    New 2018 BMW X3

2021 BMW X3 xDrive30e (G01) New look, improved equipment and an optimised range structure for the customer: BMW has given its successful Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) BMW X3 and the Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) BMW X4 a comprehensive refresh. As they enter the second phase of their model cycle, they are now sportier, more modern and more digital. At first glance, a redesigned front end and a revised rear section lend even clearer emphasis to the robust off-road look and sporty appearance of the third generation of the successful BMW X3. Its coupé counterpart, the second-generation BMW X4, adopts the new front end, adds its own accentuation with the exclusive BMW mesh kidney grille and offers a particularly dynamic rear end. The refresh is rounded off with a modern interior with new equipment features and updated infotainment. BMW M GmbH is also refreshing the M models of the BMW X3 and BMW X4 at the same time. Modern drive technology The introduction of mild hybrid technology with 48-volt-starter generator now also with all petrol engines ensures a broad drive portfolio at the cutting edge of technology. These include the BMW X3 xDrive30e and, at the top of the range, particularly high-performance petrol and diesel models from BMW M GmbH. In Germany, all BMW X3 and BMW X4 are fitted with the all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive. More clearly structured range A new range structure for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 ensures a greater focus on sportiness and "X-ness" as well as enhanced clarity through deliberate reduction. The M sports package and the familiar M variants are available as an alternative to the standard equipment enriched with high-quality X elements. Worldwide success story The premium SAV BMW X3 and the coupé variant BMW X4 enjoy great popularity worldwide thanks to their distinctive combination of powerful drives and sporty agility with a robust appearance and plenty of space for family or sports equipment. The largest market by far is China (>45 per cent), followed by the European Union (>20 per cent, of which Germany accounts for about one third) and the USA (approx. 15 per cent). The BMW X3 offers its customers independence and individuality and has already been produced almost two million times since the launch of the second generation in 2010. The BMW X4 is a touch more athletic and extroverted, and has attracted nearly 400,000 buyers to date since 2014. The market launch of the new BMW X3 and the new BMW X4 will get underway in summer 2021, following the start of production at the Spartanburg plant (USA) in August 2021. A more striking look emphasising classic X elements As a result of design changes to the front and rear and an emphasis on classic X-elements, the new BMW X3 has a more modern look with a more powerful presence. The BMW kidney grille and headlights have been redesigned along with the front apron and rear bumper, while new graphics have been applied to the rear lights. The new BMW X3 features high-quality X elements as standard, including underbody protection and specific side sills in the style of the previous X-Line, thereby making a robust statement. The sporty genes of the Sports Activity Vehicle are underlined by the M sports package and the BMW X3 M40i and the BMW X3 M40d. Finally, BMW M GmbH offers the highest level of performance with the likewise revised M models of the BMW X3 and BMW X4. New BMW kidney grille and flatter headlights With the redesigned BMW kidney grille, headlights that are around ten millimetres flatter and the new front apron, the BMW X3 looks almost like a new vehicle. More strikingly shaped, especially in the upper area, the BMW kidney grille is larger than before and now comprises a singlepiece frame. A black bar, in which the iCam is positioned if fitted, provides visual separation of the grille. The frame is finished in pearlescent chrome, the grille bars in satin-finished aluminium. The flatter front headlights feature full LED technology as standard. As an option, darkened inserts in the M Shadow Line lights can replace the light components in the headlights. In addition to the optional adaptive LED headlights with Matrix function, where the adverse weather light takes on the function of the previously separate fog lights, the BMW Laser Light is now also available as an optional extra. Its dynamic laser light module amplifies the anti-dazzle high beam at speeds of over 60 km/h and follows the course of the road. The range of the high beam is increased to up to 650 metres. The light intensity of the very bright and powerful BMW laser light is also considerably greater. As part of the dynamic light distribution and anti-dazzle BMW Selective Beam high beam, it also supports the low beam when driving on country roads and motorways. New front apron and vertical air intakes Below the headlights, vertical air intakes arranged in a triangular interpretation frame the front bumper. In the new front apron, taut and amply-sized surfaces in body colour and the robust underbody protection reinforce the presence and high-quality aura of the new BMW X3. The window graphics and roof rails are in satin-finished aluminium as standard. The BMW X3 xDrive30e with plug-in hybrid drive also bears an "electrified by i" emblem on the front wing, while an additional blue ring adorns all BMW logos on this engine version, including those on the wheel hub covers. Newly designed rear apron and free-form tailpipe trims The rear section of the new BMW X3 offers greater clarity as a result of various measures. A black border gives the full LED rear lights a more precise appearance, while the narrower light graphic now includes a three-dimensionally modelled pincer contour and horizontal turn signals integrated in filigree style. The emphasis on horizontal lines, for example in the concave area at the lower end of the tailgate, contributes to the tidy impression of the rear. This now visually extends across the entire width of the vehicle, since the reflectors have been assigned a new place in the bumper. The newly designed underbody protection provides a powerful finish to the road. Its elaborate paintwork makes it look as if it were milled from a solid block of aluminium. Another new feature is the flush-fitting free-form tailpipe trims, which are now larger and sportier, conveying a more powerful presence. Aerodynamically optimised alloy wheels available as an option The BMW X3 is equipped as standard with silver 18-inch alloy wheels V-spoke 618 and 225/60 R18 tyres. As an optional extra, the 19-inch BMW aerodynamic wheel 842 in Jet Black Bicolor, previously reserved solely for the BMW iX3 are available, along with tyres of the size 245/50 R19. This has a singlesection plastic insert that is attached to the aluminium wheel with clips and a spring washer. The resulting increased surface area of the wheel, in conjunction with the air curtains, calms the air flow around the front wheel and front wheel arch. This improves aerodynamics, thereby reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Thanks to the use of the plastic trim, the wheel is around 15 per cent lighter than a wheel cast entirely from aluminium. In addition, the insert can easily be removed at any time, such as when using snow chains, and is simple to replace in the event of any damage. M sports package with specific exterior details The M sports package gives the BMW X3 a sportier orientation. The specific front apron features significantly larger air inlets and inserts finished in high-gloss black, as well as more pronounced air curtains. If the extended range of features is selected for the M High Gloss Shadow Line package for window graphics and roof rails, the frame and the bars of the BMW kidney grille are also finished in high-gloss black. The sportier rear bumper includes a more striking diffuser finished in Dark Shadow along with two additional side air-curtain-panels in high-gloss black. The standard trim includes the new 19-inch light alloy wheel Y-Spoke 887M in Midnight Grey Bicolor with 245/50 R19 tyres. 20-inch and 21-inch wheels are additionally available as an option, as are the M sports brakes with blue or red brake calipers. Further M insignia in the M Performance cars The BMW X3 M40i and BMW X3 M40d offer added visual differentiation. Both vehicles show their affiliation to the BMW M GmbH portfolio with a specific BMW M kidney grille. In addition to a chrome frame, it bears the typical M double grille bars in high-gloss black and with an M logo. While the same aprons as in the M sports package are to be found at the front and rear, the aerodynamically optimised M exterior mirrors in highgloss black, the free-form tailpipe trims in black chrome and the striking "Two Teeth" design ensure a distinctive look. The BMW X3 M40i and BMW X3 M40d are fitted as standard with 20-inch M light alloy wheels double-spoke 699M in Orbit Grey with the mixed tyres 245/45 R20 at the front and 275/40 R20 at the rear. As an optional extra, these wheels are available in Jet Black, while other exclusive options include the 21- inch M light alloy wheels double spoke 718M in Jet Black burnished. Eleven paint finishes to choose from Following the redesign of the BMW X3, BMW offers a total of eleven paint finishes in the regular range, including the two non-metallic finishes Alpine White and Black. The metallic paint finish Skyscraper Grey (from 12/21) is new, supplementing the existing metallic finishes Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect, Mineral White, Phytonic Blue and Black Sapphire. From the M sports package upwards, the new M Brooklyn Grey metallic is available in addition to the familiar metallic finish M Carbon Black. Also available for the first time for the BMW X3 are the two BMW Individual paint finishes Aventurine Red and Tanzanite Blue, replacing the BMW Individual finish Sunstone. For the first time there is also a choice of numerous special BMW Individual paint finishes such as the matt finish Frozen Deep Grey. The range of special finishes available is to be further expanded in the future. Interior and equipment The new BMW X3 and the new BMW X4 now welcome passengers in a significantly revised ambience. The centre console in the two X models is drawn from the current BMW 4-Series. The free-standing, central Control Display with touch function now offers a screen diagonal of 10.25 inches as standard in all vehicles. A 12.3-inch version of the touch display is also available as an option. The significantly improved range of standard equipment now also includes sports seats with upholstery featuring a new generation of Sensatec as well as automatic air conditioning with 3-zone control, which allows separate temperature settings for the driver and front passenger as well as separate climate control at the rear. In order to make the vehicle configuration process clearer and more straightforward for customers, not least by reducing the number of conflicts, the complexity of the equipment lines and optional extras has deliberately been reduced by 30 per cent. 10.25-inch display as standard and modified control units As part of the revision, the BMW X3 and BMW X4 now have a much larger central information display, with a standard touchscreen diagonal of 10.25 inches. A 12.3-inch version is also available as an optional extra. Below the monitor is the control panel for the now standard 3-zone automatic air conditioning, in which the centre air vents are integrated. In addition to buttons and rocker switches for operating various automatic air conditioning functions, the heated rear window and the heated seats, the control panel includes an LCD display as well as a button each for activating the hazard warning lights and the driver assistance systems. Repositioned below it is the audio control panel, which like the redesigned centre console is finished in high-gloss black as standard. In addition to the cupholder and a model-specific emblem, the centre console accommodates the newly designed control island with the gear selector lever, buttons for the start/stop system, the electric parking brake, hill descent control and various driving experience functions as well as the BMW Controller. The engine start button is now positioned here, too. The surfaces are finished in matt black, while the rotary knob of the BMW Controller has a galvanised rhombic structure. This new control island in the BMW X3 and BMW X4 is drawn from the current BMW 3-Series. Sports seats with Sensatec upholstery as standard The seats of the BMW X3 and BMW X4 have been significantly upgraded. Sports seats with seat heating now come as standard, featuring firm upholstery and humps as well as pronounced side bolsters to enhance the sporty look and provide improved lateral support in dynamic driving situations. Optional electric control functions with memory and electric lumbar support are available. The seats are upholstered in high-quality, leather-like Sensatec in the new Ray grain. The main seat surfaces are perforated. The new upholstery offers a natural feel and a high-quality appearance while being easy to clean: it is also used on the rear seats, centre console, centre armrest, armrests and pull handles on the doors, as well as the instrument panel, with contrasting stitching as an optional extra. The sports seats and the interior equipment are available in the colours Black, Canberra Beige, Cognac and Taco Ted. Optional sports seats are available in Vernasca leather in black, black with blue or red contrast stitching, as well as in Mocha, Oyster and Taco Red with manual or extensive electric controls. They also offer manual seat depth adjustment and, on the driver's seat, electric adjustment of the backrest width. As an optional extra, it is also possible to combine them with the BMW Individual extended Merino leather upholstery in Tartufo or Tacora Red/Black Bicolor. The optional air-conditioned seats with active seat ventilation for driver and front passenger can be ordered with perforated Vernasca leather in Black or Mocha, while the M sports seats in Vernasca leather are available in black with blue contrast stitching or in Cognac. Rearranged selection of trim finishers New electroplated trim elements on the air vents, starting with the basic variant, adds a touch of elegance while emphasising the horizontal lines in the interior. Meanwhile the selection of interior trim finishers has been newly structured. In the standard trim, the interior trim finishers are finished in high-gloss black, but they are also optionally available in fine-finish Aluminium, dark high-gloss Oak and the new variant openpore Ash. The optional Piano Black high-gloss trim is drawn from the BMW Individual range. The interior trim finishers in Aluminium Rhombicle dark, which are now also available in the BMW X3, come as standard in the M sports package, while the M interior trim finishers Carbon Fibre are available as an option. From the M sports package upwards, the M leather steering wheel with multifunction is a standard feature, while contrast stitching in the M colours and an open 6 o'clock spoke are added in the M40i and M40d models. Extended ambient lighting functions Now with additional functions, the optional extra Ambient Light features contour lighting above the decorative trim in the dashboard and ambient lighting that shines gently downwards below the accent trim to create a particularly high-quality, relaxing atmosphere in the interior. When unlocking and locking the vehicle, the contour lighting in the door trim panels flashes, while a flashing light on the instrument panel signals an incoming telephone call. A door that has been left open is indicated by a red flashing light on the door in question; when the driver leaves the vehicle, the ambient lighting switches off from the rear to the front. If comfort access is also fitted in addition to the Ambient Light option, the welcome function is also supported by the fact that the ambient lighting switches on from the front to the rear. The brightness of the ambient lighting can be adjusted independently of the interior lighting. Selection of a total of eleven colour ensembles, six colours (orange, lilac, mint, bronze, blue and white) and functions such as "dimmed when driving at night" is available in the menu of the central information display. In the night design, the central monitor seems literally to float above the instrument panel. Comfortable options The BMW X3 and BMW X4 offer a range of other comfortable options. The Ambient Air package allows the interior to be pleasantly scented with a total of eight available fragrances in three intensities. In addition, it purifies the air through simultaneous ionisation, thereby contributing to general well-being on board. The BMW display key - available in Germany in conjunction with the auxiliary heating system - has a 2.2- inch touch display which provides information on fuel level, range and service and maintenance due, as well as indicating whether the windows and the optional sunroof are closed. Rear versatility and a large luggage compartment volume In order to increase seating comfort at the rear, the backrest of the rear seat with 40:20:40 split as standard can be optionally and individually adjusted in several stages in its inclination via the cargo function. For increased functionality, the optional storage package includes an adaptive fastening system. The standard load volume of 550 litres can be increased to up to 1,600 litres in the BMW X3 and from 525 litres to a maximum of 1,430 litres in the BMW X4. Engines and drive The new BMW X3 and the new BMW X4 demonstrate increasing electrification with modern hybrid technology in connection with all seven drive systems available in Germany. In addition to the BMW X3 xDrive30e with plug-in hybrid drive, which has been in production since December 2019, all 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines in the two model series now use 48-volt mild hybrid technology. After the three available diesel engines were converted to the mild-hybrid-system in the course of 2020, the three petrol engines are now also being fitted with this technology including a 48-volt-starter generator, ensuring even better driving performance with lower fuel consumption and increased driving comfort. The power spectrum in Germany ranges from 135 kW/184 hp to 265 kW/360 hp, and all BMW X3 and BMW X4 models in Germany are equipped with BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive as standard. 