from falling prey to them.

Thank you, TS.

Hi Kopites,

Thanks for your feedback...

When I when back to them...he insisted the Injector they changed  no problem...I reasoned with him...maybe the replaced injector was faulty in the first place, which he took my suggestion to replace with another piece from the same spare parts shop...but the problem still there.

After Gary's replaced with the right injector...all is good. ...Conclusion is simple

Go small claims. And spread the word. As long as you document everything and it’s true no worries on him threatening to sue.

Chill. I am sure you will get over it after a few weeks.
