Other AD are telling me korea car no resale value.. Why am I interested in the Santa Fe? Because it's a car that meets my needs, wants and budget. Which is a non-premium 7-seat SUV that is high on feature per price. It makes me chuckle when Singaporeans give car advice, since the average Singaporean doesn't know much about cars. They automatically assume that continental car = better. Don't get me wrong, BMW/Merc/Audi's make amazing cars, but any person with good car knowledge knows that the mass market BMW's brought to Singapore are poorly equipped, underpowered and priced exorbitantly. Because in Singapore, you're paying for the BMW/Merc/Audi badge more than the car and features. Because the average Singsporean aspires to own a prestige car. Even though it might be a lowly X1 or 1-seried with a vastly underpowered engine. Not to mention running costs and reliability are typically worse for continental cars, because they are "premium". For the X3, if you do a feature, performance, fuel economy etc, you'll see the Santa Fe is objectively a better car on paper, especially for the price. If we're talking about resale value, the G01 X3 is due for a replacement by the G45 X3 this year. Nothing impacts resale value more than replacement by a new model. So if I were to "upgrade" to an X3 (which is only a 5 seater), then a year later my resale value is going to drop massively as the new model is introduced. The Vellfire and Alphard is a good car. But I don't want an MPV. It's also $400k for the latest model, which is way over my budget. Better brands? The fact is that objectively Koreans and Chinese cars are some of the best cars in the automotive world at the moment. Anyone that thinks otherwise are likely just brand snobs or simply don't know what they're talking about. Edited June 1, 2024 by GTO-1

Other AD are telling me korea car no resale value.. Fortunately, my reservation is in the top 20, and I have the first Terracotta Orange allocation due in June/July. Maybe I'll buy and resell for higher if demand is so high, just like they do with the Cybertruck 🤪. Too bad, I was banking in the fact that most Singaporeans would be hard pressed ti spend $280k on a Hyundai, so I could have a unique car. Hopefully most people don't go through with their transaction.😜 Edited June 1, 2024 by GTO-1 1

Other AD are telling me korea car no resale value.. Competitors will tend to shoot down others to gain business for themselves anyway. X3 don't think will be 10-20k more and it's not even a fair comparison given that it's 5 seater to 7 seater. Not to mention the crazy expensive maintenance cost you'll be looking at. As for Alphard, you'll be looking at above 100k diff. Most people are just brand junkie, especially towards conti cars. I think you can expand your search around the price point, go test drive more, compare the perks and benefits and decide what's best for you. Don't forget to calculate the total running cost too.

Many failed to recognize that korean and chinese cars are improving by leaps and bounds. Chinese cars especially in the EV space. It's gonna be a major powerhouse in the industry very soon. thebestbees 2nd Gear June 1, 2024 Author Share June 1, 2024 @Kiroskyz they already are a disruption to the automotive industry. Kia/hyundai are the top 3 automakers in the world. Too many “ boomers” still think that Kia/hyundai or even the Chinese are “ unreliable “ or not so good as the BBA. But to me, the “ real “ BBA are minimally the C class, 3 series etc.. not those X1 la or CLA.. Anyways to stay on topic, with 260k I would choose the Santa Fe over topping up extra for X3 😁

Maybe it’s the big cc engines in the US.
Kiroskyz 1st Gear June 2, 2024 Share June 2, 2024 @Mkl22you're right on the failures, even for the 2024 SF. But from what I've read (I'm in USA and Canada hyundai fb groups), the failures are in the bigger gas/petrol engines and also the transmission for those. I've yet to see any failures in the 1.6t hybrid ones. I asked the hyundai SA and she mentioned that they're aware of those and is glad singapore brought in the hybrid ones. And with the excellent warranty coverage that they're offering, I think quite little to worry about. Then again, these failures happen alot for conti cars as well compared to toyota/honda.

Other AD are telling me korea car no resale value.. i learnt a new quote from my friend yesterday.. and i'll paraphrase it here the Santa Fe at 260k is a "fk u" car. meaning to say, fk what you think, fk what you say. limpeh have 260k to spend on a car (full cash or not doesn't matter) and i choose the high spec one that i like instead of pandering to social norms of owning a branded conti with low specs and power. 3

SF is nicely spec. Just like my dad always drive jap cars toyota and honda only, now family car is 1.6 KIA NIRO Hybrid SX top spec, definitely more well equipped from active+passive safety features, comfort package like ventilated & heated powered fronts seats, auto tited windows when in reverse and those new technology inside than a entry conti car. Nice! Makes me think of a Kia Stinger. Whenever I saw a Kia Stinger. I would think: "there's a person that knows their cars". Especially if it was the 3.3L version.

Alfc 5th Gear June 4, 2024 Share June 4, 2024 @iceraider Such mindset actually has got nothing to do with the physical item itself. It has always been the ego at work which is why there will always be badge whores. Same as certain brand being used for taxis is regarded as "sia suay" but can be immediately twisted as a "strong testatment of its reliability" when another popular brand is used.

They were quick to increase it when it went up in the previous bidding.
Infernolord 1st Gear June 5, 2024 Share June 5, 2024 i was hoping to drag longer.. if you look at our past coe.. COE are on the downward trend 2H onwards... Hopefully they will adjust lower.. haha ↡ Advertisement
