New 5-storey Sengkang West bus depot will have 240 EV chargers & staff quarters with 39 apartments.

I only hope the depot is designed to cope with fire from the EV batteries.

First let's see how the grid copes with 240 EV chargers drawing high current at the same time :D

The concerns is putting out fire needs how many hours😃

Depends on how many fire blankets they have, how big they are and whether they have enough manpower to cover 240 buses if all of them combust while charging :D

This is a huge huge bomb dropped on SCDF :D

If the grid cannot support, it won't be built there lah.   So many parties need to sign off before it is built.

It is up to 360kw x 240 bays. Less than 1%of what Changi airport is using if my maths is correct.

The depot will also be fitted with 240 EV chargers that can each fully charge single-deck buses in less than one-and-a-half hours.

Providing up to 360kW of power, each charger is "equipped with smart charging functions to optimise charging speed and efficiency with real-time monitoring, control and diagnostic capabilities," added LTA.

There will always be excess capacity within the grid for EV charging.

May not need to generate more electricity

Yes and these buses will be charged at night.

The question to ask is if every car parks in Singapore needs 50 chargers (even AC ones), can the grid cope?  I suspect SP will need to spend some money but it should be progressive.

Unlikely to be 50.  More like 10 charger with 20 charging slots.

Transmission infra needs to be upgraded to accommodate that.

You are right, may not need so many until 80-90% adoption rate.

I am just assuming an estate of 500-600 units with 300 EV (maybe after 2030) and every EV is charged once a week, you will need 43 AC charges (300/7).

My base case for EV to work in Singapore is most people will charge overnight at home or at work.

Your assumption is based on ICE car users.

For EV, charge as and when it is available.  That's the convenience of EV.

Not necessarily have to do overnight.

Then you may need more chargers at residential car parks, not less.
