In his Formula 4 debut, Mick Schumacher—16-year-old son of seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher—demonstrated the kind of laser-perfect focus which served his father so well, dominating the field and taking first at Germany's Oschersleben circuit.

And while the series—designed as a stepping stone where drivers graduate from karts to cars—is a long way from the glittering realm populated by F1 teams, there's little doubt the younger Schumacher's ascension will be brisk. Obviously, sponsors will be thrilled at the idea of backing a second-generation champion, and if he continues to demonstrate the skill displayed during his debut, Schumacher Jr. will be able to pick and choose which seat he wants to hop into.

Unfortunately, his father was unable to share in the festivities, as the elder Schumacher is still recovering from a devastating head injury incurred while skiing in late 2013.

Here's hoping father and son will eventually get to celebrate together.
