How is servicing costs etc for Subaru?

Hi,

 

Just test drove the new Subaru Legacy. Was very very very very impressed. Handling was really good. Very tempted to buy the car.

 

Just wondering, how is the servicing at Motorimage. Is it expansive? Do they do a good job? Is it expansive?

 

Also the warranty only for 60k. So, after warranty service is expansive?

 

Do they have parts problems? and are parts expansive, compared to say Nissan?

 

Lastly are there outside workshops that sepecialise in Subaru. Do you guys rely on Agent to service after warranty or outside.

Can't help with all the question, Can only answer a few..

 

Do they have parts problems? and are parts expansive, compared to say Nissan?

 

Subaru parts are a bit more pricely compared to Nissan.

 

Lastly are there outside workshops that sepecialise in Subaru. Do you guys rely on Agent to service after warranty or outside

 

It would be cheaper to service outside once the waranty expired.

I have just got 4th service. so far not issue with MI services.

Didn't have problem with them for my case.

 

However there were other drivers who had bad experiences with MI's service.

 

There are pro-subaru workshops around.

 

I still go to Motorimage for regular service, still within the warranty . [thumbsup]

 

 

btw, its good that the Legacy impressed u.

What other similar category cars have u tested? and how was it?

I also test drove the legacy, the 2l 'normal' one hahaha...

I agreed with u tt's it really great! Shattered my prev perceptions of subaru.

Can really consider this car.

Dear all,

 

I just purchase a 3.5 year subrau legacy 2.0i. I need advice on how best to service this post warranty car. Should I send it back to Motor Image for my 60,000km maintenance or specialised subaru workshops like Tan Lim Motor or BMS Motorsports? Which is cheaper? Can specialized subaru workshops do a good job, just like Motor Image?

 

Please advise.

if u read the subaru forum, IMO 90% of forumers do not return back to MI after the 3rd free servicing. reason be it service level or because many r modded & hav own workshop & cost of coz.

 

basically its d same as any other cars but only require more frequent oil change if its turbo(every5k recommd). read up at http://www.subaruclubsg.com/forum/ in the legacy section. you will find many insightful info!

 

im drivin a scooby & don't even service in pro-subaru workshops :)

my fren go jay bee to do the servicing,only $192 rm.using idemitsu syn.oil.now market so down can save you save lar,as long your car can move ok liao.hehe [gossip] but so far my fren is happy with the service.

Plenty of pro-Subaru workshops for servicing & modding:

BMS (AMK Autopoint)

BKS (AMK Autopoint)

BKS (Northpoint)

TX Motorsports (Sungei Kadut)

Edge (Sin Min)

 

Of course there are other workshops which serves & mod alot of Subarus (plus other makes as well):

Lim Tan (Sin Min)

Espace (Ubi)

CS (Sin Min)

DynoTechnica (Paya Ubi)

McWell (Paya Ubi)

I have a friend driving the legacy.

 

According to him, parts are more ex than other jap cars. The FC for legacy is also not very good (8~9km/L). However, the handling is very good esp the cornering ( maybe due to AWD). We drove to Genting, very enjoyable drive, tried high speed at 170km/H [lipsrsealed] also no prob.

 

P.S. Previously he was driving the impreza, the parts like gear box and suspension wear out faster than other jap cars, dunno why. [:/]

Hello Ping911...you should ask MR. G Tan of MI regarding Subaru pricing [blush][shocked] . Parts slighty on the high side. [dizzy] Warranty void if you changes out wheel RIMs or any parts that were not changed or done by MI. This is SUCKS!! [furious][knife][shakehead]

I'm driving JDM WRX so far so good. Needs to mod some parts to get better performances. [nod][flowerface][gossip]

Servicing can takes whole day! [thumbsdown][hur][furious][knife]

Normally I drop off car at 8.00 am and by luck can have the car back after lunch [smash][bounce1][bounce2]

As mentioned by fellow mcf's, there are good workshops outside can do a better job than MI and even cheaper!!! [sly][scholar][laugh]

Subaru good car but no good resale value!!! [mad][dead][:|][:(]

I did test drove the 2.5 Legacy very good [thumbsup][flowerface] but car price not good to me so I go for WRX. [laugh][nod][rolleyes]

Go for it if your heart tells you so... [gossip]

I can said it's a very reliable car..until now 2.5 yrs, I have no problem with my legacy 2.0R. The handling is good especially on highspeed, I managed to hit 205km/hr on NSHW as the power of the car seems like still willing to keep on, still can heard the song quite clearly from my Macintosh radio. Since my is an non-turbo car, the picked in the begining will not be as good as turbo charged LGT. Normally with the test drive on Legacy 2.0R or LGT, u will change your opinion on Subaru car.

Why go back to MI to service???

 

Do it at a pro Subaru workshop and you'll save on parts, labour and can get to watch what is done to your car (so you can learn as well).

 

Costs wise, you'll save more than 50% when done outside. When doing servicing at pro Subaru w/s, you can also bring your own oils, filters, etc.... then they charge you labour only. Then you'll save even more.....

 

For an example :

 

Engine oil : $60 which I bought during a sale. (can even use C@rlube at $29.90 which I did at one time)

 

Engine oil filter : $6.50 which I bought outside

 

ATF : $25 for 4 ltr. sufficient for a drain & fill

 

Gear Oil : 3 quarts costs about $60 for redline. For your front & rear diff

 

Spark plugs: $60 which you can buy outside.

 

Air filter : using washable type. so just ask to either blow clean or change to spare while current one is being washed & dried.

 

Labour : This depends on your relationship with the w/s. The more often they see your face, the cheaper it gets. [laugh]

 

But in general :

 

Change engine oil $20

Change ATF : $20

Rotate tyres : free

Change Front & Rear Diff oil : $30

Change plugs : $60 - $80

Change fuel filter : $20

Change brake fluid : $20

Change steering fluid : $10 or free if doing some other items above.

Change air filter : free

 

But if you do more items at one go, then it may be cheaper since they lump them together.

 

Normally if you do major servicing (not repairs), the labour does not work out to more than $140. (Exclusion is changing of timing belt, fan belts, water pump, bearings, tensioner which are inside a package)

I would still go for the Subaru....I think the extra a little bit is worth while....easily makes it up with better handling.

 

But if resale value is a concern (not if you consider to keep car for 5 yrs...cos by then all paper value only)....Subaru resales not one of the better ones. But still better than Mitsubishi....
