a logical person would have known that Taiwan is an independent country already (own currency, military, diplomacy etc). China would have you believe otherwise, obviously

If it's real that Taiwan is not independent, then why China has to make so much noise with regards to Taiwan? Why tell people you cannot draw the map like this, you cannot say this, say that?

 

Well, Taiwan (Republic of China) can jolly well unilaterally declare independence and alter its existing national boundaries by changing its constitution. While they are at it, Taiwan can also give up their claims over the South China Sea (for them its the 11 dash line) and evacuate their military bases in the Spartly islands.  

Question is, why have they not done so? 

Fun fact, until 2002, citizens of the Republic of Mongolia could visit Taiwan without passports, because Taiwan never gave up their claim over outer Mongolia.

@Sosaria More accurately, the free zone of the Republic of China. 

The rest of the provinces are within the occupied zone.

a claim is a claim only. a claim over something you do not have control over means er, it's a claim only.

if you try to seize something you claim and do not have control over, in many circumstances in the present day, it's criminal. like people trying to claim ownership over your apartment.

So Taiwan (Republic of China) should renounce their 11 dash line claim in the South China Sea? After all they only have military bases in a couple of islands of the South China Sea. They don't have control over the rest of what they claim. So ROC is just as criminal as the PRC?

Agreed. 

Once US has cut off it's dependence on semi-conductors from Taiwan, it will move on from this 1 china policy because Taiwan would become irrelevant.

When Philippines complained and protested, Taiwan asserted their right to conduct live-fire drills on Itu Aba Island.
