Swift comeback

SUZUKI has revived the popular Swift nameplate. The Japanese carmaker, part-owned by General Motors, will unveil the all-new Swift (above) at the Paris Motor Show two weeks from now.

Based on the S2 concept car, it is about the length of the current Ignis

subcompact, but broader. Sporting a modern design, and equipped with a 1.5-litre engine with variable valve-timing, the Swift is expected to debut at the Singapore Motor Show in November.

Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual or four-speed auto. A sedan form, as well as a powerful GTi, are expected in the future. The Swift was a bestseller here in the early 1990s.
