Hyundai Matrix :Reliability ??

Used to own a 1.6 many years ago. The cabin design nice. Lots of compartments. Aircraft tables for rear seats. Fuel consumption was a killer! With prices of petrol so high these days, recommend a less thirsty car.

1.8 Matrix Revo consumption a bit better. Of course road tax a mite higher.

Expect pick-up to be a little slow. This is a heavy car, thus high consumption.

I've driving my Matrix for 3 yrs. So far so good no major problem. The only thing that i change was the internal side board clipper that gives way to wear & tear.

Hi,

Due to budget constrain, high COE etc.

Thinking to get a 05/06 matrix for family!

Any advise 1.6 or 1.8... Or OPC....

May share your view on fuel consumption and any spare part issue!!

Many thanks

in term of power/weight ratio..is better to go with the 1.8 model....I drove one before...1.6 abit struggle to move of the line..

Driving 1.6 M for 8 years 10 months, very good car in terms of reliability. Very cheap to maintain. Normal maintenance cost $128 to $208 every 6 month.

Fuel for 1.6M is 12-13L/Km

I drove my Matrix Revo for 9 years at 120,000km.

Have replaced major parts due to wear & tear and are unavoidable.

1) Aircon Compressor

2) Front Dampers

3) Rear Dampers

4) Recon Radiator

5) CV Joint

6) Batteries x 4 (I think)

Great car with excellent stability when driving up North.

Didn't see matrix on the road nowadays. Thinking most matrix should be scrapped by now.

I suppose Komoco as well as the local Hyundai auto parts distributor will still have stock of various spare parts. I am not sure how readily available used spare parts are at local scrapyards, but they would be an alternative source to consider. The Matrix seems to be a popular model in Malaysia (my Matrix was exported to the country for one), so the neighbouring country can be a regional source of spare parts. The search for spare parts can be extended to eBay as well - elsewhere, the Matrix is known as the Lavita.

Generally OK, parts should be easy.  (across causeway lots too!)

But there are many cars at this price range that are better.....

my Matrix will scrap next month.....