48-volt mild hybrid technology with 48-volt starter generator The mild hybrid technology used in all combustion engines draws on a particularly powerful 48-volt starter generator and an additional battery, so it has significantly expanded possibilities when it comes to brake energy recuperation. When the accelerator pedal is no longer pressed, the generator converts the kinetic energy into electricity, which is stored in the 48-volt battery. Recuperation in coasting mode is particularly intense in driving experience switch mode SPORT. The deceleration effect created in addition to the engine drag torque is also harnessed during braking manoeuvres. A specific braking system familiar from the plug-in hybrid models ensures an on-demand and efficiency-optimised combination of electric and mechanical deceleration at all times. The energy obtained by means of recuperation and stored in the 48-volt battery is also used to supply the 12-volt electrical system and the electrically operated vehicle functions connected to it. It can also be used to generate additional drive power. For this purpose, the drive power flows back to the 48-volt starter generator, which then takes on the role of an electric drive and supports the combustion engine. This enables the engine to run as often as possible in an efficiency-optimised load range so as to reduce consumption peaks. What is more, the 48- volt starter generator creates an electric boost during acceleration. This instantly available additional output of 8 kW/11 hp supports dynamic power delivery. The result is optimised spontaneity when starting off as well as an acceleration build-up during intermediate sprints. The powerful starter generator also causes the combustion engine to switch off and start with a high degree of spontaneity and low levels of vibration. This also optimises comfort when using the auto start/stop function as well as the gliding function. If the vehicle is slowed down when approaching a junction or the end of a traffic jam, for example, the combustion engine can be switched off as soon as the speed drops below 15 km/h. Available at speeds of between 25 and 160 km/h, the gliding function now also causes the engine to be switched off completely instead of being disconnected from the drive train. Three more supreme and efficient diesel engines The three diesel engines on offer ensure supreme and efficient mobility. The engine in the BMW X3 xDrive20d and the BMW X4 xDrive20d delivers an output of 140 kW/190 hp and offers a maximum torque of 400 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. The two models accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 213 km/h. The BMW i3 and the BMW X4 xDrive30d is powered by an in-line 6-cylinder engine with a capacity of 3.0 litres. The diesel unit delivers a maximum output of 210 kW/286 hp at 4,000 rpm and an impressive maximum torque of 650 Nm between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. This means that both body variants reach the 100 km/h mark from standstill after just 5.7 seconds, with a top speed of 245 km/h. The BMW X3 M40d and the BMW X4 M40d are even more powerful Their BMW M Performance diesel engine generates a maximum output of 250 kW/340 hp and delivers a maximum torque of 700 Nm from just 1,750 rpm. As a result, acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h is possible in just 4.9 seconds, while the top speed is cut off at 250 km/h. All diesel units feature BMW TwinPower turbocharging with variable turbine geometry and common-rail direct injection at maximum injection pressures of 2,500 to 2,700 bar. For emission control, BMW BluePerformance technology is on board with particulate filter, oxidation and NOx storage catalytic converter along with an SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue injection. Powerful petrol engines with four and six cylinders The petrol engine range includes two 4-cylinder engines and a powerful in-line 6-cylinder. Their innovative BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology includes TwinScroll turbocharging, direct high-precision injection, the variable camshaft control system double VANOS and the fully variable valve control system Valvetronic, while emission control is supported by a petrol engine particulate filter. Additional efficiency and a power boost of 8 kW/11 hp when needed is provided by 48-volt-mild-hybrid-technology. The BMW X3 xDrive20i and the BMW X4 xDrive20i are powered by a dynamic and efficient 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine. It generates an output of 135 kW/184 hp and now delivers a maximum torque of 300 Nm between 1,350 and 4,000 rpm. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 8.4 seconds, while the top speed is 215 km/h. In the BMW X3 xDrive30i and the BMW X4 xDrive30i, the 2.0-litre-4-cylinder engine delivers an output of 180 kW/245 hp with almost identical fuel consumption figures to those of the 20i. The maximum torque of 350 Nm goes on stream between 1,460 and 4,800 rpm. These two variants accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, while their top speed is 235 km/h. The M Performance in-line 6-cylinder engine in the BMW X3 M40i and the BMW X4 M40i is designed for maximum revving and superior pulling power. It generates an output of 265 kW/360 hp and delivers a maximum torque of 500 Nm, which is available between 1,900 and 5,000 rpm. Thus equipped, the 100 km/h mark is reached from a standstill after just 4.9 second, while the top speed is 250 km/h (cut off). Plug-in hybrid with an electric range of up to 50 kilometres The BMW X3 xDrive30e plug-in hybrid model is reserved for the Sports Activity Vehicle. Its system consists of a 4-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor whose power is transmitted to all four wheels. Their joint system output of 215 kW/292 hp can be increased by up to 30 kW/41 hp by temporary use of the electric motor's peak output. The BMW X3 xDrive30e takes just 6.1 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h. It has a lithium-ion high-voltage battery that enables a range of up to 50 kilometres. 8-speed Steptronic transmission for all engines All engine versions are combined with 8-speed Steptronic transmissions specifically matched to the respective engine characteristics, contributing to lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions with their optimised efficiency. The BMW X3 M40i, BMW X3 M40d and all BMW X4 models feature the otherwise optional 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission including paddle shifts and Launch Control as standard. BMW xDrive: precise power distribution with optimised efficiency BMW xDrive all-wheel drive makes a significant contribution to the versatile sporty flair of the new BMW X3 and BMW X4. The latest edition of the system is characterised by reduced weight and optimised internal efficiency. In addition, the precise electronic control of the intelligent allwheel drive ensures especially sporty power distribution that is typical of the brand. Its rear-wheel orientation makes dynamic cornering in particular an especially intense experience. In addition, BMW xDrive optimises both driving stability and traction over rough terrain. High-quality suspension technology with an individual set-up With its high-quality and specifically matched suspension technology, the BMW X3 and BMW X4 offer plenty of agility as well as a high level of ride comfort. All BMW X4 and BMW X3 from the M sports package upwards are also fitted with variable sports steering as standard in addition to the M sports suspension. The design of the electromechanical power steering with its set-up geared towards particularly dynamic driving characteristics ensures high precision when taking bends in sporty style as well as supreme straight-line stability. At the same time, the speed-related Servotronic power steering enables comfortable manoeuvring. With the optional adaptive suspension, the electronically controlled dampers adapt to both road conditions and driving style. For either a sporty or comfortable basic set-up, there is a choice of two maps that can be activated using the driving experience switch. A powerful lightweight braking system and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) also contribute to sporty and safe handling characteristics. In addition to the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), the range of functions also includes the ADB-X electronic differential lock, CBC Cornering Brake Control, DBC Dynamic Brake Control, start-off assistant and HDC Hill Descent Control. Performance Control - a standard feature in the BMW X3 from the M sports package upwards as well as in all BMW X4 models - increases agility by distributing drive torque to the rear wheels depending on the situation. Special dynamic performance in the M40i and M40d models The M40i and M40d models of the BMW X3 and BMW X4 offer even more dynamic performance. They come as standard with a flapcontrolled M sports exhaust system, M sports brakes and an M sports suspension with M performance-specific set-up. An adaptive M sports suspension is available as an option, offering an even greater spread between ride comfort and sportiness. In addition, the BMW xDrive allwheel drive system is significantly more rear-oriented. Integrated in DSC and acting on the rear wheels, Performance Control has been given a new set-up to provide the typical M level of dynamics, agility and traction. Aerodynamic fine-tuning with success With a drag coefficient from cW = 0.29, the BMW X3 and BMW X4 boast the best levels in their segment. The reduction of air resistance not only helps reduce fuel consumption, it also offers benefits in terms of noise comfort. In addition to aerodynamically optimised vehicle proportions, the two models feature an underbody structure with additional trim elements for example, combining to create an unprecedented degree of closure. Further detail optimisations such as the roof spoiler with lateral aero edges and the active air flap control round off the range of aerodynamic measures. The latter system controls the cooling air for the engine, brakes and air conditioning more variably and in addition to aerodynamic benefits offers further savings potential in terms of energy and heat management. Assistance systems In refreshing the BMW X3 and BMW X4, BMW has reorganised and once again significantly expanded the range of modern driver assistance systems to enhance both comfort and safety. The Driving Assistant Professional, available for the first time as an option in these model series, offers the driver comfortable relief and increased safety in driving situations where there is a conscious desire for assistance.. Parking Assistant Plus now also includes the reverse assistant, which helps retrace a completed line in reverse. Another new feature in the BMW X3 and BMW X4 is the optionally available BMW Drive Recorder, which takes videos around the vehicle. Assistance systems for enhanced comfort and safety The new BMW X3 and the new BMW X4 offer numerous modern driver assistance systems that enhance comfort and safety. They process camera images and data collected by ultrasonic and radar sensors. Standard systems include cruise control with braking function, as well as front collision warning with braking function for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. The next level is offered by the optional Driving Assistant. This includes a lane change and lane departure warning function with lane return guidance, rear cross-traffic alert and the traffic sign detection function Speed Limit Info including No Passing Indicator. If an imminent rear-end collision is detected, it also warns following traffic by activating the hazard warning flashers in double frequency. Driving Assistant Professional with extensive additional functions One of the numerous functions of the optional Driving Assistant Professional is the active cruise control with Stop & Go-function, which can be used at speeds of up to 210 km/h. Adjusting to the respective traffic situation and environmental conditions, this adaptively maintains a safety distance to vehicles in front that can be selected in four stages; it can also brake the vehicle to a standstill and automatically start it again. It now also offers improved functionality in the city and can actively stop at stop signs as well as red lights in Germany, reminding the driver to move off again when the light changes from red to green. The right-of-way warning system alerts the driver visually and acoustically to the possibility of missing a priority situation - mainly at intersections. The intersection warning now has an additional city brake function that actively triggers a braking manoeuvre in the event of an imminent collision with cross-traffic. The avoidance manoeuvre assistant now also reacts to pedestrians and cyclists. The emergency stop assistant is able to guide the vehicle for a short time in the event of a medical emergency and bring it to a controlled stop in its own lane. In the event of a traffic jam on the motorway, the emergency lane assistant automatically recognises the need to form a lane for emergency services and guides the vehicle to the ideal edge of the current lane according to the situation. The already familiar steering/lane guidance assistant, which helps the driver keep to the centre of the lane up to a speed of 210 km/h by means of corrective steering interventions, now also works in narrow passages. For this purpose, it now recognises necessary lane changes ahead as part of active navigation guidance and supports the driver in keeping to the route calculated by the navigation system when on multi-lane roads. When approaching a motorway junction or exit, a display in the instrument cluster indicates the need for a lane change, which the driver can then carry out particularly conveniently using the lane change assistant. Already included in the familiar Driving Assistant Plus in the existing BMW X3 and BMW X4 were the lane keeping assistant with active side collision protection and the automatic Speed Limit Assist, which automatically adopts detected speed limits and adapts the car's speed to the route, as well as the front cross-traffic alert and wrong way alert. These functions are now also part of Driving Assistant Professional. The 3D environment visualisation Assisted View in the instrument cluster provides an overview of which Driving Assistant Professional assistance systems are activated and what functions they offer. In a three-dimensional representation of the vehicle and its surroundings, passenger cars, trucks and motorcycles detected by cameras and sensors are shown on the lane currently being used as well as on any neighbouring lanes. Vehicles moving within a critical distance are highlighted. Graphic symbols indicate driving manoeuvres that can be initiated in the given situation using the assistance systems available. Parking Assistant now includes the reverse assistant The BMW X3 and BMW X4 feature Park Distance Control including AutoPDC with ultrasound sensor at the front and rear of the vehicle as standard. The optional Parking Assistant helps select and use parallel or perpendicular parking spaces, handles steering tasks, acceleration and braking manoeuvres and gearshifts, and can automatically back out of gaps that are parallel to the road; in addition, it now includes the reverse assistant. This takes over the steering tasks when manoeuvring backwards by travelling in the opposite direction along the line that was last travelled forwards. The driver simply has to concentrate on operating the accelerator and brake pedals and keeping an eye on the surroundings. A distance of up to 50 metres can be covered in this way, at a speed of up to 9 km/h. Parking Assistant Plus offers an even better overview. With the help of Park View, Panorama View and 3D Top View, a 360-degree image of the vehicle and its surroundings is shown from different perspectives on the Control Display. In addition, the driver can have a three-dimensional live image of their vehicle and its surroundings transmitted to their smartphone by means of Remote 3D View. New on board: BMW Drive Recorder One feature already familiar from other BMW models is the optionally available BMW Drive Recorder. The latter uses the cameras of the driver assistance systems to record video images around the vehicle; it can then be used to store these images so they can be played back on the Control Display while the vehicle is stationary or exported via the USB interface. For example, rides through spectacular landscapes or eye-catching manoeuvres on the race track can be captured and shared. On activation of the BMW Drive Recorder, videos lasting 40 seconds are recorded and saved. In the event of a collision, up to 20 seconds of footage from before and after the impact is automatically saved. Display and operating system, BMW ConnectedDrive With BMW Live Cockpit Plus as standard and intelligent networking including innovative digital services based on BMW Operating System 7, the BMW X3 and BMW X4 now offer particularly close interaction between driver and vehicle. The driver can configure up to ten pages of live content on the Control Display in the main menu, each with two to four pads (tiles); what is more, greater personalisation of content and displays is now possible, too. Intuitive multi-modal operation has been further optimised: depending on the situation, the driver has a choice between touch operation on the Control Display, the tried-and-tested iDrive Controller, the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel and voice control. Digital services include the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, Connected Music and Remote Software Upgrade. BMW Live Cockpit Plus with 10.25-inch display as standard The new BMW X3 and BMW X4 now already come equipped with BMW Live Cockpit Plus as standard. This includes the iDrive operating system with a Control Display which is now at least 10.25 inches in size and a Touch Controller, as well as an instrument cluster in Black Panel look with a 5.1-inch colour display at the centre. The package also includes a multimedia and navigation system, two USB ports for data transfer and a WLAN interface. A permanently installed SIM card with 4G LTE Connectivity and the Connected Package Professional, which is also standard, enable the use of digital services such as BMW TeleServices, Intelligent Emergency Call, Real Time Traffic Information including hazard warning, Remote Services and much more besides. BMW Live Cockpit Plus can optionally be supplemented with the BMW Head-Up Display: this projects driving-related information in full colour onto the windscreen, in other words directly into the driver's field of vision. Two 12.3-inch displays in BMW Live Cockpit Professional The optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional offers a fully digital display network: the high-resolution instrument cluster behind the steering wheel and the Control Display each have a screen size of 12.3 inches. The fully digital instrument display has space for a navigation map section, media content, status displays for the driver assistance systems or the 3D environment visualisation Assisted View. New generation of navigation with BMW Maps One of the most important innovations in the area of digital services is BMW Maps. The cloud-based system enables significant performance improvement, a high degree of accuracy and simplified destination entry. The new-generation navigation system offers extremely fast and dynamic