ManU 1 (og) - Brighton Hove Albion 2 (EPL - Home)

With Eriksen as striker flanked by Rashford and Sancho with Bruno behind, it was Brighton who drew first blood when they scored twice in the 29th and 38th minute, taking the lead in a disastrous first-half for ETH. The midfield of McFred were ineffective either in attack or defensive mode from the marauding Brighton players helmed by our ex-player Danny Welback. Both Rashford and Sancho were not making their mark and Eriksen was playing too deep to be effective as a striker.

With CR7 introduced 2 minutes in the second half, things looked brighter and it was in the 67th minute that we pulled one back during a goalmouth melee when Dalot put their goalie Sanchez under pressure. There were three decisions that many fans could not understand ; when ETH subbed Fred for CR7 instead of Mctominay who was yellow-carded and on par with Fred on performance, introducing Elanga, Garnacho and Malacia late at the 89th minute to expect a change of fortune and allowing Eriksen to usurp Bruno's play-making role. Although it is still early days, much more will be expected of ETH's tactical nous if this first game of the season is anything to go by.

Maguire is a big problem. He lack confidence to go forward to pressure attacker. Keep backing off. He look lost in 1 of the goal. luke shaw come to his position to cover for him, and sure enough, the cross find a free brighton player in luke shaw position and score.

the fred and mctominay, Fernandes  combo is lousy, it dun work for the previous 2 manager, and ten hag still use it today

Yeah, don't know why he's still the Captain, much to the chagrin of many fans and one of the smaller issues that fans have with ETH on having effective and deserving players and till date, still finding who is a better partner for Maguire. With sick-man Varane on the bench, Martinez played well and took one for the team when he was yellow-carded for disrupting one of Brighton's attack and seems to be a much better buy.

As for the McFred combo, he should try Eriksen, VDB or Malacia and leave out Bruno to buck-up. Waiting for De Jong seems to be a lost cause.

This Ten Haag formation also quite funny. McTom was in a striker position waiting for the ball. Eriksen and Fernandez occupied the same places. No pressing from Rashford and Sancho. Maguire is quite a good defender himself but he is terrible at organizing the defence. As captain nobody seems to listen to him.

and why on earth did they buy Lisandro Martinez? He is only 1.75m. No matter how fast he is, how can he fight against the giant strikers like Haaland and Mitrovic

ManU 0 - Brentford 4 (EPL -Away)

It was a 4-3-3 formation with Rashford, CR7 and Sancho backed by Eriksen, Bruno and Fred with Dalot, Martinez, Maguire and Fred at the back. A howler by De Gea allowed Brentford to take the lead in the 9th minute after he got the ball but fumbled it to drift into the net. It was downhill from that moment on, as Brentford scored again in the 17th minute with De Gea's goal kick intercepted in front of his goal.

Another goal off a corner when Martinez was out-jumped emphasized the importance of physicality and height being of importance for any defender and it was 4-0 after Brighton scored from a counter-attack and long ball, with Shaw being unable to outrun his opponent to intercept. A disastrous first-half that ETH has to address at being out-played and outclassed by Brighton's coach.

The second half started with three subs - Varane, Malacia and Mctominay for Shaw, Martinez and Fred and later on with Elanga and VDB for Sancho and Eriksen gave more impetus in attack but even a consolation goal was not forthcoming. We go against Liverpool next but ETH must make some headway and stop the rot with the existing players till he gets replacements. Losing to lower-ranked teams in the second EPL match and the banner displayed by some MU fans 'MU 4 Sale' makes an appropriate point, by the same margin that we lost.

Feel sad for man u.

I think they need major change

Maybe play 3 at the back. Shaw is lousy. Say that for the longest time. Maguire dun give the def confidence at all.

Drop bruno also. I dun know why eth keep dropping fred.

The current man u team cannot play out from the back. All the preseason gone.

With cr7 in front. They cannot play the modern pressing high up also.

Next game against pools.

If 10H can only play this system then it’s time to sack him. All the smaller clubs would have seen how to neutralize Man U and frankly it’s not difficult if you have a fit team that can press.

Poch is not a good replacement as he plays the same way.

Which brings my memories back to Jose. He truly played to the team’s strengths. He invited the opposition to attack because his team was well drilled to defend deep. McTom and Matic were excellent as a shield, while defenders like AWB were aggressive in stopping attacks. When the team broke in attack, Rashford and Martial were fast and confident finishers then

I somehow feel that just replace the overhyped CB can bring back confidence in the squad oredi

To put 3 attackers need to be backed by strong defence to boost their confidence level...once shaken...all tiers collapse...look at all the downed heads after the first conceded goal...attackers want the MF to support attack but their defence too weak to hold the opponents and needed to track back...making them too stretched in 3 departments...of course, de gea needs to share equal responsibility for his lacklustre performance...

Manu number 19 proved to be a reliable replacement of their skipper...they started to attack vigorously in the second half but couldn't finish it off with a goal against 11 sat back Brentford players who defended their 4 goals lead.

Hope they can bounce back strongly after this...

Ya.....

Back then, I was so worried for Pool. ManU improved so much with new manager.  [sweatdrop]

New brooms sweep clean and moreover CR7 wasn't playing.

They were pressing high during pre-season and the few young players that were introduced showed passion in fighting for places. Both compatriots CR7 and Bruno skied their shots not once, but twice which begets the question as to whether they chut-pattern against ETH. Did DG pass the ball to new transfer Eriksen to show him up when there was other alternatives? Bruno had been downhill after they extended his contract.

Although difficult to prove, just exploring conspiracy theory and power-politicking by the senior players as shown during Ole and Rangnick's era when the rot was apparent. If so, can't blame ETH in getting new transfers (especially from Ajax) that would be beholden to him and infuse the promising players for a new start.

Sacking Jose was not an Option, it was him being vocal and repeat his old mistakes, everybody say he won't last 2 seasons in any league.... right or wrong, I won't judge him, I blamed the Reds Hierarchy who was responsible for the sacking.
