Plse let me correct on your points....

Nothing to do with previous owner maintenance regime...when I got the car...all was fine....as mentioned, it did not get the millage as I would expect from a diesel car and this model proven to have very good fuel consumption.

Yes...if you read my post...I text the boss to tell him the problem and went back to him the second time....he was reluctant and keep saying problem persist because I did not change all 4 injectors.

He wanted to charge me again for labour if not his problem which i refused,...he relented and got his guys to check on the injectors again...switching with another new injector...but problem still there....if he had consider the fact the parts were wrong for my car...then he might have solve the problem...but no...he still insist to change 4 injectors was the issue.

I did not go workshop hopping  for the fun stake or to save a buck...I know at the point(after two visits)...they are not able to do it.

I text the second workshop asking him how much to change 3 more injectors(preparing for the worst)....and Gary replied was...nothing wrong with your other injectors...from his diagnose...only the no.2 injector is faulty.....and he was right.

I'm 65 years old...have driven many brand of cars, worked in the automotive industry before(Borneo - Champion plugs and Monroe shock absorbers )  ...might not be a DIY guy....but I know from experienced if the car not running right ....what i can tell you from past experience...brand new Champion plugs direct from USA gives problem....a good mechanic will fault find the problem(this is what the second workshop did)... another will tell you the pistons need to replace.

Kim

I know what you mean... But with car workshops sometimes, if the 1st one doesn't satisfy you and the 2nd one does, it's pointless to go back to the 1st one try to bang table ask for recourse.

Simple fact is, the parts already went out in your car, over to the 2nd workshop. Yes you say they fixed your problem, but if you want to return the part - how can the 1st workshop know whether the part was tampered with, or removed correctly when they diagnosed your problem right?

If I were the 1st workshop boss, I wouldn't take back that part that already went out in your car, but I'd probably give you a small discount the next time you come back for any kind of servicing (if you still dare to go back to them) as PR damage control.

Anyway glad you solved your problem, and enjoy your ride.

Your account is not the first and won't be the last around here - personally I buy my own parts and bring to workshop to change. That way, no misunderstandings, no incorrect parts supplied, no unnecessary delays waiting for parts etc. Maybe you can try that next time as well.

Hi Baregond,

Noted with thanks..

Which other SM I can go to beside Facebook reviews?

Hope to share with as many car owners as possible..

Kim

To be frank, u are not going to hurt them too much. Let off some steam and get on with it is the best way. Dun let this episode effect u too much,

u got see another thread on bad WS ( forgot the name, 1 of the AD for PI cars )

Got super alot of bad reviews and warning for years and years , but they still happily running and ripping off car owners till this day.

The car already fix. 1-2 k take it as lesson learn, and u manage to find a more capable and honest WS, make it your regular WS.

Its like we sick see doctor, if 1 doctor cannot cure us even after eating all his pills, we just move on to the next doctor.

Not true. I disagree. One injector failing does not mean all will fail at the same time. More likely the injector is clogged than and outright failure.

same for ignition coils. Unless it is easier to replace all at one go due to the amount of labour involved, you will be surprised that the other injector or coil can last some time more.

Ok la, everyone wants to nitpick what I said earlier... If the injector is bad then of course one can diagnose it properly and check if it's just clogged or is it really completely broke or failed due to age

I have not yet seen a workshop that will do this sort of diagnosis step by step, bit by bit... Most will just give you a new part and be done with it - coz they do not want to go through the hassle of trying to recon it for you and have you come back a few days later as an unhappy customer.

If it wasn't a clogged injector but a broke/failed one, then better to just change all 4 at once - because I own a car is to save time, not to come back the next month because another injector failed and needs a replacement.

Who the hell has time to waste like that by coming back every month to the workshop just to change the other 3 injectors, that are likely to fail (if the 1st one was found to fail due to age)?

OH wait...

Shitty workshop, collected money and didn't fix the problem and refused to rectify.

If he used the wrong parts, he really shouldn't call himself a Volvo specialist.

