“Restarted” the season with an Away win at Villa (given our wretched away form)’ it’s very much welcome.

Goals by Salah, VvD and youngster Bajectic sealed the victory.

Worryingly, Nunez still misfiring and also Villa at times still able to cut through us.

Still it’s 3 points ahead of a busy schedule.

YNWA.

@Kopites ManU we’re linked with him for a period. Had a good showing at the recent WC. Hopefully his signing will lift us like L Diaz did.

But realistically, might need a period of acclimatization

Liverpool snatch a 'frog' aka kup-po away from ManU ... 😃

Liverpool to sign Cody Gakpo for 50 million pound in the next 48 hours.

Liverpool sign Cody Gakpo for £37m, gazumping Manchester United

Liverpool have gazumped Manchester United to agree a deal for Dutch international Cody Gakpo for an initial £37 million.

The surprise Anfield move was confirmed by PSV Eindhoven on Monday evening after talks were finalised for the 23-year-old attacker. A medical has been pencilled in to take place on Merseyside over the next 48 hours with Gakpo becoming a Liverpool player on January 1. Once the formalities are concluded, the fee could rise to a £50 million package.

In securing a deal, Jurgen Klopp is inflicting a major setback to United and their coach Erik ten Hag, who had made Gakpo a prime target and seemed to be confident of agreeing terms.

good 3 points. Pool technically 5 pts behind Spurs in 4th place but Pool still has a game  in hand.  So all to play for in terms of the top 4 spot.  Think Pool just about nick this game while the scoreline tends to suggest it was an easier game on paper. It wasn't and Pool continue to conceded chances to AV who could have scored a couple more. Having said so, Salah and Nunez could also have scored a hattrick each if they have been more clinical.

Gakpo at < 40M is a steal in today's market. Think the owners are worried with the LT injury to Diaz and Jota having an impact to Pool's UCL status, This will certainly affect their sale price of the club.  Strange that Gakpo is pretty tall > 1.9M but he is certainly a winger on the right. Abit awkward (like Sakho / Matip) but full of pace and can finish well.   Best part of the deal is that it is right under the nose of Utd, who is openly looking for a CF now that they have finally gotten rid of CR7.

Pool sneaked in and got Gakpo right under the nose of United. United was dragging its feet to put in a bid and close off the deal as it was already widely expected for the player to make the switch to OT.  To be honest, I can see why Ten Hart was not fully convinced of the deal as they needed a proper no.9 and Gakpo is more comfortable as a wide forward, which Utd has in abundance.  Gakpo played more centrally for the Holland in the WC but that is not his natural position.

With Gakpo in the door soon... I do feel the writing is on the wall for Bobby whose contract is up this summer.  I can't see how Klopp will keep a full suite of 6 first team forwards in the club unless the policy of the cub changes, perhaps with new ownership structure.  Once the likes of Diaz and Jota is fit, Bobby will also likely be the 5th or 6th forward in the order of starting a game, which at this stage of his career, may not be what he is looking for.  Obviously, the other alternative is for him to play the no.10 role however the problem is that this is not Klopp's normal set up.

The forward line of Pool seems replenished and refreshed in terms of age for the next cycle of players.  Gakpo (23),  Nunez (23),  Diaz (25), Jota (26), Salah (30) and Bobby (31).

Let's keep fingers crossed that the same happens for the midfield area in the next couple of transfer windows.   I won't be surprised if Klopp brings in a midfielder this window since Ox, Naby and Milner may likely be rotated out of the squad this summer due to contract expiry.

Liverpool FC have completed the signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven. Contract signed until the summer of 2028. Fee around £37m potentially rising to £44m. He will wear the No 18 shirt (last worn by Minamino).
