Hear how the final hour of bidding for COEs can typically go, from a ex-motor trade insider.

Synopsis: The Straits Times offers expert insights to Singapore's mobility trends and the vehicle quota system, which includes the Certificate of Entitlement (COE).

There are two tender exercises for these COEs every month. It typically opens for three days, from noon on a Monday and to 4pm on Wednesday. But the bidding action only comes alive in the final hour or so, as more bids start to appear and the premiums climb. 

To help us understand what goes on behind the scenes in that last 60 minutes, ST’s senior transport correspondent Lee Nian Tjoe speaks with Mr Say Kwee Neng, who has been in the motor trade for more than 20 years.

Can I sell you my MTB? Crankbrothers  Carbon fiber wheel, Easton carbon handle bar and seat post etc, rock shox SID team, fullset XTR cost me $8000+ in 2006 still in good condition!

only problem the bicycle industry change MTB wheel to 27.5 and 29 thus hard to find tubeless tyre at size 26 anymore 😂

The best way is all people don't buy cars for a few months, but the real thing is that if you don't buy, others will buy. So how leh?? I maintain my words not to buy for now and in the next one to 2 years at least.

Boh pian, he want to contribute to the economy. Haha. in 2008, I was offered guaranteed COE for $5.5k but I went to bid and got $869. 

Of cos I don't think COE will come down again like this. But paying for a new car that is $130k COE makes no sense to me especially my 6 YO ride is 36k mileage.

Maybe. there will be a lot of options and I have 4 years to look into it. I got no hurry to do anything as of now.

BTW, I always pocketed some things sometimes when economy is down. Cos I always believe that when economy is down. The opportunity is there when you have some cash. I have encounter 1998, 2008 and I am still waiting. Now keep money is good. Haha