Totally no case.

If got 4 old spark plugs and one failed of course change out all 4 lah.

If got 4 new plugs and say one failed after 1 month just change 1 lah.

All the people here that say change 4 are only thinking old plug scenario.

Latio plugs are really hard to get to so if all old and one fail of course change all 4 lah but if just change all 4 one month ago and sway sway one fail change the other 3 also?

:D

Injectors last a long time.

Come back every month to change an injector?

How many people have even change one injector?

Who has ever changed injector every month?

:D

Arguing and insisting being right just to save face.

@PSP415

Hi PSP,

Thanks for the suggestions...

1. Yes...written on the invoice as - Replace Diesel Fuel Injector (V40D2) (3717)....I can easily checked with Volvo if this part no. is correct for my model and year, if the need to submit this for the courts.

2. No....written Volvo V40D2 (2015) and Chassis no., Veh no.

3. No...

As mentioned...after Gary's replaced the No.2 injector....car is ALL well. In fact I pumped full tank last week and looking at the trip mileage estimate...will be better than 380km.

Kim

Did you keep evidence of the "wrong injector" changed out by the second WS?

The injector is Volvo Original part or OEM?

I may be wrong but most of these parts will have their part numbers inscribed in an obscure area in impossibly tiny fonts.

With this part number, then you can approach the volvo AD or even a nice Volvo stockist to pull out the injector part number using your chassis code for the right part number to compare.

Invoices are typed by human, so it means nothing when the WS claim that they installed the right part but their account girl mistyped the invoice.

Only when you have proven the case then you can start talking about small claims court.

The workshop only needs to feedback to the stockist that wrong part was supplied due to incorrect car model given.

That should be the way to do service recovery, what other proof would you (if you are the workshop owner) need when the customer fixed the problem elsewhere and now comes back to tell you that you supplied and installed the wrong part for him?

Think the bottleneck is the workshop insisted that the problem persist because changing only No. 2 injector is insufficient but must change out all 4 injectors to resolve the matter.

Imagine if TS proceeded with change of 4 WRONG or INCORRECT parts? And problem still not resolved?

Its not difficult to pinpoint if a wrong part is used because the part number is indicated in the invoice.

Its important to note that TS lost confidence after returning twice to MTE to resolve this matter but the only solution presented to him is change all 4 injectors.

He decided to seek 2nd opinion and that's where its revealed that a wrong part has been used because once that's out of the way, viola, everything works well.

This ding dong would not have occurred.

Stay safe

Cheers

I read your post many times, but I probably am too stupid to understand what you mean.

You want to be pedantic about it - yes you are right: If 1 single part suffers premature failure just 1 month after all parts were replaced, sure by all means change just that 1 part.

Go ahead and change parts selectively if you know what you are doing - this is the bottom line of what I mean.

But you know I was not referring to that kind of scenario.

I am referring to the scenario where car owners change parts selectively not because they know the exact history of the car/car part but simply because they want to save a buck.

But you're a used car dealer - what would you know about the former anyway. Your SOP would follow the latter in order to maximize the profit margins of the used cars you sell.

This, everyone knows for a fact, but nobody dares to say it out loud to you to piss you off.

So don't try to find fault with what I say just because I am a personal car owner, and you're a car dealer, and obviously our mindsets towards vehicle maintenance are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

thanks for heads up TS.

personally find many shops now lacking standard.

most times they just want to replace and install and get it over and done with.

i find it better to stick to one workshop and build a working relationship.

Yes…I have it…see pics

A simple trip to Wearnes will be able to tell original part or not

Yes…printed clearly on the top cap

if you have used a scan tool before, you will know exactly which coil or which injector is failing. just like which o2 sensor primary or secondary is failing. I have had the experience of changing out only one coil pack out of 6. the rest of the 5 lasted another 50k km till i sold the car.

i'm glad that i was "richer" in the end. 😁

Unless like i mentioned earlier, the job is very involved like changing the water pump at the same time as doing a timing belt, i would just change out that one item.
