Getting into an accident is the nightmare of every drivers. Came across this channel that showcase how the accident cars are repaired/restored, got cover frontal and side and rear crashed cars. IU watched a few, process quite legit as the damaged parts were replaced pronto and not simply hammered back to its original shape. Interesting to learn something. But of course most of us would not be comfortable driving a repaired major crashed car no matter how much efforts were put into the restoration works haha.

Difficult to find people with such skills these days. Even for simple panel beating, not many people can do it very well.

By the way the restoration in the video is only cosmetic; structural strength may already be compromised.

Not many will venture to learn this skill.. even our friends from north are moving away from this trade..

I watch alot of youtube on restoration and repair.. some may takes up to 1 year and most time waiting for parts.. some insurance in US will let you keep the accident car and yet pay you the compensation..  with the short lifespan of the car in Singapore not helping too..

Agreed that most are cosmetic.. they even repair the roof.. A pillar etc.. understand in Sg once roof/pillar damage is scrap?

There is a reason why ppl dont want a crashed car that is repaired. Why car insurance company would suggest scrapping it.

I believe you have seen youtube videos on how new cars are assembled in a car assembly plant. There is a jig or fixture that the car maker use to assemble the cars. W/o this jig the alignment will definitely be off. You wont be able to get the wheels aligned and suspension to align. The suspension arms, tires and bushings will find a way to fail early. The handling of the car will be off. Risk crashing a second time? You ask yourself lo.

Did you see the repair guy use a jig?

The structural integrity is also questionable. If you crush a metal beam and then later try to pull it back straight, will it be 100% like it was originally? Where got such thing?

After so many cutting and rewielding, would the body rigidity still be the same as the original one ?

Yes. If the new panels fit and welded well it will be exactly like new. That’s how the factory recommends repairs be carried out.
However most of the time it is not economically viable to repair like this due to the man hours involved. Some also cheat and just pull the panel without replacing. Thus Many also doubt the quality of the repairs, thus usually scrapped for such major accidents.

The videos are more for educational purpose, to hive an idea how repairs are done for such damaged cars if any keen to buy one next time. Maybe this angle is more palatable for ppl here.

I for one am very intrigued by the level of skills involved to make the repaired cars look like new. But that does not I will go ahead to buy one next time haha.

This impress me more

This is more like fixing the used/non-functional parts with new without the crafting skills involved in restoring the accident cars. Unless for those very old cars where the parts need to craft from scratch. That would be more impressive.

Watch it.

For cars, I am always impressed by German.

In addition, classic car restoration requires OG blueprints

Restoration here all done properly, but doing so, each car on average will hit 1-mil euros for the work involved.

Places where cars are cheap and don't have COE, can be resold, change hand many times, such repairs are not necessarily shunned. Some may want the atas-ness of driving conti marques but don't want to shell out so much and not planning to use for long, can opt for these repaired cars.

I saw one video showing how in pakistan they repaired trucks involved in accidents using these methods as well. For commercial vehicles which mainly used to carry goods, no one is too concerned about engineering precision or safety.
