Coyote Neutral Newbie January 24, 2004 Share January 24, 2004 First and foremost, like to thank Assassin and Saaber for welcoming me. Being newbies, I appreciate your approach and invitation for the meetup session. After browsing the forum for the past 2 days, my knowledge on cars have widen; thanks to MCF. Although I learn a bit at delphiforum, however, I must say that the information available at MCF is fantastic. Keep up the good work guys. I am driving Spectra 4-door since Apr 03. So far, I have installed the following: a. Huper Optik b. Ground wire c. Strut Bar d. Body Kit The FC of my car is quite good, about 11++ but none compare to other Japanese cars. However, the horsepower is lacking. I wonder any members care to advise me on what other ways can I improve the car performance. I have in mind to do the following items in next few months: a. Install K&N Filter (originally intent to install open pod CAI) b. Twin SURBO c. Low Profile tyres (presently 185/65R14) - looking at YokoAVSdB However, I welcome any suggestions as I am new into this world of motoring as previously knowledge gain through friends. Onve again Kudos to MCF. ↡ Advertisement
Super7 Turbocharged January 24, 2004 Share January 24, 2004 my fren has used surbo in his Peugeot 406 and he advised me that regular 'blasts' (eg 'shooting off' from the green light) has causes premature wearing out of his engine mounts...... Assassin Clutched January 24, 2004 Share January 24, 2004 Hi Coyote3998, Youre welcome. For installing a filter, better to stick with the drop in type [eg. K&N] rather than the open pod which will cause you to lose some low end torque. For lower profile tyres, what is the current size of your tyres ? Try not to have too much of a variance after a change in tyre size which will affect your speedo reading. There is a tyre calculator link in the RESOURCES folder which lets you key in your original tyre size, then the next tyre size you want to change to, and it will show you how much % difference it will affect your speedo reaadings. Coyote Neutral Newbie January 25, 2004 Author Share January 25, 2004 Guys, Thanks for the info. I will definitely install the K&N Filter, in fact, going down after breakfast today. As for surbo, I also have 2nd thought about it. I try the filter 1st and see the diff. My tyre size is ToyoA300 18565R14 and I intent to change to ToyoAVSdb 19560R15. I have visited the resource folder and did the calculation, it shows that I have better mileage. So not so sure will that be true? Any other good tyres which I should consider? Anyone can recommend me good place to get the rim cos not sure which rim is good. Furthermore, not sure on what type of rims suitable as I do not know how to look around, i.e. alloy, steel, etc, and what about the weight? I am looking at 15" rim from 14" which I am using now. I saw some responses mentioning Yap Brothers but not sure where and who to contact. Wonder they have the tyres and good rims. Any feedback from members welcome. Thanks and Cheers

Flaser Neutral Newbie January 26, 2004 Share January 26, 2004 My tyre size is ToyoA300 18565R14 and I intent to change to ToyoAVSdb 19560R15. I have visited the resource folder and did the calculation, it shows that I have better mileage. So not so sure will that be true? Any other good tyres which I should consider? Hi, If your stock tyres are 185/65 R14, you should be looking at 195/55 R15 (or 215/45 R16 ) for a closer match. I believe the Yoko AVS DB are quite expensive. I'm currently using the Firenza ST-03, house brand of Stamford tyres, cos they came in a package with the rims from Yap Bros. I've got 15,000km on the tyres and they're quite alright so far in terms of cost ($60+ per tyre), noise and dry/wet handling. For more info, http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...t=283991#283991 My other choices then were Potenza GIII, Falken ST115, Kumho 712.

Coyote Neutral Newbie February 3, 2004 Author Share February 3, 2004 Have you experience with twin surbo? Care to give some feedback. I have installed the K&N filter but not much diff. A mechanic suggest a flow thru cat converter to have additional HP. But still not sure whether it is good. ↡ Advertisement
