I have a 10.9 kg meatball (current weight haha) one stroller, three bags, probably three backpacks, wife, MIL and me... phew...

Probably need to leave my DSLR behind sadly...

If you use travel stroller, just use bungee cord to strap the stroller to the largest suitcase...

Yes no DSLR... just a small mirrorless camera or mobile phone lor... I gave up long ago already... bad back made it impossible to carry a Alpha 9 + 2 lenses with a full sized flash and 6 body batteries...

You just have to believe this:

Understand lar... heh heh... if money no object, promise to buy one in Japan lor... then sell it off when you're home... just mail the cot home to Singapore or donate to somewhere in Japan...

I think that when I board the train I better carry in my carrier instead?

we are both happy when it’s cool, so we should be ok.. will visit decathlon soon 👍

I think if you're moving base say Kyoto to Osaka, it's better to have the baby in the carrier... then both hands free, one for suitcase, one for folded stroller... if you can loop the stroller over the suitable handles (my stroller has a shoulder strap attached) you can even leave one hand free for handling tickets and such...

But when you're just moving around doing sightseeing without your luggage, leave baby in the stroller... shove the carrier under the stroller... when you need it, you can just take it out to use... I also shove my backpacks under the strollers to reduce weight carried... for those sightseeing days, just use the stroller as much as possible, carry as little as possible - reserve your back and strength for the days you need to move base or transit with luggage...

Just a note about Decathlon... we've been there 3 times over the past 2 months getting stuff... if first time don't have or don't have enough, don't worry... they'll restock... we bought up all the 4-year old base layers at the Joo Koon branch one fine weekday afternoon... we wanted 16 sets for our 2 kids - 8 sets per kid... change every day... and we were short of many sets cos 4-year old is the smallest size for the basic base layer model... the second time, we only managed to get 4 more sets and were missing 6 sets of bottoms... we were a little dismayed but last week, we went back to get something else and we found the shelves fully restocked... so we got our 6 pieces of bottoms... so yeah... I think it's not seasonal stocking pattern for Decathlon... they have everything year round... not like Uniqlo where you can only get winter stuff in season starting around Oct and get heavily discounted winter wear the year around March to April till stocks run out... that's my experience shopping for winter wear thus far... sorry but I'm very cheapo... just go for sale items... so must go multiple times to multiple branches to get what we need... heh heh...

That's why i said buy a good winter jacket.

No need 16 sets of base layer.

1 winter jacket is more than enough.

Base layer to wear next to the skin mah... need to change every day mah... I'm taking the base layer like my normal clothes in this case lor... the winter jacket is for outerwear when outside... once inside a building, don't need the winter jacket already lor... will be super hot lor... still need mid layers and a waterproof winter jacket lor... that's all I'm bringing... 4 mid layers and 1 winter jacket with the base layers... a bit boring but hey, it's really cold isn't it?

That's a lot of clothing to bring especially with 2 young children.

Good winter jacket + T-Shirt for outdoor.

Indoor only need T-shirt if got heater.

You only need a base layer because the outer jacket cannot trap body heat.

I only have 3 layers (jacket + woollen sweater + T-Shirt) outdoor in -20 deg.

Wow! That sounds good... but $500 can pay for my whole family's base layers & some mid layers...

You're paying $21.35 for 2000 Yen... you can easily get the card at the train station... don't need to buy ahead of time...

Well... we're away for 28 days... need more to wash less often... so having more pieces helps... it's only 8 sets per kid... not really a lot... every week we got to do laundry once...

You might want to use that to buy entry tickets or buy tours so you get picked up at your door step?

My friend said they run out of the chips... hopefully it's temporary..

Should be resolved by end of the year... it would be pretty disastrous for the tourism industry if the autumn crowd can't get the cards... at the end, I guess it is not too critical cos can just buy paper tickets lor... just takes more time when everyone is buying paper tickets...

Sounds a bit like the Malaysia Touch & Go cards situation also...
