Dualie Clutched December 1, 2004 Share December 1, 2004 Notice that on higher spec car, the manufacturer almost always use rear disc brake wherelse the lower end model will be using drum brakes... Is disc setup superior than drum setup? What are the advantages/dis-advantages? ↡ Advertisement
Potheader Clutched December 1, 2004 Share December 1, 2004 Disk brakes got more braking power, more responsive. For more power cars, it is more of an safety feature as the normal drum brakes not powerful enuf to brake the car. Of course, disk is more ex than drum.. Vit4wd 1st Gear December 1, 2004 Share December 1, 2004 60s and 70s VW Beetle has drum brakes for front and rear They survived. The key lies in not tailgating and driving safely
Potheader Clutched December 1, 2004 Share December 1, 2004 (edited) That's because the 60s and 70s beetle dun have much power then. Try all drum for your WRX.. But agree, driving safely counts too! Edited December 1, 2004 by Potheader

Is disc setup superior than drum setup? What are the advantages/dis-advantages? A mechanic told me unless u track often, drums are just as effective as discs. My 2 liras worth! Ohlins Neutral Newbie December 3, 2004 Share December 3, 2004 a drum brake setup is cheaper than a disc brake set up (u can try asking the parts department the costs for a new brake disc). under normal driving conditions, there is not much difference. esp for FWD, more braking power is required for the front wheels and the rear only needs a drum brake setup. Magfocus 5th Gear December 3, 2004 Share December 3, 2004 Yeah he is right! Sometimes putting too powerful rear disc brakes on light cars would destabilise the car during hard braking.. If no EBD of course..