route calculation based on precise real-time traffic data delivered at short intervals. The arrival time is calculated in advance, taking into account the usual traffic volume along the entire route. Comprehensive traffic data is now also available for smaller roads, too. The selection of a destination can be made by free text input, and search results are then sorted precisely according to relevance. Alternatively, the destination can be entered conveniently by means of voice input. So-called points of interest (POI) along the route are described in more detail - complete with ratings, opening hours and photos. In addition, BMW Maps with Connected Parking provides drivers with even more detailed support in the search for a vacant parking space near their destination. When selecting the navigation destination, the driver receives an indication of the parking situation at their destination at the predicted time of arrival Shortly before arrival, helpful information about the nearest car park is provided, along with suggestions for a route on which there is a greater likelihood of finding a parking space near the destination. The familiar On-Street Parking Information and ParkNow services are intelligently integrated into the functional range of BMW Maps. Meanwhile, Connected Charging helps find charging stations for the BMW X3 xDrive30e. Smartphone connectivity and integration of 3rd party services BMW has always taken a leading role in connecting the vehicle with the customer's digital ecosystem. For example, BMW was the first company in the industry to comprehensively integrate the iPod into its vehicles, offer Apple CarPlay on a completely wireless basis and implement the keyless vehicle access system Digital Key with the Apple iPhone. BMW Live Cockpit Plus and BMW Live Cockpit Professional offer optimised smartphone integration, for example via Apple CarPlay. This allows the use of a variety of digital services such as the digital voice service Siri, various map apps, music streaming services such as Apple Music and the messaging service WhatsApp. The systems are integrated directly in the display and operating system via a wireless LAN connection between the respective smartphone and the vehicle. Here, the driver can view all the important information from the apps on the Control Display and also - in intelligently processed form - in the instrument cluster and the optional BMW Head-Up Display. With Android Auto™, the BMW Group has added another customerrelevant service to its range of seamless in-vehicle connectivity. Android Auto in a BMW offers safe, straightforward use of smartphone functions such as music, media or messaging apps while driving. With the help of Google Assistant, the customer can interact with their smartphone and the actions performed are shown on the vehicle's information display. Highlights of the interaction between Android Auto and BMW include convenient and wireless networking and the intelligent integration of Google MapsTM navigation instructions in the BMW Head-up Display. Deep integration of Amazon Alexa makes it possible to use Amazon's voice service inside the vehicle in the same way as the customer is already used to doing at home. Editing shopping lists, checking messages and playing music is now even easier. It is also possible to control compatible smart home devices from inside the vehicle. With the help of the My BMW app, Amazon Alexa can be installed in the vehicle in just a few steps. The My BMW app is available in over 40 countries for both iOS and Android operating systems and can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. As a new universal interface to the vehicle, it provides information about the vehicle's condition at all times. Depending on which equipment options are fitted, it also enables remote access functions such as vehicle location, locking and unlocking the doors or recording the vehicle's surroundings (Remote 3D View). Also, destination addresses can be sent from the smartphone to the vehicle's navigation system, for example. The range of functions for electrified vehicles has also been expanded; one example here is that the electrically powered range is displayed even more clearly. The My BMW app also makes it even easier for customers to log in to any current BMW model using their personal BMW ID. For example, the user information and settings stored in the BMW ID can now also be transferred to the vehicle very conveniently by scanning a QR code displayed on the central screen. Enhanced functionality for the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is also constantly gaining additional capabilities in the BMW X3 and BMW X4, creating an even more intensive bond between driver and vehicle. With the digital companion activated by voice control (e.g. "Hey BMW") or at the touch of a button, naturally spoken instructions can now be used to regulate the air conditioning, open and close the windows or change the driving experience switch modes, for instance. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant can also be used to access the new News app - which enables passengers to have the latest news read out loud to them - and it is able to learn routines that enhance both comfort and driving pleasure in certain situations. For example, the side window on the driver's side can be automatically opened on arrival at a selected location defined via GPS coordinates - such as a garage or car park entrance. The system also recognises whether it is being addressed by the driver or the front passenger and reacts accordingly - for example by adjusting the air conditioning on one side only. With the integration of Amazon Alexa Car, the BMW X3 and BMW X4 also have access to more than 100,000 Amazon Skills. Remote Software Upgrade updates "over-the-air" Since 2018 and the introduction of BMW Operating System 7, it has been possible for drivers of BMW models to keep their vehicle constantly up to date with the latest software status using Remote Software Upgrade. The BMW Group is one of the key drivers in the field of functional overthe- air upgrades. Among European car manufacturers, BMW Group carried out the largest-scale upgrade campaigns in 2020. Thanks to Remote Software Upgrade, the BMW X3 and BMW X4 also remain consistently up to date with the latest software. The upgrades can include content ranging from new services to improved vehicle functions and can be downloaded "over-the-air", either via the My BMW app on a smartphone or directly into the vehicle via the SIM card installed in it. Furthermore, intelligent networking offers the option to integrate additional functions into the vehicle at a later date. The options that can be retrofitted digitally include the high beam assistant and BMW Drive Recorder.

    New 2018 BMW X3

2021 BMW X3 M Competition (F97) Two years after the launch of the first BMW M GmbH High Performance models for the BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle and the BMW X4 Sports Activity Coupé, the BMW M variants of the SAV and SAC for the mid-size segment are now undergoing a comprehensive refresh. In addition to new design features drawn from the BMW X3 and BMW X4, which have likewise been revised, along with M specific changes and a new operating concept, the new BMW X3 M Competitio and the new BMW X4 M Competition also offer increased pulling power. The maximum torque of the 375 kW/510 hp in-line 6-cylinder engine, which has been increased by 50 Nm to 650 Nm, enables a 0.3-second improvement in the standard sprint from 0 to 100 km/h for example, which the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition now complete in 3.8 seconds. The market launch of the new models is due to start in August 2021. Increased torque for the high-performance engine BMW M GmbH previously developed the in-line 6-cylinder engine of the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition from scratch for the SAV and the SAC in 2019. The most powerful in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine built by BMW with an output of 375 kW/510 hp - now also used in other BMW M models - currently delivers a maximum torque level of 650 Nm in the very latest, further optimised version for the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition, an increase from the previous 600 Nm, and this torque is available between 2,750 and 5,500 rpm. Peak output is reached at 6,250 rpm and is maintained up to the maximum engine speed of 7,200 rpm. The power unit features not only the high-revving characteristics typical of M and M TwinPower Turbo technology but also racetrack-proven cooling and oil supply concepts. The 3.0-litre engine offers unmistakable performance characteristics with typical M linear power delivery and a high level of revving power that runs right through to maximum engine speed. This power goes hand in hand with a striking sound. Sophisticated M TwinPower Turbo technology and the use of two petrol engine particulate filters and four catalytic converters help the high-performance engines achieve outstanding efficiency and an exemplary emissions response. Even sportier driving performance Further fine-tuning of the in-line 6-cylinder engine enables the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition to deliver even sportier performance figures. From standstill, the two models now reach the 100 km/h mark in just 3.8 seconds: this undercuts the level of the predecessor models by 0.3 seconds, putting them on a par with high-performance sports cars. The maximum speed for all three models is electronically cut off at 250 km/h. This limit is raised to 285 km/h in conjunction with the optional M Driver's Package. High-revving, powerful and efficient The in-line 6-cylinder engine in the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition now features the forged lightweight crankshaft of the BMW M3 and M4 models. Its extremely torsion-resistant design enables transmission of the particularly high torque, while its low weight and reduced rotating masses also benefit the engine's revving power. The crankcase is extremely rigid due to a so-called closed-deck design, enabling high combustion pressure and optimised power output. The iron coating of the cylinder barrels applied by means of wire arc spraying reduces weight and friction loss, while the cylinder head also has a core that is manufactured by means of 3D-printing-. This additive manufacturing process allows geometric shapes to be created that cannot be realised using conventional metal casting methods. As a result of 3D printing technology, the cylinder head core has a reduced weight and a coolant duct layout which is optimised in terms of temperature management. M TwinPower Turbo Technology comprises two mono-scroll turbochargers that supply compressed air to cylinders one to three and four to six respectively. Here, the power output is further improved by means of compressors and indirect charge air cooling supplied by a low-temperature circuit. Flow-optimised intake air routing ensures low pressure loss, while an electrically controlled and therefore quickly closable wastegate enhances responsiveness. The wide-opening wastegate also supports the effect of the catalytic converters positioned close to the engine. With a maximum injection pressure of 350 bar, the High Precision Injection system for petrol direct injection enables particularly efficient fuel mixture preparation. Fine atomisation of the fuel in the combustion chambers ensures an optimised emission response, especially under full load when accelerating and at high speeds. The technology package is rounded off with the variable valve control system VALVETRONIC and the continuously variable camshaft adjustment system double VANOS. Cooling concept and oil supply based on racing expertise The in-line 6-cylinder engine's racetrack-proven cooling system is designed to enable an exceptionally high level of output and includes two laterally positioned radiators in addition to the central one. There is also an additional engine oil cooler and a separate transmission oil cooler. This elaborate system ensures that optimum operating temperatures are maintained for all drive components at all times - whether on short day-to-day trips and in city traffic or when used on the racetrack. BMW M GmbH motor racing expertise is also evident in the design of the oil supply system, which is geared towards dynamic racetrack operation. The engine's weight-optimised oil pan has two separate chambers and an integrated suction channel. An additional suction stage enables the map-controlled oil pump to deliver lubricant from the smaller oil sump, which serves as a volume buffer. In this way, a reliable oil supply is guaranteed at all times, even during extreme longitudinal and lateral acceleration. M sports exhaust system with continuously variable exhaust flaps The standard M sports exhaust system in the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition enriches the engine sound characteristic of BMW M automobiles with the addition of a distinctly sonorous quality, especially when under intense load and at high engine speeds, thereby giving the sound even more of a motor racing touch for a particularly emotional driving experience - while fully retaining day-to-day practicality. The infinitely variable flaps of the M sports exhaust system allow for a highly varied sound production. The specific sound type is linked to the engine characteristics: here it is possible to select the SPORT and SPORT+ modes in addition to the standard setting. The M Sound Control button on the centre console can also be used to activate an emphatically discreet engine sound. 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and three shift modes Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. In addition to fully automatic gear changes, it also enables manual shifting with sequential selection of the drive position. In addition to the new M gear selector in the centre console, shift paddles on the steering wheel are also available for this purpose. In manual mode, multiple downshifts can be made to the lowest possible gear so as to be able to harness the engine drag torque for braking purposes. When accelerating, no forced upshift is triggered even when the engine is revved up. The M Steptronic transmission is designed for spontaneous response and exceptionally fast gear changes. The torque converter lock-up clutch is already 100 per cent closed immediately after start-up. Using the Drivelogic rocker switch integrated in the gear selector, the driver can influence the transmission's gearshift characteristics in both automatic and manual mode. Efficient driving with comfortable gearshifts is promoted in Drivelogic Mode 1, while switching to Mode 2 boosts sportiness by means of shortened shift times. In the Mode 3 the shift dynamic is further increased. In addition, the shift programme keeps the engine in the upper rev range so as to support extremely dynamic driving with maximum drive power on the race track. M xDrive all-wheel drive system with rear-wheel orientation The M xDrive all-wheel drive system also contributes to the high agility of the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition, combining the traction benefits of power transmission to all four wheels with the proven dynamic qualities of classic rear-wheel drive. The electronically controlled M xDrive - which is networked with the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system - only directs part of the drive torque to the front axle when the rear wheels reach the limits of their power transmission capabilities. At the touch of a button, the driver can influence not only how the driving stability control works but also the distribution of drive torque between the front and rear wheels. M Dynamic mode can be activated as an alternative to the basic DSC setting, enabling the M xDrive setting 4WD Sport. This results in a power distribution that is even more rear-wheel-oriented, enabling controlled drifts and lively handling. Optimised for particularly dynamic driving situations, this mode with deactivated DSC system can be combined with the 4WD standard all-wheel drive setting or 4WD Sport mode. This selection is made in the iDrive menu. The centrally controlled interaction of the M xDrive all-wheel drive system with the Active M Differential ensures loss-free transmission of engine power. Drive torque is distributed continuously and fully variably between the front and rear wheels by the electronically controlled multi-plate clutch of the transfer box, and by the Active M Differential between the two rear wheels as required. This ensures extra traction, agility and driving stability, especially in sporty use or on roads where there is varying grip. Stabilising interventions of the driving stability control DSC are only necessary in extreme situations. Suspension The BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition provide a level of driving dynamics potential that is exceptional in their vehicle segment. Outstanding values in the areas of longitudinal and lateral acceleration, handling and deceleration go hand in hand with a high level of driving stability, neutral self-steering response and comfort characteristics that enhance suitability for day-to-day use and lengthy trips. The basis for this combination of agility, dynamics and precision that is so typical of BMW M automobiles is suspension technology that perfectly matches the high engine output and the M xDrive all-wheel drive system. Optimisation involved extensive test drives, including at the BMW Group's test site in Miramas in southern France as well as on the Nordschleife at Nürburgring. Adaptive suspension with M specific set-up The SAV BMW X3 M Competition and the SAC BMW X4 M Competition feature the adaptive M suspension in a specific set-up as standard. Its electronically controlled dampers ensure both a high level of day-to-day comfort and extremely direct road contact, with limited wheel and body movement. The damping forces are ideally suited to cope with every situation on the road and set individually for each wheel at continuously varying levels by means of interior electromagnetically controlled valves. The basic characteristic of the dampers can be influenced at the touch of a button. There are three modes to choose from, each with its own map. COMFORT mode harmoniously compensates for road irregularities while ensuring a high level of driving stability. SPORT mode activates a noticeably firmer damper set-up, and SPORT+ mode further strengthens the connection to achieve maximum levels of longitudinal and lateral acceleration in highly dynamic driving situations on even road surfaces such as race tracks. Distinctly stiffened body and hallmark M driving characteristics Driving precision and response are based on extensive measures to reinforce the body and suspension attachment. The BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition feature an M specific strut package for the front end with a precision strut in the engine compartment as the central element. This