Aston Martin launches the DBX707 in Singapore

Singapore - Here at TopGear Singapore, we love the numbers game. In most respects, big numbers are often attributed to great things. Biggest this, most powerful that, or most expensive whatever. The Aston Martin DBX707 is a prime example.

It’s the fastest accelerating SUV available in Singapore. It’s the most powerful petrol-powered SUV in the world. It's got the highest top speed of any SUV (again, in the world). It’s the most power-dense engine fitted to any Aston Martin with a specific output of 177hp/litre, and it's the second most powerful road-going Aston in Singapore after the DBS Superleggera.

Technically, it is the smallest Aston Martin engine fitted to the biggest Aston Martin in the model range. But clearly, displacement doesn’t account for much in the name of big horsepower.

Under the clamshell bonnet is a front-mid mounted AMG sourced 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that puts out a lofty 707 horsepower and 900Nm of torque. For reference, the standard car makes 550hp and 700Nm. So that’s a 157hp/200Nm increase over the non-707 DBX. It makes that power by way of larger ball-bearing turbos with electronic waste gates and a bespoke engine tuneup. As such, the DBX707 does 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds and soldiers on to a top speed of 310km/h.

Those are some big numbers, but the DBX707 also comes with a slew of upgrades to manage that high horsepower and torque figure. It uses a new 9-speed wet clutch transmission to manage the torque, it has a carbon fibre prop shaft an electronic differential in the rear.

It even has a 48V eARC electronic active roll control to mitigate heaving, yawing and pitching motions and an air suspension system with new dampers and recalibrated sprints to improve body control and steering response. Stopping power comes in the form of new carbon ceramic brakes with massive discs that measure 420mm and 360mm in the front and rear.

It’s highly unlikely that you would take this barnstorming SUV off road but if you intend to, you’ll be glad to know that the DBX 707 has a wading depth of 500mm and a ground clearance of 175mm. The air springs can also be raised and lowered up to 45mm and 30mm respectively. Again, it’s highly unlikely you’d do it. And there is a big reason for that.

The power and all the performance upgrades do come at a price. When the Aston Martin DBX 707 arrives on our shores in 2203, it’ll come with a price tag of S$999,000. That’s before you throw COE and options into the mix.

So the question is, who in their right mind would ever need a 2.2 ton, 707 horsepower SUV that does 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds? We won’t kiss and tell, but we know a few people who would. We've included some images of the "standard" DBX below so you'd have a better visual reference of the differences in the DBX707.

The launch of the DBX707 comes at a timely… time. As you’re reading this, the 2022 Singapore Formula 1 Night Race would be in full swing. If you’re a fan of the sport, you can take a gander at these pictures of the AMR22 race car below. But if you like your SUVs with massive amounts of power and massive amounts of torque, you can head on down to the Aston Martin Singapore showroom at 45 Leng Kee Road.
