Whether you plan to drive from Paris to Amsterdam, make a trip from LA to San Francisco, or  travel from Stockholm to Oslo, the new, all-electric Volvo EX60 SUV has your back.

With the ability to go up to a best-in-class 810 kilometres on a single charge* in an all-wheel drive configuration, beating even its most recently revealed competitors, the EX60 doesn’t just go further than any electric car that Volvo Cars has ever created.

It turns range anxiety into range comfort, demonstrating that going electric is no longer a compromise. Volvo Cars engineers have optimised the car’s range for real-life driving and what customers experience in their daily drive.

“The EX60 is designed to be a gamechanger,” says Anders Bell, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo Cars. “With our new electric vehicle architecture, we directly address the main worries that customers have when considering a switch to a fully electric car. The result is class-leading range and fast charging speeds, marking the end of range anxiety.”

The EX60 does not only boast the longest range of any fully electric Volvo, it also charges faster than any electric Volvo before in all weather conditions. Instead of a full lunch break, a quick coffee stop is now enough to recharge the battery and hit the road again.

Practically speaking, this means the EX60 can add up to 340km of range in just ten minutes when using a 400kW fast charger, making a charging stop nearly as fast as a fuel stop. And all EX60 customers can get a 10-year warranty on the battery.

The key to the class-leading range is SPA3, Volvo Cars’ most advanced electric car architecture to date, which underpins the EX60. It unlocks maximum efficiency in key systems inside the car and allows the company to achieve an electric range that matches cars powered by petrol engines.

Integrating the battery directly into the structure of the car with cell-to-body technology and developing e-motors in-house makes the EX60 more energy efficient and cuts excessive weight. The new cell design of the EX60’s battery carefully balances energy density and power delivery, further increasing driving range.

The EX60 is the first Volvo car built with the help of mega casting, whereby hundreds of smaller parts are replaced with a single, high-precision casting in the production process. This reduces weight, which again improves range and lets you go further.

The fast charging speeds are made possible by Volvo Cars’ new 800-volt electrical system and in-house developed software, which together move energy into the battery more efficiently. The use of lighter materials and less heat generation also support faster charging times, meaning the EX60 can add hundreds of kilometres of range in just a few minutes.

Clever algorithms developed by Volvo Cars’ portfolio company Breathe Battery Technologies have also been incorporated in the EX60. These allow the car to constantly adjust how the battery takes in power, keeping it in its ideal operating zone at all times and in all weather conditions.

Finally, because this is an electric car with less moving parts, it does not have to undergo conventional service as often. In short, the EX60 is a no-compromises electric car, designed to provide the freedom to move in a new, all-electric era. The Volvo EX60 will be revealed on 21 January 2026.

Volvo Cars introduces world first multi-adaptive safety belt in the upcoming Volvo EX60

Today, Volvo Cars unveils a major safety improvement to the safety belt. The new multi-adaptive safety belt is a world-first technology aimed to further enhance safety for everyone in real-world traffic situations.

Debuting in the upcoming fully electric Volvo EX60 in 2026, the new safety belt is designed to better protect people by adapting to traffic variations and the person wearing it, thanks to real-time data from the car’s advanced sensors.

The new multi-adaptive safety belt can use data input from interior and exterior sensors to customise protection, adapting the setting based on the situation and individual’s profiles, such as their height, weight, body shape and seating position. For example, a larger occupant in a serious crash will receive a higher belt load setting to help reduce the risk of head injury. While a smaller occupant in a milder crash will receive a lower belt load setting to reduce the risk of rib fractures.

This is achieved by significantly increasing the number of so-called load-limiting profile variations, which manage the force applied to the occupants in the event of an accident. And thanks to over-the-air software updates, it gets better over time.

“The world first multi-adaptive safety belt is another milestone for automotive safety and a great example of how we leverage real-time data with the ambition to help save millions of more lives,” says Åsa Haglund, head of Volvo Cars Safety Centre. “This marks a major upgrade to the modern three-point safety belt, a Volvo invention introduced in 1959, estimated to have saved over a million lives.”

Thanks to over five decades of safety research and a database of over 80,000 occupants involved in real-life accidents, Volvo Cars has built unique safety knowledge capturing the complexity of the real world. It sets the foundation for the company’s safety innovations over the years and the pioneering Volvo Cars Safety Standard, which exceeds official testing requirements.

Building on Volvo Cars’ long history of creating cars with the ambition to be equally safe for everyone based on real-world data, the company has been exploring new technologies to better protect different people in various crash scenarios.

Modern safety belts use load limiters to control how much force the safety belt applies on the human body during a crash. This new safety belt expands the load-limiting profiles from three to eleven and increases the possible number of settings, enabling it to optimise performance for each situation and individual.

Unlike traditional systems, the new multi-adaptive safety belt can utilise data from different sensors, including exterior, interior and crash sensors. In less than a blink of an eye, the car’s system analyses the unique characteristics of a crash – such as direction, speed, and passenger posture – and shares that information with the safety belt. Based on this data, the system selects the most appropriate setting.

The capabilities of the new multi-adaptive safety belt are designed to continuously improve via over-the-air software updates. As Volvo Cars gathers more data and insights, the car can improve its understanding of the occupants, new scenarios and response strategies.

The new safety belt is part of Volvo Cars’ broader safety ecosystem, working seamlessly with airbags, occupant detection and driver assistance systems. This cooperation provides harmonised protection features, enhances effectiveness and minimises the risk of subsequent injuries.

The belt has been tested and further developed at the Volvo Cars Safety Centre crash lab, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. In the industry-leading crash lab, Volvo Cars’ safety engineers can recreate almost any traffic accident and perform tests that exceed regulatory requirements for real-world safety. This multifunctional facility has been essential for Volvo Cars to maintain its position as a leader in automotive safety.

I don't think the EX60 is a 7 seater. It should still be a 2-row 5 seater, think of it like the electric version of the XC60.

I was skeptical looking at the complicated 'horology' in the graphic. Then I came to this part of the article and Darth Volvo would find my lack of faith disturbing.

I am not entirely sure if it will be a 7 seater either. However, several websites has been speculating that it has a 3rd row of seat judging by this photo of the boot, as released by Volvo.

From this silhouette shot, the greenhouse of the new EX60 seems larger and a little more upright than the current XC60, so squeezing in a 3rd row may be plausible.

Given that the new GLB EV has already breeches the 4.7m barrier, I am guessing the EX60 will have a length closer to 4.8m, keeping it in the same league as the new iX3, GLC EV, and its own XC70.

If its a 5+2 configuration, then it will be quite interesting!

Doesn't look like a 5+2 seater SUV from these teaser shots. The bonnet is a little Geely-ish (eMAS7 / Galaxy E5) while its rear is like an upsize of the compact EX30, underwhelming to say the least...

The EX90 3rd row already quite cramp, can’t imagine this being a 7 seater

So far, unless is using MPV shape, 4.8m not quite enough to have comfy 3rd row if using 'classic' SUV shape.