connects the suspension strut domes to each other and is also optionally available as a particularly light and even stronger M Carbon precision strut. In the area of the end wall, an A-strut is integrated in the front end of the vehicle, while two further struts increase stiffness between the suspension strut domes and the front end of the vehicle. In addition, a generously dimensioned rear strut and rear axle shear struts ensure the high torsional rigidity of the body. Numerous M specific details and the precise set-up of the suspension design help enhance the performance-oriented character of the SAV and SAC. The two-link spring strut front axle, like the five-link rear axle, has independent kinematic and elastokinematic characteristics that are beneficial to precise wheel control and track stability. Typical M driving characteristics including precisely controllable handling during dynamic cornering over the entire lateral acceleration range is ensured by the broad spread between dynamics and ride comfort along with a linear build-up of lateral forces. In order to implement M specific kinematics , the front axle is fitted with independent pivot bearings, tension struts and wishbones. Specific elastomeric mounts transfer the forces acting via the control arms into the axle support and the body. Driving stability and directional control on bends is optimised by means of increased camber levels for the front wheels. Specific components and independent elastokinematics are also used on the rear axle. A particularly stiff camber link, in conjunction with M specific rubber bearings in all links as well as in the rear axle support, increases precision and agility, while specific stabilisers respond more directly due to their higher stiffness, significantly reducing body roll and increasing driving precision. M Servotronic steering with variable ratio The electromechanical M Servotronic steering with its specific drive arranged parallel to the axles also contributes to the typical M driving experience offered by the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition. It combines speed-dependent steering power assistance with a variable steering ratio. In every driving situation, M Servotronic provides the appropriate steering torque and enables both precise steering and sensitive transmission of steering wheel movements- whether for dynamic cornering, comfortable manoeuvring or parking at low speeds. The variable gear ratio is dependent on steering angle and supports supreme straight-line stability as well as spontaneous turn-in and high accuracy on bends. This makes the vehicle particularly easy to handle on winding roads. In addition, the driver has three steering curves at their disposal. COMFORT mode supports smooth direction changes. At the same time, the driver receives clear feedback. The latter is noticeably increased in SPORT mode, as are the steering forces. SPORT+ mode is designed for a particularly sporty steering feel, requiring even higher steering force and offering the highest possible level of road feedback. DSC driving stability control with M Dynamic Mode The driving stability control system DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) responds within a fraction of a second to changing conditions and road surfaces. In addition to making wheel-specific braking interventions and influencing the drive torque to stabilise the vehicle, it includes the antilock braking system (ABS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) as well as the brake assistant, dry brake function and start-up assistant. In M Dynamic Mode, the system allows additional wheel slip to generate the self-steering response that is typical of M, enabling controlled drift manoeuvres when used on the race track, for example. In addition, it is possible to activate DSC Off mode: here the M xDrive all-wheel drive system remains active for optimum distribution of drive torque between the front and rear axles. M compound brake system and 21-inch wheels as standard The performance characteristics of the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition are complemented by the high efficiency of the standard M compound brake system. With four-piston fixed caliper brakes at the front and single-piston floating caliper brakes at the rear, it guarantees excellent deceleration. The brake calipers bear the M logo and are finished in blue as standard or in high-gloss black or red on request. The perforated and internally vented discs have a diameter of 395 millimetres on the front wheels and 370 millimetres on the rear wheels. In the compound design adapted from motor racing, the grey cast iron brake discs are connected to aluminium covers. This design helps the brake system achieve precise dosing, low weight and increased thermal stability. The perfectly coordinated overall package for maximum performance also includes the 21-inch M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres in the sizes 255/40 ZR21 at the front and 265/40 ZR21 at the rear: in conjunction with the rear-wheel-oriented set-up of the M xDrive, this enables particularly intense transmission of lateral guidance forces during dynamic cornering. The new M forged wheel 892M Star Spoke in Jet Black burnished saves 2 kilograms of weight per wheel. As an alternative, the well-known M light alloy wheel 765M V-Spoke is likewise available in Jet Black burnished. Design The new BMW X3 M Competition and the new BMW X4 M Competition enter the second phase of their model cycle with an even more powerful look. Borrowing from the likewise updated BMW X3 and BMW X4, the two high-performance models now have an enlarged BMW kidney grille with what is now a single-piece frame as well as flatter front headlights. To this end, BMW M GmbH has given the M specific front apron of the two M models an even more expressive and striking design. The rear sections of the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition have also been redesigned. Along with a distinctive look, numerous model-specific design features geared to the functional requirements of a high-performance automobile underscore the performance-oriented character of the SAV and the SAC. Large openings in the front section ensure optimum feed of cooling air to the engine, transmission and brake system, while characteristic M design elements at the front, side and rear ensure optimised aerodynamics. In the particularly sporty yet luxurious interior with hallmark M design elements, one eye-catching feature is the new centre console. New BMW kidney grille and flatter headlights A striking eye-catcher at the front is the redesigned BMW kidney grille and also the headlights, which are around ten millimetres flatter. The BMW kidney grille is larger than before and now comprises a single-piece frame. A black bar bearing the iCam provides visual separation of the grille. The frame is finished in high-gloss black, as are the typical M double kidney bars. The radiator grille also features a vehicle-specific logo: X3 M or X4 M. The flatter front headlamps are adaptive LED headlamps with matrix function as standard, comprising newly designed, half-opened luminous tubes that echo the classic four-eye face as LED daytime running lights. In addition to the BMW Individual Shadow Line headlights with darkened inlays on the upper edges, the BMW Laser Light is now also available as an optional extra. Its dynamic laser light module amplifies the anti-dazzle high beam at speeds of over 60 km/h and follows the course of the road. The range of the high beam is increased to up to 650 metres. The light intensity of the very bright and powerful BMW laser light is also particularly high. As part of the dynamic light distribution and anti-dazzle BMW Selective Beam high beam, it also supports the low beam when driving on country roads and motorways. Newly designed front apron with striking air intakes The new, enlarged BMW M kidney grille now also extends downwards into the redesigned front apron. The central air intake below is flatter and wider. One particularly striking feature is the new, vertically arranged and elongated side air intakes: these are angled down towards the spoiler lip in a bend towards the centre of the vehicle, where they follow the hexagonal shape of the central air intake. They are framed by trim elements in high-gloss black. M specific details for improved aerodynamics The air breathers on the front side panels and the aerodynamically optimised M exterior mirrors benefit the reduction of air resistance. The exterior mirror caps and the characteristic M gills integrated in the air breathers are finished in high-gloss black. The BMW X3 M Competition features an M specific roof spoiler in body finish whose shape extends the lines of the side view into the powerful rear. A rear spoiler in highgloss black positioned on the luggage compartment lid rounds off the sporty look of the BMW X4 M Competition. In addition, the High-Performance-models are distinguished from the standard versions of the BMW X3 and BMW X4 by the colour scheme of their bodywork. Instead of black body tail-ends, the front and rear aprons, wheel arch surrounds and side sill edges are finished entirely in body colour. Additional individual accentuations can be added with the optional M Carbon exterior mirrors and, on the BMW X4 M Competition, a rear spoiler made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). Distinctive rear aprons in a new design The new BMW X3 M Competition features the redesigned full-LED-tail lights of the refreshed BMW X3. A black border gives the rear lights a more precise appearance, while the narrower light graphic now includes a three-dimensionally modelled pincer contour and horizontal turn signals integrated in filigree style. The emphasis on horizontal lines - for example in the concave area at the lower end of the tailgate - contributes to the tidy impression of the rear end, and the reflectors now sit vertically in the bumper. The lower section of the rear apron is M specific and finished in high-gloss black. The large diffuser is flanked on the right and left by the tailpipe pairs of the M sports exhaust system, which are finished in black chrome. The flat full LED rear lights on the BMW X4 M Competition emphasise the vehicle's width, protruding strikingly from the vehicle body in their three-dimensional design. The new rear apron of the BMW X4 M Competition features a wide, offset insert in the shape of an anvil. Like the lateral air-curtain-panels, which also accommodate the now vertical reflectors, this is finished in high-gloss black, ensuring a particularly powerful overall impression. The two pairs of tailpipes in black chrome also frame the diffuser on the BMW X4 M Competition. Five new paint finishes available A total of eight paint finishes are available for the new BMW X3 M Competition and the new BMW X4 M Competition as standard. In addition to M Carbon Black metallic and M Brooklyn Grey metallic, the two new paint finishes reserved exclusively for the M Competition models of the X3 and X4 series in Germany are M Marina Bay Blue metallic and M Sao Paulo Yellow. In addition, a wide range of BMW Individual paint finishes are available for the first time such as the matt finish Frozen Marina Bay Blue. M typical interior with new accents The BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition feature M sports seats with electrically adjustable headrests and illuminated M logo as standard. The enhanced Merino leather upholstery is available in black as well as in the Bicolor variants Sakhir Orange/Black, Adelaide Grey/Sakhir Orange and Midrand Beige/Black; the latter also features applications in Alcantara that cover the knee pads on the flanks of the centre console. The BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery in Tartufo is also available as an option for the M sports seats. The seat belts are visually enhanced with the BMW M stripes. The air vents have new galvanised trim, while the interior trim finishers now appear in Aluminium Rhombicle dark as standard. In addition to the M interior trim finishers in Carbon Fibre and the BMW Individual interior trim finishers in high-gloss Piano Black, trims in the new open-pore Ash variant are now also available as an option. The M leather steering wheel with multifunction features contrast stitching in the BMW M colours and an open 6 o'clock spoke. The backrest of the rear seat has a 40:20:40 split as standard and as an optional extra allows individual, multi-stage adjustment in its inclination via the cargo function. The standard load volume of 550 litres can be increased to up to 1,600 litres in the BMW X3 M Competition and from 525 litres to a maximum of 1,430 litres in the BMW X4 M Competition. The capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant are being expanded on an ongoing basis. With the digital companion activated by voice control or at the touch of a button, naturally spoken instructions can now be used to regulate the air conditioning, open and close the windows or change the driving experience switch modes, for instance. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant can also be used access the new News app - which enables passengers to have the latest news read out loud to them - and it can also learn routines that enhance both comfort and driving pleasure in certain situations. For example, the side window on the driver's can be automatically opened on arrival at a selected location defined via GPS-coordinates - such as a garage or car park entrance. The system also recognises whether it is being addressed by the driver or the front passenger and reacts accordingly - for example by adjusting the air conditioning on one side only. Remote Software Upgrade and BMW Drive Recorder BMW Operating System 7 now also includes Remote Software Upgrade. This means that the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition always remain up to date with the latest software. The upgrades can include content ranging from new services to improved vehicle functions and can be downloaded "over-the-air", either via the My BMW app on a smartphone or directly into the vehicle via the SIM card installed in it. It is also possible to integrate additional vehicle functions in the vehicle at a later date, such as the BMW Drive Recorder. The latter uses the cameras of the driver assistance systems to record video images around the vehicle; it can then be used to store these images so they can be played back on the Control Display while the vehicle is stationary or exported via the USB interface. On activation of the BMW Drive Recorder, videos lasting 40 seconds are recorded and saved. In the event of a collision, up to 20 seconds of footage from before and after the impact is automatically saved. New control island from the current BMW M3 and M4 models In addition to the control unit for the standard 3-zone automatic air conditioning, the control island on the centre console has also been redesigned. Originating from the current BMW M3 and M4 models, this includes two new buttons in addition to the specific M gear selector with Drivelogic rocker switch, the BMW Controller and the red engine start button, which is now positioned here. The set-up button provides direct access to all settings options for the engine and suspension: it is used to access a menu in the Control Display that lists the current vehicle settings. Two individually configured variants of the M set-up can be permanently stored and retrieved at any time using the two M buttons on the steering wheel. The M Mode button can be used to influence the activities of the driver assistance systems as well as the displays in the instrument cluster and in the Head-Up Display at the touch of a button, thereby enabling a driving experience to be created that is appropriate to the situation and typical of M in each case. The driver simply switches through the settings ROAD with fully activated driver assistance systems, SPORT, where the active driver assistance systems only transmit warnings about speed limits and no-passing zones, for example, and all interventions in the deceleration and steering systems are disabled with the exception of the collision warning with braking function and the avoidance manoeuvre assistant, and TRACK. This mode is designed exclusively for use on race tracks and deactivates all the comfort and safety functions of the driver assistance systems. Driving Assistant Professional available for the first time The new BMW X3 M Competition and the new BMW X4 M Competition come with all the modern driver assistance systems of the BMW X3 and BMW X4. In addition to Driving Assistant, which includes the lane change and lane departure warning function, rear cross-traffic alert and the traffic sign recognition function Speed Limit Info including No Passing Indicator, Driving Assistant Professional is available as an option for the first time. This includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go-function usable up to 210 km/h with improved functionality in city traffic, right-ofway warning, intersection warning with additional city brake function and the avoidance manoeuvre assistant, which now also reacts to pedestrians and cyclists. Other features include the emergency stop assistant, emergency lane assistant, steering/lane guidance assistant with extended functions, lane change assistant, lane keeping assistant with active side collision protection, automatic Speed Limit Assist, front cross-traffic alert and wrong way alert. The 3D environment visualisation in the instrument cluster provides an overview of which Driving Assistant Professional assistance systems are activated and what functions they offer. The optional Parking Assistant now includes the reverse assistant, which takes over steering when manoeuvring backwards along a 50-metre line that was last travelled forwards. Parking Assistant Plus uses Park View, Panorama View and 3D Top View to create a 360-degree-image of the vehicle and its surroundings. In addition, the driver can have a three-dimensional live image of their vehicle and its surroundings transmitted to their smartphone by means of Remote 3D View. Numerous comfort options available The new BMW X3 M Competition and the new BMW X4 M Competition offer numerous comfort options as standard or as optional extras. The M sports seats with their pronounced bucket seat character are heatable, electrically adjustable in many cases and can be fitted with active seat ventilation. A heated steering wheel and heated rear seats are available to go with the standard 3-zone automatic air conditioning. The range of ambient lighting functions has been expanded, while the Ambient Air package scents the interior and cleans the air by means of simultaneous ionisation. The tailgate can be opened and closed without touching using the comfort access function, and the BMW Display Key uses its 2.2-inch touch display to provide information on fuel level, range and service and maintenance due, as well as indicating whether windows and the optional sunroof are closed.
