Carbon82 Moderator September 10 Share September 10 Very lucky for those on board that the plane was able to make an emergency landing at Changi Airport. It must be scary to see engine on fire right in front of them. If the plane is in the mid air across South China sea, even it can continue to fly with 1 engine down, thick smoke is going to engulf the cabin and suffocate the passenger. And I really appreciate that our airport is always well prepared for any type of emergency. 18

Watwheels Supersonic September 10 Share September 10 The article did say smoke started in the toilet. Quote The CA403 flight “encountered smoke” in its forward cargo hold and lavatory on its way to Changi Airport, according to a Facebook post by the airport. https://www.asiaone.com/singapore/i-thought-my-life-was-going-be-over-air-china-plane-lands-safely-changi-airport-after
Macrosszero Turbocharged September 10 Share September 10 Left side engine on fire yet evacuate on left side - I can’t see the good sense in that. I recall once a passenger was run over in a sea of fire suppression foam in an Asiana crash

Macrosszero Turbocharged September 10 Share September 10 @inlinesix sure, but if the left turbine is a blowtorch you might wanna tell your passengers not to exit on the left side to jump into the barbecue yeah?

I don’t think anyone is allowed to disembark before the fire is put off. All slides are used to ensure that all passengers are evac within 2 minutes (I think).

I don't think the protocol will wait for fire to put out before evacuation . What if the plane burst into flame due to delay in evacuation.
