General Motors not doing so well in the first half of 2014
General Motors (GM) is losing the battle to be the world's largest automotive brand. 2014 is well past the half way mark and with finanical statements tallied, it seems like GM has slid to fourth place with a gross revenues of $39 billion, slightly behind a fast-growing Daimler which chalked up $42 billion. In pole position is still Volkswagen, which reported a cool $68 billion while Toyota finished a close second at $62 billion. Sealing up the top five is Renault-Nissan at ($38.9 million)
With GM having endless recalls, it seems that most buyers are now shunting the brand. As of now GM has issued more than 45 recalls this year alone which in turn has affected almost 28 million cars around the world.. This meant that around $1.2 billion had to be factored into its second quarter earnings and it could get worse as the investigations continued.
Thankfully, the amount of revenue does not equate directly to the volume of cars produced. In terms of sales volume, GM came in third with 4.92 million units sold in the first half of 2014 while Toyota and Volkswagen did 5.1 million and 4.97 million respectively.