  3. Before I start with the series of photos, this latest X6 is super beng to me, 'cos it even come with Lighted Grille, YES, you read it correctly! Roughly a decade ago, BMW took the innovative step of blending the signature attributes of a Sports Activity Vehicle with the DNA of a classical coupe - and the all-new Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) class was born. The BMW X6 was the founder member of the new category and continues to combine extrovert presence with standout performance and an edgy design to this day. More than 443,000 units of the X6 have now been sold worldwide across two model generations. The crisply expressive design language of the third-generation BMW X6 underscores its confident, commanding and muscular appearance. The interplay of advanced powertrain & chassis technology and top-class equipment features delivers a uniquely sporting yet also very comfortable driving experience. Progress is likewise the name of the game with the extensive spread of innovative operating tech and driver assistance systems. The BMW X6 is produced at BMW Plant Spartanburg in the US state of South Carolina. This centre of expertise for BMW X models also handles production of the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5 and BMW X7. The new BMW X6 will celebrate its world premiere at the IAA 2019 in Frankfurt am Main. The market launch will follow in November 2019. Vehicle concept and design The new BMW X6 has grown by 26 millimetres in exterior length over the outgoing model (to 4,935 mm) and by 15 mm (to 2,004 mm) in width. It now stands 6 mm lower (at 1,696 mm) and combines dynamically stretched proportions with an extremely powerful appearance, which is enhanced by a wider front track (+44 mm to 1,684 mm). The car's wheelbase has increased by 42 mm to 2,975 millimetres, and the new model also has a lower centre of gravity than its predecessor, which helps to give the new BMW X6 its exceptional agility and handling poise. Premiere for illuminated BMW kidney grille The large, single-frame BMW kidney grille is the most striking feature of the front end. The outer edges of the kidney grille approach the headlights at a clearly defined angle. The new BMW X6 is available for the first time as an option with an illuminated BMW kidney grille, which adds an exclusive flourish to the exterior design. The illumination is activated by opening or closing the car, but the driver can switch it on and off manually too. This unique design element is also available during a journey, lending further lustre to the already head-turning appearance of the new BMW X6. The characteristic twin headlights extend up to the BMW kidney grille and emphasise the presence and width of the car. The new BMW X6 comes with LED headlights as standard. If the optional BMW Laserlight with Adaptive LED headlights is specified, a BMW Laserlight spotlight with Selective Beam optimises the non-dazzling high beam function, whose range increases to around 500 metres. This optional extra can be identified by the blue x-shaped elements which split up the hexagonal light sources inside the headlights. The flanks of the new X6 are defined by familiar BMW proportions, a crisply drawn character line and the dynamic roofline. Light-alloy wheels up to 22 inches in size can be found within the subtly hexagon-shaped wheel arches. The Air Breathers in body colour combine with the striking wheel arches to underline the exterior's dynamic looks. The rear of the new BMW X6 has an extremely athletic silhouette with powerful shoulders, which is further accentuated by the wide L-shaped LED rear lights. The tailgate is integrated seamlessly and therefore almost invisibly into the car's horizontal lines. The new BMW X6 is fitted as standard with 19-inch light-alloy wheels. Other wheel variants in 20-inch - 22-inch formats are available as an option. The BMW X6 M50i and BMW X6 M50d come with 21-inch light-alloy wheels as standard. Two model variants with distinctive design features The new BMW X6 is available from launch in xLine and M Sport model variants as an alternative to standard specification. The two equipment lines each have their own distinctive design cues. For example, xLine highlights the robustness of the new Sports Activity Coupe with the help of underguard protection elements (in body colour at the front and matt Black at the rear). Specific components in Pearl-effect Chrome - such as the air intakes, side grilles, side skirts with trim strips, Air Breather edging, air flaps and exhaust tailpipes - are also included in xLine cars. The fronts of the grille bars are likewise in Pearl-effect Chrome. The M Sport model brings a strikingly dynamic design angle to the front and rear aprons, and Adaptive M suspension, the side window graphic in High-gloss Black, wheel arch trim painted in body colour and M Sport brakes with blue-painted callipers also take their places in the M Sport package. Available as an option from 12/2019 are M carbon exterior mirror caps and a rear spoiler likewise in carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). High-quality options from BMW Individual can be added from launch to give the car an ultra-exclusive exterior look. These include special BMW Individual paint finishes and 22-inch BMW Individual lightalloy wheels. Extended BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line trim completes the BMW Individual offering. The M Sport exhaust system - fitted as standard on both M models and now also available as an option for the other versions of the BMW X6 and as part of the M Sport package - gives the car an unmistakable and emotionally rich aural presence. Interior and equipment The interior of the new BMW X6 is geared squarely to delivering an exclusive and dynamic driving experience. Clear structures lend the cabin a modern and sporty appearance. The design of the cockpit, complete with the new arrangement and design of the control elements, embodies a progressive re-interpretation of the driver focus for which BMW is renowned. Together with the raised seating position, this design approach gives the driver the best possible overview of the driving task and therefore enables them to deal with events on the road with consummate ease at all times. The interior boasts carefully selected materials and unbeatable build quality. The new BMW X6 comes as standard with Vernasca leather upholstery, while extended BMW Individual Merino leather trim is on the options list. The standard sports seats in the new BMW X6 are electrically adjustable and heated. Multifunction seats - with a choice of features such as seat ventilation and massage function for the driver and front passenger - can be specified as an option. The model-specific kneepads on the centre console now have a new design, and special door pulls are also included. The new BMW X6 offers a high degree of variability. The 40:20:40 split rear seat backrests can be folded down to increase boot capacity from 580 to 1,525 litres. Specific design for the M Sport and xLine variants The M Sport package and xLine specification employ specific design cues to imbue the interior of the new BMW X6 with a distinctive ambience. The M Sport package heightens the dynamically intense character of the new BMW X6 with an M Sport steering wheel and M-specific pedals. Exclusive Aluminium Tetragon interior trim strips and an anthracite BMW Individual headliner are also part of this package. Interior trim strips in M Carbon Fibre are available as an option. xLine specification includes a car key with chrome trim. The new BMW X6 can also be ordered with further exclusive options from BMW Individual which allow the interior to be tailored even more closely to the owner's personal style. One example of these is BMW Individual Merino leather trim, whose immaculate leather undergoes a sophisticated tanning process to ensure it is as supple as possible. Array of innovations help deliver a luxurious and exclusive driving experience Standard specification for the new BMW X6 includes 2.5-zone automatic climate control, while a four-zone system can be ordered as an option. Also available as an option is the Ambient Air package, which refreshes the air inside the car by ionisation and allows the driver to choose from eight selectable interior fragrances. Another innovation is the newly developed panoramic glass roof, whose clear surface is around 83 per cent larger than on the outgoing model. The optional Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge, meanwhile, brings a particularly exclusive ambience to the interior of the new BMW X6 during the hours of darkness. More than 15,000 graphic patterns in the glass roof are illuminated and generate a display reminiscent of a starlit sky. Six different colours are available for the illumination of the Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge. The BMW X6 comes as standard with ambient lighting, which includes the Welcome Light Carpet. This feature illuminates the approach to the doors when they are unlocked or opened, enhancing comfort and safety when getting in and out of the car. New BMW X6 customers can also select the optional thermoelectric cup holders, which are integrated into the front section of the centre console and keep drinks containers cool or warm, as desired. The new BMW X6 can be specified as an option with glass applications for selected controls, adding unique visual and haptic flourishes to the interior and heightening the level of individualisation. The glass applications are available for the transmission selector lever, the iDrive Controller, the start/stop button and the audio system's volume control. The optionally available Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System conjures an engrossing treat for the ears inside the new BMW X6. A seven-channel amplifier with 1,500-watt output and 20 speakers generates an impressive 3D audio experience in all seats. This sound system is unique worldwide in the automotive sector. The telephony with wireless charging option allows compatible mobile phones to be charged wirelessly in the tray positioned ahead of the cup holders. Powertrain and driving experience The line-up of engines available for the new BMW X6 from launch includes two petrol units and a pair of diesel variants from the latest generation. Topping the X6 range is a BMW M model: the BMW X6 M50i. This ultrasporty flagship, powered by a newly developed petrol V8, is joined by another BMW M family member in the shape of the BMW X6 M50d with six-cylinder in-line diesel engine and four turbochargers. Straight-six units also see action - in the BMW X6 xDrive40i and BMW X6 xDrive30d. All models come as standard with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, while BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive enhances dynamics and maximises traction both on the road and over loose ground. The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology for petrol engines consists of turbocharging, High Precision Injection direct fuel injection, VALVETRONIC fully variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing. The package of technology in the diesel units is made up of turbocharging and common-rail direct injection with piezo injectors. Exhaust gas treatment in the petrol models is courtesy of a gasoline particulate filter, which minimises particulate emissions. The diesel models employ BMW BluePerformance technology including a particulate filter, an oxidation catalyst, a NOx adsorption catalyst and an SCR catalyst with AdBlue injection to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. All variants of the new BMW X6 fulfil the requirements of the EU6d-TEMP emissions standard. BMW xDrive maximises traction, agility and directional stability in the new BMW X6, as in all BMW X models. In particularly dynamic driving situations, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system has a rear-wheel bias. In situations which do not require all-wheel drive, drive power can be channelled entirely to the rear wheels in the interests of efficiency. The car's sporting attributes are aided by the electronically controlled M differential lock at the rear axle available either individually as an option or as part of M Sport specification. It optimises the transfer of power in dynamic driving situations by limiting equalisation of the rotational speeds of the wheels on the inside and the outside of the bend, with the result that the new BMW X6 can power out of corners with exceptional élan. Added to which, the controlled locking function for the rear differential maximises traction and the ability of the X6 to put down its power on rough ground. A feature of the optional xOffroad package, it also optimises traction on roads where grip levels vary between the right and left rear wheels by preventing a wheel with insufficient grip from spinning. Access all areas: top-class dynamics, comfort and off-road ability A double-wishbone front axle and five-link rear axle give the suspension of the new BMW X6 the ideal tools to deliver dynamism and ride comfort on the road, plus unshakable traction off the beaten track. The Sports Activity Coupe comes as standard with Dynamic Damper Control. As well as improving the primary and secondary ride, the electronically controlled dampers also enhance the car's dynamic characteristics. The driver can use the Driving Experience Control switch to select either of two settings placing the emphasis on a sporting or comfort-biased driving experience. Indeed, the suspension systems in the new BMW X6 make it possible to boost its dynamic flair, comfort or off-road performance more intently and effectively than ever before. Adaptive M suspension Professional with active roll stabilisation and Integral Active Steering endows the car with exceptionally agile and dynamic driving qualities. The roll stabilisation system works using electric swivel motors and enables remarkably swift and precise compensation of body roll when powering through twists and turns. Not only does this facilitate agility and directional stability when turning into corners, it helps optimise traction when accelerating out the other side as well. The roll stabilisation system on the new BMW X6 also increases straight-line driving comfort by actively countering the vibrations triggered by bumps on one side of the road. The electromechanically operated Integral Active Steering is also available as an individual option. By turning the rear wheels in either the same direction as or the opposite direction to the fronts, depending on the road speed, it lends itself to more nimble cornering, effortless lane changes and darting through city traffic. Integral Active Steering makes light work of manoeuvring into and out of tight parking spots, while also increasing directional stability when overtaking at motorway speeds. The new BMW X6 is available with two-axle air suspension including automatic self-levelling. The suspension's air supply is controlled individually for each wheel using an electrically driven compressor with pressure reservoir, making it possible to balance out an unevenly loaded car. Thanks to the linkup with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, the vehicle load registered by the air suspension's sensors can also be factored into braking modulation. The car's height can be altered at the touch of a button in the cockpit and the driver can choose from five different modes. For example, the driver is also able to adjust the body's ground clearance for off-road driving to a maximum 40 millimetres above the standard setting. Another button lowers the car by 40 millimetres below the default height in preparation for loading or unloading items. The height of the X6 above the ground can therefore be varied through up to 80 millimetres, making it significantly easier to get in and out of the car and to load and unload items from the boot. The desired vehicle ride height can also be set with the engine switched off and using the optional BMW Display Key. The new BMW X6 is offered with an off-road package as an option. This can be identified by its rugged underguard elements at the front end. Available for all model variants with the exception of the BMW X6 M50i and BMW X6 M50d, the xOffroad package includes two-axle air suspension and an electronically controlled rear differential lock. The person at the wheel can choose from four modes specialising in driving over snow, sand, gravel or rocks respectively. At the press of a button, drivers can activate the ideal settings for the vehicle's ride height, the xDrive system, the transmission control and the DSC system's corrective inputs. Accelerator response also adapts to the driving mode selected. The new BMW X6 M50i A BMW M model represents the top rung of the third-generation BMW X6 model line-up at launch, its immense performance headlining the dynamic character of the new Sports Activity Coupe. The new BMW X6 M50i is powered by a comprehensively newly developed 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine with maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp. Linking up with the eightspeed Steptronic transmission and xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, the potent power delivery of the eight-cylinder unit ensures impressively sporty performance. The motor racing expertise amassed by BMW M GmbH is clearly evident in the driving characteristics of the new BMW X6 M50i, its handling a compelling concoction of exceptional steering precision, agility and stability. The eye-catching and emotionally engaging appearance of the BMW M model is underscored by bespoke flourishes in the body design, and the pronounced sporting character of the new BMW X6 M50i also shines through in its exclusive interior design. Muscular eight-cylinder engine with signature M power delivery and emotionally stirring soundtrack From crankcase to engine management, the engine under the bonnet of the new BMW X6 M50i has been the recipient of sweeping change. The V8 develops maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp from its 4.4-litre displacement between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm. Meanwhile, peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) is served up all the way from 1,800 to 4,600 rpm. The instantaneous and sustained serving of full power fits the performance profile for M engines like a glove. That an M power unit will be backed by a suitable aural accompaniment goes without saying. The flap-controlled M Sport exhaust system fitted as standard produces an exhilarating soundtrack to match the engine's prodigious power delivery. The eight-cylinder unit's standout features include the pair of twin-scroll turbochargers nestled in the 90-degree angle between the two banks of cylinders. The new BMW X6 M50i needs just 4.3 seconds to sprint from 0 - 100 km/h (62 mph). Its combined fuel consumption is 10.7 - 10.4 l/100 km (26.4 - 27.2 mpg imp) and combined CO2 emissions come in at 243 - 237 grams per kilometre. Like the BMW xDrive system, the eight-speed Steptronic transmission is tuned specifically to the performance attributes of the V8 engine. The new BMW X6 M50i is fitted as standard with an M Sport differential, ensuring the eight-cylinder engine's impressive power enjoys the smoothest possible transition into dynamic panache. Another technical highlight is the chassis technology - tailored specifically to this model by the BMW M GmbH engineers - which gives the new BMW X6 M50i exceptional agility and precisely controllable handling even when exploring the dynamic limits. A standard element of the chassis' toolkit is Adaptive M suspension, which includes Dynamic Damper Control and air suspension with automatic self-levelling at the rear axle. The electromechanical power steering of the new BMW X6 