According to The Daily Mail, the two of them were in the small coupe on a closed section of the Monte Carlo Rally’s SS17 stage when the car's engine management light came on. After stopping the car, Harris opened the door and saw flames coming up his arm. Both of them jumped out of the A110 immediately before it was engulfed in flames.

It only took four minutes for the Alpine to be totally destroyed by the fire.

“Sadly the car was lost and it always makes me sad to see a beautiful car destroyed,” Harris said.

Alpine was later quoted saying that there was a "technical incident" during filming and is in the midst of investigating. In the meantime, it announced that it has "frozen all driving activities for pre-production cars".
