Think all will belt up for flights now.

Just don't understand for those like to unbelt, with the seat belt on. Basically don't feel it at all. Why want to remove the moment seat belt sign is off.

Lossen it won't even notice the belt buckled.

Most of the times it is for this long overnight haul. Me family the guilty one. Must buckle up from today onwards.

I remember my flight to Brisbane, red-eye also, a girl lie down across the 3 seats in the middle as it was quite an empty flight.

Another trip to US, got a Vietnamese auntie lie down on the aisle in the middle of the night beside me. The ang moh cabin crew really screw her upside down. Lol. Crazy people.

Condolences and comfort to all of them. Horrible.

worst drop was on united from SGP to LA. Tray suddenly flew up about half a metre during meal service. Lots of yelling but we were ok. Yes, belted. Old habit , die hard.

Corrected report on the drop......

The earlier report of 31000ft drop was wrong... It's 6k ft drop

"Flight tracking data had indicated that the plane experienced a 6,000-foot drop from 37,000 feet within four minutes."

i just came back from perth earlier on  SQ 214 and saw this news while mid flight using wifi.😨

Was worried when heading to and from toilet, once in my seat faster fasten the seatbelt.

Normally always belted in unless heading to the loo, even in the loo will try and hold the handle cos scared of sudden turbulence.

Any pilots can comment, how far ahead can the doppler radar detect air turbulence or microburst? In this case, was it just not enough time to warn the passengers?

In the toilet, usually less space for you to be flung around :D

For a cross continental flight that is more than 10 hrs will tends to walk around and not return to seat immediately.

Not related to the air turbulence incident but associated with changi airport.  20 taken to hospital. No joke. Mass casualties.

Reply my own answer.

Singapore Airlines did not say what type of turbulence was involved, but aviation experts suspect it to be clear-air turbulence, considered to be the most dangerous type of turbulence.

Clear-air turbulence (CAT) is virtually undetectable with current technology, meaning it can hit without warning - making it all the more important for passengers on a plane to wear seatbelts whenever seated, safety experts said.

Chances of such turbulence in a plane is still lower than car accidents. But yet hero’s in the back seat don’t belt up.