M50i has an Mspecific configuration and allows the driver to choose between two settings. The new BMW X6 M50i is fitted as standard with 21-inch M light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design. On the options list, meanwhile, are exclusive M Performance Styling 22-inch twin-spoke light-alloy wheels in Cerium Grey, which further accentuate the visual brawn of the new BMW X6 M50i. Body design with distinctive accents The exterior looks of the new BMW X6 M50i are shaped by aerodynamically optimised body components including a front apron with large air intakes and a rear apron with body-coloured diffuser insert. The BMW kidney grille, the horizontal trim elements in the air intakes and the exterior mirror caps are painted in Cerium Grey, and the model badge at the rear and exhaust tailpipes adopt the same colour. The new BMW X6 M50i comes as standard with black sports seats in Vernasca leather trim and an M Sport leather steering wheel. Needless to say, the illuminated kidney grille is also available as an option for the X6 M50i. Driver assistance systems An extensive selection of standard and optional driver assistance systems mark out the new BMW X6 as an exceptionally innovative Sports Activity Coupe. Fresh from the addition of myriad new functions, the systems enable an effective increase in comfort and safety. They ease the driver's workload in monotonous driving conditions, such as congestion and slow traffic, in particular. And the driver assistance systems in the new BMW X6 also provide the driver with effective assistance in complex driving situations in urban areas, minimising the risk of accident. These systems use camera images and the data gathered by radar and ultrasonic sensors to monitor the area around the car. Deployed as part of the BMW Personal Co-Pilot, the systems represent the latest innovations on the road to automated driving. Standard specification for the new BMW X6 includes Cruise Control with braking function. Another standard feature is the Collision and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking function, which also alerts the driver when a cyclist is detected. The Active Cruise Control system with Stop & Go function available as an option is capable of braking to a standstill then pulling away again automatically once the traffic situation allows. The maximum time that can pass between the car stopping and setting off again automatically is now 30 seconds, making the driver's life that extra bit more comfortable. The speed limits detected by the Speed Limit Info traffic sign recognition system including No Passing Info display can be incorporated into the system's automatic speed modulation, with a preset adjustment of up to 15 km/h (9 mph) possible, if required. Driving Assistant Professional provides a particularly far-reaching helping hand The Driving Assistant Professional is offered as an option for the new BMW X6. This complete package of safety- and comfort-enhancing tech includes both the steering and lane control assistant with Traffic jam assistant and lane keeping assistant with active side collision protection. With the steering and lane control assistant activated, the driver can make use of the Lane Change Assistant on motorways and dual carriageways. To initiate the lane change, the driver simply has to hold the indicator stalk in the required direction. If the system detects that there is space in the adjacent lane and that no other vehicle is approaching at high speed, the driver benefits from helpful steering assistance during the lane change. Another component of the Driving Assistant Professional is the Evasion Assistant (which now also reacts to pedestrians), rear collision warning, road priority warning and wrongway driving warning systems. The package also includes crossing traffic warning and Lane Change Warning, which in its latest version now also provides active steering inputs to bring the vehicle back into the intended lane. The Driving Assistant Professional also hands customers the benefits of the innovative Emergency Stop Assistant. In situations where the driver is, for medical reasons, no longer able to drive the car, the Emergency Stop Assistant can be activated by pulling the electric parking brake switch. Depending on the driving situation and the vehicle's surroundings, the Emergency Stop Assistant will bring the vehicle safely to a standstill either in the current lane, at the edge of the road or on the hard shoulder. Any necessary lane-change manoeuvres can be performed automatically when travelling at 70 - 100 km/h (43 - 62 mph). At the same time, the Emergency Stop Assistant activates the hazard warning lights and the Intelligent Emergency Call function automatically notifies a call centre so the emergency services can be alerted. Parking Assistant: all the help you need into and out of spaces The new BMW X6 adds further breadth to the functional range of numerous assistance systems offering effective parking and manoeuvring support. Standard specification includes active Park Distance Control (PDC) with sensors at both the front and rear. The Parking Assistant enables automatic selection of and manoeuvring into spaces parallel or perpendicular to the road. The system identifies suitable parking spots with the help of ultrasonic sensors as the vehicle drives past. Pressing the button on the centre console initiates the parking process, the Parking Assistant automatically executing the necessary steering inputs, acceleration, braking and gear changes. The Parking Assistant can also back the car automatically out of parallel parking spaces. The innovative reversing assistant, which helps the driver when exiting parking spaces and manoeuvring within a confined space, represents another step en route to automated driving. The system offers the extremely convenient option of automated reversing in multi-storey car parks or entrances to courtyards, for example. To do this, it first stores the steering movements for any section the car has just driven forward along. The system is then able to reverse the vehicle for distances of up to 50 metres by steering it along the same line it took when moving forward. All the driver has to do is operate the accelerator and brake pedals and monitor the area around the car, while the system takes care of steering. The reversing assistant is initiated by pressing a button when the vehicle is stationary and the gear selector is in the "P" position. The steering movements along the line the car has just taken when moving forward are stored for an extended period, so the reversing assistant can offer the driver the convenience of backing their car out of a parking space they drove into the day before. The rear view camera and numerous functions included in Parking Assistant Plus provide drivers with an excellent overview of the situation at hand. The Top View, Panorama View and 3D View features are used to create a 360° image of the vehicle and its surroundings in the Control Display. Meanwhile, the Remote 3D View function allows a threedimensional live image of the driver's vehicle and its immediate vicinity to be sent to their smartphone. Display and operating system, BMW Connected and ConnectedDrive The new BMW X6 comes as standard with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, an intelligent digital character who responds to the prompt "Hey BMW". The BMW Group is revolutionising driving pleasure with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and, in so doing, entering a new era in which drivers will increasingly be able to operate their car and access its functions and information simply by speaking. Added to which, the Intelligent Personal Assistant will also be at the driver's service outside the car - e.g. at home via smart speaker or out and about through their smartphone. The range of functions and skills available will be constantly expanded as part of updates, which can be carried out seamlessly on a smartphone and in-car by Remote Software Upgrade. Choose your name The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is there to help the driver. He learns routines and habits, and will be able to apply them in the appropriate context. He notes the driver's preferences and is familiar with their favoured settings - e.g. for the seat heating or the places they drive to frequently using the navigation system. And there is the option of giving him a personally selected name (such as "Charlie"). This is a unique feature over other digital assistants and lends him even greater individuality and personality. He is familiar with the vehicle's functions and is able to operate them as required. The Intelligent Personal Assistant awaits the driver's every command, is always there to assist them and even provides casual conversation. The assistant will benefit from constant technical upgrades and be able to recognise more and more of the driver's preferences and favoured settings. The Intelligent Personal Assistant takes further strides forward with every command given, every question asked and every setting selected. Digital BMW expert and ideal co-driver The arrival of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant ensures there is always a genuine BMW professional on board. He is able to explain all sorts of different functions, provide current information, and help answer questions. Plus, he knows the driver's favourite settings, and can combine and activate them. For instance, "Hey BMW, I feel tired" triggers a vitality programme that adjusts the lighting mood, music and temperature, among other things, in order to make the driver feel more awake. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is the ideal co-driver and comes in particularly useful during everyday driving. Indeed, he makes light work of navigation, finding parking spaces at the destination, providing information on traffic jams along the route and searching for cafés in the area if the driver so desires. The assistant's integration into Microsoft Office 365 and Skype for Business transforms the BMW X6 into a mobile office and enables him to join teleconferences at the driver's request. But BMW's Intelligent Personal Assistant is an entertainment expert, too. For example, he can quickly seek out suitable radio stations for the desired music genre. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is included as standard in the new BMW X6 - along with the Live Cockpit Professional - as part of the new BMW Operating System 7.0. The Live Cockpit Professional is included for the first three years. The Connected Package Professional adds a spread of additional functions. BMW Operating System 7.0: geared to the driver's needs The BMW Live Cockpit Professional in the new BMW X6 combines a new display and operating concept with unbeatable connectivity. It includes a high-resolution instrument cluster behind the steering wheel with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches and a likewise 12.3-inch Control Display. This BMW Live Cockpit Professional also features an adaptive navigation system and a hard-drive-based multimedia system with 20 GB of storage. Two USB ports plus Bluetooth and WiFi interfaces are also present and correct. The driver can be automatically detected and personal settings activated either using the vehicle key or BMW Digital Key. The user can also be selected via the Control Display by entering the correct PIN. The car's built-in SIM card provides unrestricted connectivity. The intelligent connectivity of the new BMW X6 gives the driver access to vehicle apps such as news, weather, office and online search and allows the navigation system's maps to be updated regularly. It also enables use of Intelligent Emergency Call, which automatically summons swift assistance in an emergency. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional and BMW Operating System 7.0 team up in the new BMW X6. The latest generation of the display and operating system offers fully digital displays and is geared even more closely to the driver's personal needs - with the aim of maximising their attention levels. The system's clear presentation and structuring are designed to provide drivers with the right information at the right time, aided further by the customisable and personalised content. The upgraded graphics in the instrument cluster now leave enough room for an excerpt from the navigation map, for instance. In the main menu on the Control Display, the driver is able to create and configure up to ten pages, each showing two to four pads (tiles) with live content. The intuitive multimodal interaction between driver and vehicle has also undergone further improvement. Depending on the situation, the driver can choose from the familiar iDrive Controller, the steering wheel controls, the Control Display's touch control, voice control and BMW gesture control. BMW offers a bundle of digital services in the form of the Connected Package Professional. This makes it easier for customers to select particularly attractive digital services, either when ordering their new BMW X6 or further down the line. 4. 2019 BMW X7 (G07) xDrive401i BMW has pulled back the covers on a new definition of automotive luxury. The BMW X7 blends lavish presence, exclusivity and spaciousness with the versatile and agile driving properties customers would expect from a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). The latest and largest model in the BMW X line-up uses its outstanding powertrain and chassis technology, plus generous levels of space in each of its three rows of seats, a luxurious ambience and advanced equipment features, to deliver an unparalleled driving and interior experience. BMW's new design language brings the modern elegance characteristic of the brand's luxury-segment models to the exterior of the BMW X7, and adds visual poise, assurance and an overriding sense of authority. The new BMW X7 represents the next stage in the premium carmaker's ongoing model offensive in the luxury segment. Its increased presence in the class and the systematic expansion of the BMW X model portfolio are among the key areas the BMW Group has identified - as part of its NUMBER ONE > NEXT strategy - to ensure sustained growth in the world's car markets in the future. The new BMW X7 will be built at BMW Plant Spartanburg in the US state of South Carolina. This centre of expertise for BMW X models also handles production of the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5 and BMW X6. The worldwide market launch of the new BMW X7 will begin in March 2019. A new measure of authority, luxury and modernity The expansive exterior dimensions of the new BMW X7 take luxury to a new level. At 5,151 millimetres in length, 2,000 millimetres wide and 1,805 millimetres tall, and with a wheelbase of 3,105 millimetres, the X7 displays harmonious proportions and establishes itself very clearly as the new head of the BMW X model family. The high-impact presence of the new BMW X7 is underscored by its upright front end, while the chrome elements that ring the car and accentuate its unique character also influence its distinctive appearance. A new use of forms, dominated by clearly structured surfaces and precise lines, lends the BMW X7 its modern and progressive aura. The largest kidney grille ever designed for one of the brand's models bestrides the front end of the new BMW X7. Together with the slim twin headlights extending up to the grille, it emphasises the width of the car and creates an inimitable presence. The new BMW X7 comes as standard with LED headlights, while BMW Laserlight with Adaptive LED Headlights can be specified as an option. This system employs a BMW Laserlight spotlight with Selective Beam to optimise the high beam function, and as a result the range of the non-dazzling high beam has been increased to a maximum 600 metres. Blue x-shaped elements, which split up the hexagonal light sources inside the familiar BMW twin headlights, make a distinctive visual statement. On cars with standard specification, the wide lower air intake is given extra structure by a horizontal chrome bar. The Design Pure Excellence equipment line brings a three-dimensional version of the bar that turns upwards at its outer edges. Integrated discreetly into front apron on either side of the aluminium underguard are slim LED front foglamps. Another model-specific feature is the particularly large BMW roundel on the bonnet. When viewed from the side, the large windows and long, dynamically flowing roofline of the new BMW X7 hint at a spacious interior bathed in light. The rear doors are longer than the front doors, emphasising the spaciousness of the SAV's rear compartment and making it even easier to get in and out. Clearly structured surfaces and the eye-catching character line rising up to the rear end are hallmarks of the brand's new design language. The versatile functionality of the new BMW X7 is highlighted by its ample ground clearance and optional roof rails. Among the car's elegance- and exclusivity-enhancing features are chrome trim strips around the door sills - which extend up to the Air Breathers and are continued in the rear apron - and the rounded contouring of the fully body-coloured wheel arches, which house light-alloy wheels in formats up to 22 inches. The sizeable dimensions of the new BMW X7 are also expressed at the rear end, which is broken up by horizontal lines and bordered by vertical separating edges. The slim LED rear lights provide a clear segmentation of the rear. Bridging the space between the two units is a chrome bar - a design cue only previously encountered at the rear of the BMW 7 Series luxury sedan. The classy exhaust tailpipe embellishers and the underguard positioned between them on Design Pure Excellence cars provide further touches of exclusiveness. The new BMW X7 is fitted as standard with 20-inch light-alloy wheels. The selection of light-alloy wheels available on the options list includes 21- and 22-inch variants. Design Pure Excellence, M Sport package and exclusive options from BMW Individual The Design Pure Excellence equipment line, the M Sport package and exclusive BMW Individual options offer scope for customers to tailor the standard specification of their new BMW X7 to their personal style. With grille bars in Aluminium matt and an array of accents in High-gloss Chrome, plus 21-inch light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design, Design Pure Excellence underlines the rich elegance of the new SAV model. The M Sport package showcases the dynamic potential of the new X7 with extra-large air intakes, 21-inch light-alloy wheels in M twin-spoke design and a distinctive look for the front apron, rear apron and side skirts. Its sporting aura is accentuated by additional design elements in High-gloss Black or Black Chrome, the latter a shade reserved for BMW's luxury-class models. Trim elements in High-gloss Chrome can be specified as an option. And classy options from BMW Individual are also available from the launch of the X7. Among the items lending the car's exterior design an even more rarefied air of exclusivity, meanwhile, are the BMW Individual paint finish Sunstone metallic and 22-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels. Interior and equipment The impressive open expanses of the BMW X7 interior bring a fresh sensation of space to the luxury segment. The three rows of seats treat the driver and passengers to an exceptional feeling of roominess within the X7's elegantly appointed surrounds. Expansive surfaces and clear structures give the instrument panel a modern look and its lines flow smoothly into the door panels. Large trim surfaces framed with electroplated accent trips on the instrument panel and centre console enhance the interior's elegant and exclusive aura, and the BMW X7 comes as standard