What do you guys think?

Is it more worth it to get the Alfa Romeo 147 1.6l Manual($103k) or the 2.0l Selespeed($115k)

The 2.0l comes with a really good Bose sound system(factory fitted, subwoofer integrated into boot!) plus Vehicle Dynamic Control, Leather Seats, and of course the more powerful engine and Selespeed.

Sigh... dunno whether I should put out the extra money or not.

"dunno whether I should put out the extra money or not."

Hi! there, Maniax,

If you don't need the extra power, get the 1.6L. Leather seats are not recommended, if you drive spiritedly, as you'll slip & slide around.

The 1.6 handles better, with it's wider track. Go for a test drive again, before you decide.

for me really no point getting the 2.0l selespeed...might as well get tbhe 156 instead. If want to buy 147 get the mannual (1.6) power enuff for Sg roads oredi. Did u know that the 1.6 comes with sunroof and the 2.0l doesn't?

The less powerful car will definitely handle much better than the more powerful car isn't it? Thats if both are using the same setup with different engine. Like I said in 1 post that I support modification in such areas and to get the best. Though some belief it is a waste of money. Guess their life is cheap.

Anyway, I totally agree with you on those darn leather seats. Wonder why people are so into leather seats? Seems like a trend of BS than practicality. Moreover, the leather seat ain't fun to sit on after parking in the sun. [laugh]

Depends whether you want high road tax or not? I think you can opt for those stuff to be fitted in the 1.6L with additional pricing right?

If you want power and dun mind a 2.0L road tax and also dun mind a jap car. The ideal car now is the Subaru WRX 220bhp at about $108k with COE. Like our Alfa enthusiast, Paul, claims that the alfa can take on most cars except those 4WD turbo.

1.6 manual, if you like driving. Personally the Selespeed is not up to scratch yet when you're charging hard, because gear changes still take too long, and tend to be jerky. Also, a smaller engine means the car is less nose-heavy, and therefore would handle better, like the others have mentioned. What are your views after driving them?

I dunno what its called. I like those soft soft spongy type like you find in sparco bucket seats. hur hur..... Not advisable for smokers. Burns ultra fast with a touch of your ciggie. As for leather, I once threw a ciggie out of the window [lipsrsealed] , and it flew back into my back seat of my bimmer. Guess what? I found out a few weeks later. The ciggie burn finish, until filter there, and my seats just dust off ashes okay liao. [laugh] But i hated those leather seats. I can slide from driver side to seat on hand brake when conering. [furious] Imagine getting ass screwed by the handbrake! [laugh]

Not really. Half my usual cornering with my previous car. Even so, I find bimmers have very good handling. Feel safer whacking a bimmer that a merc.

Hi if you like sound system and enjoy the more powerful engine, you should go for the 2.0l one, provide you are fine with the maintainance cost.

Hi,

The Selespeed changes faster at higher RPM, than at lower. The logic is if you are driving easy, cruising.... meaning that you are not in a hurry, then the Selespeed takes a tat longer to change up, but if you revv hard, it changes up much faster.

just my 2 cents worth. [;)]

That's the theory at least, but in practice it didn't happen. In fact the SE kept telling me to take it easy, release the throttle and apply again when the change is done. Darn it, I ended up changing slower than if it were a manual.

Or maybe I'm just not "getting" it...
