SINGAPORE - The Al-Istiqamah Mosque in Serangoon North was evacuated on Sept 24 after a suspicious parcel was delivered to its premises.

The police said they were alerted to the incident at 2 Serangoon North Avenue 2 at about 5.20pm.

The mosque was evacuated as a precautionary measure, they added.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for assistance at about 5.45pm and its hazardous materials (hazmat) specialists are investigating.

No hazardous substances were found after they conducted checks using detectors, it said in a later update.

“SCDF assessed a person for breathlessness,” it said, adding that the person was taken to Sengkang General Hospital.

The police has advised the public to avoid areas near the mosque.

The area has also been cordoned off.

In a Facebook post at about 9pm, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) said it is aware that the mosque received a suspicious parcel.

It added that it is working closely with the authorities on the matter.

The Al-Istiqamah Mosque was completed in May 1999 and can accommodate up to 3,300 people, according to the Muis website.

Update: Two employees of the mosque said they had received a letter. After opening and smelling it, they felt dizzy and short of breath.

SCDF assessed a person for breathlessness,” it said, adding that the person was taken to Sengkang General Hospital.

A woman in her 40s, believed to be another employee, was carried out of the mosque into an ambulance and was seen using an oxygen mask.

The perpetrator must be dug out and meted with 24 strokes of cane. Unless from outside SG borders....

Must be trying to stir racial/religious tension.....

Many possibilities from domestic to external actors to stir up social issues to disrupt SG social fabric... Causing social, racial and religious tension....

Hope to catch the stirrer/s soon and mete out appropriate punishment.

Link to those scam orders?

Man who allegedly sent pork to mosque is Eunoia JC staff, religious organisations condemn incident

Eunoia JC confirms its operations support staff was charged over incident where pork was sent to mosque
61-year-old Bill Tan Keng Hwee, the Singaporean charged over pork sent to a mosque, is a staff member at Eunoia Junior College.

In response to queries from MS News, a spokesperson from Eunoia JC confirmed that he is an operations support staff at the school.

Man who allegedly sent pork to mosque was listed on Eunoia JC website
Tan’s name was previously listed on Eunoia JC’s website as one of its executive and admin staff.

However, his name has since been taken down, though it can still be found on an archived version of the page.

The Eunoia JC spokesman said in the short statement that police investigations are ongoing.

Eunoia JC staff allegedly sent pork in envelope to mosque
Tan was charged on Saturday (27 Sept) with deliberately intending to harm racial feelings.

According to court documents, he allegedly mailed an envelope to Al-Istiqamah Mosque in Serangoon North.

It contained a piece of pork and a note that read “halal BaBi chop”.

It resulted in the mosque being evacuated and one mosque staff being sent to the hospital for breathlessness.

If found guilty, he faces up to three years in prison and/or a fine.

There are many disturbed people in Singapore.

They don't like certain things/people, and sometimes they feel like they have to create trouble to make their point.

Similar to those who kena detained under ISD.