with a sports leather steering wheel. The newly designed display grouping which comes as part of the standard-fitted BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes a Control Display and a fully-digital instrument cluster - each with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches - and teams up with the classily designed control panel on the centre console to create a progressive re-interpretation of BMW's customary driver focus. Grouped together clearly in the centre console are the iDrive Controller, the transmission's newly designed gear selector, the start/stop button, the Driving Experience Control switch controls, the button for the electric parking brake and the buttons governing the settings for the air suspension and optional off-road modes. The control panel for the heating and air conditioning system also has a modern design. And the light functions in the BMW X7 are likewise operated using buttons. High-quality glass applications for selected controls are available as an option. This exclusive, visually and haptically appealing design feature is used for the gear selector, the start/stop button, the Controller and the audio system's volume control. Three rows of seats as standard, two individual seats for the second row are optional The roominess and versatility of the interior are underlined by the standard fitment of three rows of seats (offering space for seven people in total) on board the new BMW X7. The two passengers in the third row can settle into full-size seats that are also capable of accommodating adult passengers over longer journeys. Comfort levels here are enhanced by an additional glass roof element, cupholders and armrests integrated into the side panel trim. The second row includes three seats as standard in a conventional rear seat bench configuration. Alternatively, two extremely comfortable individual seats can be specified for the middle row as an option. These are comfort seats and offer the same functionality as the seats for the driver and front passenger when it comes to seating position adjustment. The individual seats for the second row also feature integrated armrests and comfort cushions. Two second-row seats with a space between them represent a first for an SAV and create an exceptionally luxurious ambience in the rear compartment. The gap between the individual seats also provides an access route to the third row. In both standard and optional configuration, the second-row seats in the X7 can slide longitudinally through 14.5 centimetres (seven-seater). Adjustment of the fore/aft position - like all other seat positions and backrest angles - is electric for the first, second and third row of seats. The backrests of the seats in the second and third rows also fold down and back up again electrically. The buttons for this functionality are located on the driver's side as you enter through the rear doors, and in the boot. And the seats in the second row can also be tilted forward fully to make getting in and out as easy as possible for third-row passengers. The second-row seats can be returned to their upright position at the touch of a button, at which point child seats can be fixed in place extremely securely and easily using the ISOFIX attachments. The fore/aft position of the second-row seats is adjusted using a control panel integrated into the driver's door. Drivers of the new BMW X7 can also slide both their own seat and the front-passenger's backwards and forwards at the touch of a button located nearby. This allows the driver to increase both legroom and ease of entry/exit for the passengers in the second and third row of seats, as required. Additional buttons for seat and backrest adjustment are located in the rear doors. The backrests of the second- and third-row seats can also be folded down and back up again - and the second-row seats moved fore and aft - from the boot. When all six/seven seats are in use, the new BMW X7 offers 326 litres of load capacity. This increases to a maximum 2,120 litres when the backrests of the seats in the second and third rows are folded down. The standard air suspension allows the car to be lowered (at the touch of a button in the boot) to make loading easier. The new BMW X7 features a two-section split tailgate, both elements of which have electric opening and closing as standard. If the optional Comfort Access is specified, the tailgate opens and closes automatically and hands-free. The standard Vernasca leather trim and optional BMW Individual extended Merino leather trim are both available in six colour variants. The sports seats for the driver and front passenger are heated and can be ordered with a ventilation function as an option. The seats in the second and third rows are also heated, while the front row can be specified with optional multifunction seats with massage function. Standard three-part panoramic glass roof and large-surface windows flood the interior with light The standard electrically-operated panoramic glass roof teams up with large-surface windows to help give the interior of the new BMW X7 a light and airy feel. In addition to its front and central glass elements, the panoramic roof also features an additional section to the rear. As a result, passengers in the third row can also enjoy the feeling of space enhanced by the light flooding into the interior. The front, central and rear glass elements all have an electrically sliding headliner, which is activated from a control panel in the front section of the roof to provide the desired shade. If the optional electric sun blinds for the windows in the rear doors are specified, the rear passengers also gain a button for operating the headliner. The rear section of the headliner can be operated from the third row of seats using a separate button. The Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge, meanwhile, generates a very special and exclusive aura when darkness falls, with LED light spreading evenly across the glass surfaces to illuminate more than 15,000 graphic patterns and generate a display reminiscent of a starlit sky. The colour scheme of this atmospheric light show can be adapted as desired. Climate control, interior lighting and entertainment lay on a luxurious driving experience Standard specification for the new BMW X7 also includes four-zone automatic climate control. A five-zone automatic climate control system with separate control panel and additional air vents for the third row of seats can be ordered as an option. The likewise optional Ambient Air package enables air ionisation and infuses the interior with eight individually selectable scents. A "thermo" version of the cupholders arranged foremost in the centre console can be specified as an option to keep their containers cool or warm as required. The telephony with wireless charging option allows compatible mobile phones to be topped up wirelessly in the tray ahead of the cupholders. The likewise standard ambient lighting, with its precise LED contour lighting for the instrument panel, centre console and door trim, enhances the generous feeling of space during the hours of darkness. Customers can create their preferred light mood by selecting from six colour tones and a variety of settings via the iDrive control system. The ambient lighting system includes the Welcome Light Carpet - which illuminates the entry area to the car when the doors are unlocked or opened - and Dynamic Interior Light, which emits pulsating light signals in pre-defined situations. These signals appear on the inner panelling of an open door when the engine is running and on the instrument panel in response to an incoming phone call. With its ten speakers, the standard-fitted hi-fi speaker system already treats the driver and passengers inside the new BMW X7 to impressive audio richness. However, the optional Harman Kardon surround sound system with 16 speakers provides an even more intense musical feast for the ears. And the optional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with 20 speakers and 1,500-watt amplifier lays on a particularly sumptuous listening experience. A digital seven-channel amplifier and additional sound sources in the roof area generate an absorbingly clear and multi-layered 3D sound experience for people in all seats. The likewise optional Rear-seat entertainment Professional system comprises a pair of 10.2-inch full-HD touchscreen displays, a Blu-ray-compatible DVD player, two USB ports, an HDMI socket and two headphone jacks. Another two USB ports are provided for the third row of seats. The system works using the BMW Operating System 7.0 display and control system, and so allows those in the rear of the vehicle to select and operate entertainment functions. The rear-seat passengers can use both their own media sources and those available in the front compartment. A navigation map and BMW ConnectedDrive services can also be accessed in the rear seats. Design Pure Excellence and M Sport package with bespoke interior elements The Design Pure Excellence equipment line and the M Sport package also create a distinctive ambience inside the new BMW X7 with their special design features. Striking contrast stitching on the seat surfaces, trim elements in the colours of M GmbH and specific design variations for the illuminated door sill plates set the two equipment lines apart from standard specification. The M Sport package also includes an M Sport steering wheel, a BMW Individual headliner in anthracite-coloured Alcantara, M-specific detailing for the pedals, driver's footrest and seat piping, plus exclusive interior trim strips. Specially selected options from BMW Individual can also be specified from the launch of the new BMW X7 to tailor its design to the owner's individual style. Customers can choose from either BMW Individual extended Merino leather trim or bi-colour BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in Ivory White/Midnight Blue. And two particularly classy BMW Individual fine wood interior trim strips are also available. Powertrain and driving experience With its powerful engines, BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and newly developed, precisely tuned chassis technology, the BMW X7 boasts a blend of dynamism, poise and versatility that is unrivalled in the luxury segment. The largest representative of the BMW X family sticks to the proven formula of off-road prowess combined with excellent ride comfort and agile on-road handling for which the brand's Sports Activity Vehicles are renowned. The line-up of engines available at launch comprises a newly developed petrol V8 in the BMW X7 xDrive50i (not available in Europe), a six-cylinder in-line petrol unit for the BMW X7 xDrive40i and a pair of six-cylinder in-line diesels to power the BMW X7 xDrive30d and BMW X7 M50d M Performance model. The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology for the petrol engines comprises turbocharging, High Precision Injection, VALVETRONIC fully variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable camshaft control. On the diesel side, the raft of technological measures includes turbochargers and common-rail direct injection with piezo injectors. All the engines channel their power via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The system of emission control for the petrol engines includes a gasoline particulate filter that minimises particulate emissions, while the diesel models boast BMW BluePerformance technology comprising a particulate filter, an oxidation catalyst, a NOx adsorption catalyst, and an SCR catalyst with AdBlue injection to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. Thus equipped, all model variants of the new BMW X7 meet the requirements of the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard. Smooth and fast: the eight-speed Steptronic transmission All the engines available for the new BMW X7 team up with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, the most recent incarnation of which boasts a wider gear ratio spread and new control electronics. This reduces engine speeds, particularly in higher gears, which in turn helps to increase the drive system's overall efficiency. The eight-speed Steptronic transmission is fitted with a new generation of torsion dampers to limit rotational irregularities in the powertrain. The result is enhanced ride comfort and smoother gear changes. Comfort is given a further boost by reduced converter slip, while the optimised hydraulic control enables even sportier shifting. Precise power distribution: xDrive all-wheel drive with efficiency-enhanced control and electronically controlled rear differential lock The task of maximising traction, agility and handling stability in the new BMW X7 again falls to the latest generation of the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system, which now varies how the drive torque is split between the front and rear wheels with greater precision than ever for the situation at hand. The electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system links up with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) to provide the basis for effortless, sure-footed handling, whatever the road and weather conditions. For added efficiency, full drive power can be directed to the rear wheels in situations where all-wheel drive is surplus to requirements. The xDrive system also maintains a rear-biased set-up when the car's dynamic performance abilities are being put to the test, ensuring customers enjoy the signature BMW driving experience. An M Sport differential is fitted as standard on the BMW X7 M50d and in conjunction with the Off-Road package on the BMW X7 xDrive50i, to complement the powertrain's sporting characteristics. This electronically controlled rear differential lock also hooks up with the DSC system. It works by limiting the equalisation of the rotational speeds of the wheels on the inside and the outside of the bend and thus optimises the transfer of power to the road in dynamic driving situations. As a result, any tendency to understeer when powering through corners can be countered effectively. The M Sport differential deliberately shifts drive power - which cannot be transferred to the road by the unloaded wheel on the inside of the bend, as it is likely to slip - to the wheel on the outside of the bend (instead of applying to brakes to neutralise its effect). The locking effect - produced by an electric motor - draws the BMW X7 into the bend with infectious élan. The increase in power finding its way onto the road also makes a notable difference when exiting corners, as the optimised distribution of power allows the car to accelerate out of the bend again with particular verve. By preventing a wheel from spinning when it is struggling for purchase, the M Sport differential also improves traction and power transfer on loose ground or road surfaces offering differing levels of grip for the left and right rear wheels. Perfectly tuned chassis technology for comfort, agility and off-road performance The chassis technology of the new BMW X7 is perfectly in tune with its specific vehicle concept and its masterful powertrain technology. Its design principle, based on a double-wishbone front axle and a five-link rear axle, ticks all the right boxes when it comes to providing both luxurious ride comfort and the customary agility of BMW vehicles. The new BMW X7 M50d comes as standard with the M Sport differential, 21-inch M light-alloy wheels and a model-specific chassis set-up. These features sharpen the car's agility and steering precision, giving it the unmistakable character of an M Performance model, but redefined for the luxury segment. Ride comfort in the new BMW X7 is further enhanced by its two-axle air suspension with automatic self-levelling, which is also included as standard. The suspension's air supply is controlled individually for each wheel using a remarkably quiet, electrically driven compressor with pressure reservoir, making it possible to balance out an unevenly loaded car. Thanks to the link-up with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, the vehicle load registered by the air suspension sensors can also be factored into braking modulation. When SPORT driving mode is engaged or the car's speed exceeds 138 km/h (86 mph), the ride height is automatically lowered by 20 millimetres. The driver is also able to adjust the body's ground clearance - for off-road driving, for example - by pushing a button in the cockpit to raise it in two stages to a maximum 40 millimetres above the standard setting. Another button in the luggage compartment activates a loading mode that lowers the car by 40 millimetres. The next time the engine is started, the system will automatically revert to the last mode selected. The desired vehicle ride height can also be set with the engine switched off. This can be done using the buttons in the car or the optional BMW Display Key. Integral Active Steering is available as an option for the new BMW X7. By turning the rear wheels in either the same or the opposite direction as the front ones, depending on the road speed, it lends itself to more nimble cornering, effortless lane changes and darting through city traffic. Integral Active Steering therefore makes light work of manoeuvring into and out of tight parking spots, while also increasing stability when overtaking at motorway speeds. For supremely assured yet also dynamic handling abilities, there is the Executive Drive Pro option, which adds active roll stabilisation. This system of roll stabilisation employs electric swivel motors and enables remarkably swift and precise compensation of body roll when powering through corners. Not only does this facilitate agility and handling stability when turning into corners, it helps optimise traction when accelerating out the other side. The system has the additional effect of increasing straight-line driving comfort by actively countering the vibrations triggered by bumps on one side of the road. Available for all model variants apart from the BMW X7 M50d, the Off-Road package can be immediately identified by its rugged underguard elements. The Off-Road package also features its own special graphics in the instrument cluster and Control Display, as well as an extra button on the centre console for selecting four driving modes. These allow the car's set-up to be adjusted in a variety of ways with the help of the standard two-axle air suspension. With xSnow, xSand, xGravel and xRocks modes at their disposal, drivers can activate the ideal settings for the vehicle's ride height, the xDrive system, accelerator response, transmission control and the DSC system's corrective inputs in preparation for the surface in question. Driver assistance systems The progressive luxury epitomised by the new BMW X7 is further underlined by the comprehensive, market-specific array of driver assistance systems available for enhancing comfort and safety. These cutting-edge systems process camera images together with the data gathered by radar sensors, and are able to help drivers extremely effectively in a variety of situations. They ease the driver's workload in monotonous driving conditions, such as traffic jams and heavy flowing traffic, and make it easier to stay in complete control in awkward traffic situations. In a nutshell, these systems mark the latest advances on the road to automated driving. The BMW X7 comes as standard with Cruise Control with braking function, as well as the Collision and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking function, which also now alerts the driver when a cyclist is detected. The optional Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function is capable of braking the car to a halt then setting it back on its way automatically. To make the driver's life easier in stop-start