2023 Honda ZR-V

To be unveiled in Japan in September 2022.

Although it is sized between the HR-V and CR-V, but this new SUV will be replacing the CR-V in the Japanese Market, as they just announced the cease of CR-V production days before introducing this latest ZR-V. A strange move to me.

For those of you who are follow motoring news closely, you may find that it look very familiar and that you have seen it somewhere. Well, the same model is available in the USA recently, but using the HR-V nameplate. Another head scratching decisions by Honda...

I see that it is a plug-in hybrid. "Z" for zero? Hehe...not exactly if it is a hybrid.

The frontal design looks abit like Ford focus.

Ok lah. It is a Honda. Still good.

That's the Honda HR-V/Vezel in the US market!😄

Yes correct. Honda's strategy for US market is quite sound. They cannot be selling the JDM Vezel there because it is based on the Fit/Jazz architecture (and Honda stopped selling Jazz there for quite some time), while this ZR-V or USDM HR-V is based on the Civic. The market there demands bigger and more spacious crossovers.

Meanwhile the 2023 CR-V (also based on Civic) is now USDM only.

Then it seems that non-US markets' consumers are getting the short end of the stick. 😏

Our market is too irrelevant. EU market does have the JDM Vezel on sale as the HR-V nameplate. This ZR-V will likely go on sale there to replace the existing CR-V too. The USDM 2023 CR-V will not sell well in EU because people would have gone for the Conti crossovers/SUVs as they are looking for a bigger car.

Well.... I supposed that's Honda business model for some of its models; a slighter larger version of the same nameplate for US market vis-à-vis the global market. Started out some years ago with the Honda Accord.

(edited)

Mid sized cars dont sell well in JP. Like CRV etc.
This ZRV (the new US HRV) is about 3-4 inches longer than than the previous vezel sold in US.

But interior space really nowhere close to current CRV.

I think 'Z' is just another usable alphabet to Honda.

Fun facts: Do you know how many R-V are there in Honda product lineup? Go count it yourself. [:)]

  • BR-V
  • CR-V
  • FR-V
  • HR-V
  • UR-V
  • WR-V
  • XR-V
  • ZR-V

Sad to say, Honda has lost its way. I still miss the Civic, Accord, Integra, etc. with real VTEC from the 90s. And design was ahead of time back then too.

Why is Honda trying to uglify their cars when their competitors are doing exactly opposite ?

Which Jap competitors?

Saw at Japan Honda Showroom, finally the gear shift broke button push type but not as cool as Conti or Korean gear which is drive by wire turning knob.