traffic, the maximum length of time the car can wait before pulling away again automatically after it has come to a halt is 30 seconds. The speed limits detected by the Speed Limit Info traffic sign recognition system including No Passing Info display can be incorporated into the system's automatic speed modulation, with a preset adjustment of up to 15 km/h (9 mph). The complete safety and comfort package: Driving Assistant Professional The optional Driving Assistant Professional offers extensive assistance to make driving as safe and as comfortable as possible. This comprehensive package includes the Steering and lane control assistant including Traffic Jam Assist, as well as the Lane Keeping Assistant with active side collision protection. This feature uses road markings and vehicles driving ahead as a means of orientation and works together with the driver to help keep the vehicle in the detected lane. The Steering and lane control assistant is even able to lend a hand with guiding the vehicle through narrow channels, such as those encountered in areas where there are roadworks. The system's hands-on-wheel detection is very sensitive and recognises contact even when only a few fingers briefly touch the wheel. The cockpit also has a built-in interior camera (due to become available in Europe from April 2019) that monitors the position of the driver's head to determine whether they are still paying attention to what's happening on the road. Assuming they are, the length of time without any hand contact on the steering wheel can be extended to a maximum of 60 seconds. The Lane Change Assistant can be used on motorways and dual carriageways whenever the Steering and lane control assistant is active. To initiate the lane change, the driver simply has to hold the indicator stalk in the required direction. If the sensors detect that there is space in the adjacent lane and that no other vehicle is approaching at high speed, the driver benefits from helpful steering assistance during the lane change. Another component of the system is the evasion aid, which can help avoid collisions with vehicles or pedestrians suddenly appearing in the driver's path. As soon as an evasive manoeuvre corresponding to such a scenario is detected, the system helps the driver direct the vehicle into a clear adjacent lane with steering inputs. The wealth of assistance systems contained in the Driving Assistant Professional's suite of features also comprises Crossing traffic warning, which reduces the risk of a collision when manoeuvring forwards or in reverse towards crossing traffic where visibility is restricted. Rear Collision warning, Priority warning, Wrong-way warning and Lane Change Warning also form part of the Driving Assistant Professional package. The latest version of Lane Departure Warning now includes active steering inputs to bring the vehicle back into the intended lane. Active help when it's needed: Emergency Stop Assistant Another Driving Assistant Professional feature is the Emergency Stop Assistant (not available in Europe). Intended to be used in situations where the driver is suddenly incapacitated because of a medical emergency, it is activated by pulling the electric parking brake switch. Depending on the driving situation and the vehicle's surroundings, the Emergency Stop Assistant will bring the vehicle to a standstill either in the current lane, at the edge of the road or on the hard shoulder. Any necessary lane-change manoeuvres can be performed automatically when travelling at 70 - 100 km/h (43 - 62 mph). At the same time, the hazard warning lights are activated and the Intelligent Emergency Call function automatically notifies a call centre so the emergency services can be alerted. For parking and manoeuvring with the greatest of ease: Parking Assistant Plus with Reversing Assistant The new BMW X7 is equipped as standard with Park Distance Control (PDC) including sensors at both the front and rear of the vehicle. The Parking Assistant (also standard) is capable of automatically selecting and manoeuvring into spaces parallel to the road. The system takes care of acceleration and braking, steering and any gear changes necessary. The rear view camera is designed to afford drivers an excellent all-round view, as are the Top View, Panorama View and 3D View functions included in the optional Parking Assistant Plus. These work together to create a 360° image of the vehicle and the surrounding area on the Control Display. The Remote 3D View function additionally gives drivers the ability to call up a three-dimensional live image of their vehicle and its immediate vicinity on their smartphone. A further illustration of BMW's ongoing progress towards automated driving is provided by the Reversing Assistant. When leaving a parking space or manoeuvring in a confined area, this function offers a level of assistance as yet unmatched by any other manufacturer. The Reversing Assistant forms part of the standard Parking Assistant and offers the highly convenient facility of automated reversing in confined spaces or situations where the driver does not have a clear view, such as multi-storey car parks or entrances to courtyards. To do this, it stores the steering movements for any section the car just drove forward along at a speed of no more than 36 km/h (22 mph). The system is initiated by pressing a button when the vehicle is stationary and the gear selector is in the "P" position. The system is then able to reverse the vehicle for distances of up to 50 metres by steering it along exactly the same line it took when moving forward; all the driver has to do is operate the accelerator and brake pedals and monitor the surrounding area. The car can be backed up in this way at speeds of up to 9 km/h (5.5 mph). The steering movements made during the vehicle's last forward manoeuvre are stored by the system and retained, even for longer periods. This means the Reversing Assistant can be used to manoeuvre the new BMW X7 backwards out of a parking position that it drove into forwards the preceding day, for example. Display and operating system, BMW Connected and ConnectedDrive Standard specification for the new BMW X7 includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, an intelligent, digital helper that responds to the prompt "Hey BMW". From March 2019 it will be an integral element of the control and operating system / customers will be able to add it to their vehicle by Remote Software Upgrade. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant represents a revolution in driving pleasure from the BMW Group; it marks the start of a new era in which drivers will increasingly be able to operate their car, access its functions and obtain information simply by speaking. Updates that can be carried out seamlessly on a smartphone and in-car by Remote Software Upgrade will ensure the range of functions and capabilities on offer are continuously expanded. BMWs acquire a digital personality The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant learns routines and habits, and is subsequently able to apply them in the appropriate context. He helps the driver, learns their preferences and is familiar with the settings they like to have for the seat heating, for example, or the places they navigate to frequently ("Take me home"). One unique feature compared with other digital assistants of this type is the option of giving him a personally selected name (such as "Charlie") to lend him even greater individuality and personality. Not only does the assistant await the driver's every command, he's always there to assist them and even provide casual conversation. He is familiar with the vehicle's functions and is able to operate them as required. Saying "Hey BMW, I'm cold" will prompt the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant to adjust the temperature inside the car accordingly. Ongoing improvement of the technology will enable him to learn more and more preferences and favourite settings in future. The assistant gets better and better with every command given, every question asked and every setting made. Always on board: the digital BMW expert The arrival of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant ensures there is always a genuine BMW professional on board. He is able to explain all sorts of different functions ("How does the High Beam Assistant work?"), provide current status information ("Is the oil level okay?") and help answer questions ("What warning messages do I have?"). He knows the driver's favourite settings, and can even activate a combination of them to enhance well-being. For instance, "Hey BMW, I feel tired" triggers a vitality programme that adjusts the lighting mood, music and temperature, among other things, in order to make the driver feel more awake. The perfect co-driver He is, in short, the ideal co-driver and comes in particularly useful during everyday driving ("Hey BMW, how far can I drive before I need to refuel?"). Navigation can now be made simpler than ever, as the assistant will find somewhere to park at the journey's destination, provide information on any traffic jams along the route and remind the driver when it is time to set off. He also learns destinations the customer drives to frequently. The assistant's integration with Microsoft Office 365 and Skype for Business transforms the BMW X7 into a voice-controlled mobile office and enables him to join teleconferences at the driver's request. In-car experiences: wellness and relaxation while on the move The Intelligent Personal Assistant even attends to the driver's sense of well-being with his Caring Car function. This includes vitality and relaxation programmes, which activate a carefully orchestrated combination of various functions - such as the air conditioning, seat massage, fragrancing or music - to refresh or relax the driver while they are at the wheel. There is also a choice of four in-car experiences geared perfectly to suit the driver's current mood: Executive, Expressive, Private and Wellbeing. Each of the different modes caters to the driver's needs by adjusting the lighting, air conditioning, fragrancing, seat massage, degree of shade, seat heating or seat ventilation accordingly. Quite apart from reducing stress and fatigue, this active enhancement of the driver's sense of comfort also has the effect of increasing road safety. The desired programme can be started with the help of the personal assistant by saying "Hey BMW, I'm tired" or "Hey BMW, activate Executive mode". Turning passengers into co-drivers The new BMW X7 also lets passengers in the front and rear mould the driving experience in ways they have never done before. With the driver's consent, they are able to connect their smartphone to the car using the Connected Command function and then use it to control selected functions. This converts the passengers into co-drivers able to ease the driver's workload by checking out the journey's route via BMW Connected, for example, or adjusting the on-board entertainment programme and climate control settings. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant forms part of the standard specification in the new BMW X7, together with the Live Cockpit Professional and new BMW Operating System 7.0, and is included free of charge for the first three years. The scope of functions can be extended with the Connected Package Professional. BMW Digital Key: turning the smartphone into a car key The BMW Digital Key employs Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to allow the new BMW X7 to be locked and unlocked from a smartphone, dispensing with the need for a conventional car key. Holding the smartphone up to the door handle opens the car. Once inside, the engine can be started as soon as the phone has been placed in the wireless charging or smartphone tray. Accessible via BMW Connected, the Digital Key offers unrivalled flexibility, as the driver can share it with up to five other people. The BMW Digital Key is available for all NFC-capable Samsung Galaxy smartphones running Android 8.0 or higher. Alternatively, customers can use the BMW Key Card. This sophisticated option also features NFC technology and so offers the same functionality as a suitably equipped smartphone. Connected Navigation with new digital services "Connected Navigation" encompasses a number of digital services that are designed to turn seamless and contextual route planning both inside and outside the BMW into an even more sophisticated experience. In future, drivers of the new BMW X7 will be able to send destinations from various apps straight to their car's navigation system. The key destinations will be stored in BMW Connected and synchronised with the car, so that the most important addresses can be accessed from any device at any time. One particularly helpful new feature is the Parking Space Assistant, which proposes various parking options to the driver in good time before the destination is reached. This service includes providing information on the nearest multi-storey car park as well as proposing routes offering a particularly good chance of finding a parking spot close to the destination. To help create the new Parking Space Assistant, the existing On-Street Parking Information and ParkNow services have been intelligently incorporated into its scope of functions. Exactly the right information at just the right time: the BMW Operating System 7.0 display and control concept The newly designed screen grouping comprising the instrument cluster and Control Display, together with the inclusion of new functions, enables intuitive operation to be taken to the next level in the new BMW X7, while helping drivers to concentrate even more effectively on the road ahead. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional fitted as standard comprises a fully digital, high-resolution information display behind the steering wheel and a Control Display, which each have a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches. This package of equipment also features an adaptive navigation system and a hard-drive-based multimedia system with 20 GB of memory. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional brings BMW Operating System 7.0 to the new BMW X7. The operating system's most recent incarnation boasts all-digital displays and is geared even more closely to the driver's personal needs - with the aim of maximising their attention levels. The system's clear presentation and structuring are designed to provide drivers with the right information at the right time, aided further by the customisable and personalised content. The redesigned information display in the centre of the instrument cluster now leaves enough room for an excerpt from the navigation map, for instance. In the main menu on the Control Display, the driver is able to create and individually configure up to ten pages, each showing two to four pads (tiles) with live content. Both the content and the graphics are personalised to an even greater degree, as illustrated by the vehicle mock-up that matches the actual model colour and equipment line. The intuitive multimodal interaction between driver and vehicle benefits from further improvement. The Control Display graphics adapt depending on the operating method, the voice control system based on natural language understanding is better than ever and the optional gesture control now includes two extra gestures, bringing the total to seven. Depending on the situation, the driver can choose from the familiar iDrive Controller, the steering wheel controls, touch control, voice control or gesture control. The Live Cockpit Professional is the key to being able to book digital services with total flexibility, as it means new or existing services can be added at any time. In future, BMW customers will be able to download additional digital services at a later date from the ConnectedDrive Store and install them in their car via Remote Software Upgrade. Services can be booked in this way for periods of three months, one year or three years. Always up to date: Remote Software Upgrade The Remote Software Upgrade feature keeps the new BMW X7 right up to date with the latest software. All updates can be imported over the air, either on a smartphone via BMW Connected or directly into the car using its built-in SIM card. Installation is every bit as simple as a smartphone update. The content of the upgrades can vary, from quality enhancements and new software services to improved vehicle functions.

  6. Mr Ashton, BMW X4 G02 Introduced by his friend who have done their ride with us. He wanted to revamp his ride and make it more sporty and energetic. Our team recommend a full trim set for a start. He also decided on a bonnet and front lip for exterior. Everything was proceeded for custom order. After a week, he texted us again and decided to change his steering wheel too as he saw that we have done lots of designs. He managed to secure a design he wanted. We told him we will do our best to get both the trim set and steering wheel to come in together for installation to save him time and hassle to make multiple trips to us. As he will be away for a short trip, he planned to leave his ride with us for installation so that he can collect it when he is back. Our factory team did their best to meet the dateline set and with much effort, we made it on time. He was glad that we are able to accommodate and meet his dateline set. He will be back for the exterior make over, stay tuned! 8. Hi all, I seldom post a lot and am currently looking to change my ride. I'd like to seek opinions from bros and automotive aficionados here on the above mentioned 3 models of SUV. I know all 3 are rather different in terms of branding or engine power or even comfort levels, but due to my limited knowledge on the available SUVs in this price range 300k+/-, these are the 3 that I can think of. I'm torn between these 3 for my next purchase and would like to find out more the pros and cons of the above 3. Am currently driving an Audi so thinking of changing to something fresh too. Would like to seek some opinions and reviews from bros here especially those who own the above 3 makes to share a little more into it. And also to find out which would be a better buy. Thanks in advance, and looking forward to your reviews and advise, cheers!

  19. yeah, that is my guess as well, which is about SGD$15-25K above standard GLC SUV, also depends on the "standard equipment" - whether they want to bring in AMG LINE as standard, 21 inch, etc. (maybe throw in some additional standard features, lane assist / blind spot) again, pricing also depends on market conditions, - aka main and only "competitor" is BMW X4 (in terms of SUV COUPE) base model from $234K (correct as of 1st June - SGCARMART) mid model - $273K (vs BMW X3 - 260K) like what I said earlier, if C&C want to increase market share (Number 1 Luxury Brand or Most SUV) and "flood" the market with MB SUV, best way is through "competitive" pricing Cheers!

  21. not in the initial launch, but in the future, if there is "strong sales numbers" for GLC ....I am 99.99% a smaller engine BHP, eg GLC 200 will eventually will be sold in many countries (SG included) due to two reasons, 1) small engine cars are hot cakes in SG (esp C&C) , number of GLA 180 sold here is so many times more than GLA 200, 250, AMG combined 2) if their main competitors, Audi Q5 ( 180bhp, 350Nm) is offering at lower price range, C&C / Mercs will match it ... (BMW X4/X5 has not lower their specs), so once BMW X4/X5 also have similar specs to Audi Q5 ... even more reason for Silver Star to launch smaller engine ps: I am using C200 as benchmark - 181bhp, 300Nm (specs taken from sgcarmart) there is literally no reason why Mercs cannot put the same C200 engine into GLC 200 .... C200 is using a 1991CC engine 2 cents thought
