  1. I agree, my family used to own a renault megane (early 2000s) and also citroen DS4 (2014). Tried to sell the megane a couple of times thru it's 10 years with us, but due to the massively low price regardless we sell direct or go dealer/trade-in. Eventually we gave up and kept it till scrap. Same case with the DS4, I remember even some dealers don't even want to take in. lol. We're lucky the renault is actually quite reliable. Other than wear and tear, drove it till 10 years with 200K on the odo with only constant issue with power windows. The citroen, not so 😅
  2. With EV going mainstream in the next few years, the automotive industry is going through a hard "reset", so will the once viewed as problematic French manufacturer turn the tide while riding on the next wave? Let see... Straddling between crossover and chunky hatchback territory, this electrified Mégane E-Tech is a less glorified production version of last year’s Mégane eVision concept study. If you find the outline kind of familiar, it is because it bear similar proportions to the new Nissan Ariya Electric Crossover, which it shares the same CMF-EV platform and electric powertrain. The Mégane E-Tech Electric will initially be offered with 40kW and 60kW battery packs, with the latter providing a maximum driving range of 470 km in the WLTP test cycle. That’s about +20km more than what Renault had initially communicated when it also mentioned that the electric engine on the front axle produces 215 hp. Renault has not revealed if the range-topping powertrain from the all-wheel drive Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE which pumps out an impressive 389 hp and 600 Nm of torque working together with a larger 90kW battery to deliver up to 580km range and a 0-100km/h timing of 5.1 seconds will be available in the future. As usual, stay tuned for more information. The car will be officially unveiled on Monday (European time) at the 2021 Munich Motor Show.
  3. At a quick glance, I thought that was a Peugeot... Another SUV-nised product in the automotive scene. The fifth generation Renault Scenic has been revealed as an all-electric people mover bearing the E-Tech badge and sitting on the same CMF-EV platform as the Renault Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya European compact EVs. Set to be built at Renault’s Douai ElectricCity Factory, the all-new Scenic E-Tech will reach dealerships on the Old Continent at the beginning of next year with a choice of two zero-emissions powertrains, both powered by LG nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries. The Standard range version comes with a front-mounted electric motor that makes 125 kilowatts (170 horsepower) and 280 Newton-meters of torque and draws juice from a 60-kilowatt-hour battery pack that can offer over 420 kilometers of driving range (in the WLTP cycle). DC fast charging can be done at up to 130 kW, the 0 to 100 kilometerper hour sprint is achieved in 9.3 seconds, and the top speed is 150 kilometers per hour for this trim. The High range Scenic E-Tech comes with a more potent motor that makes 160 kW (220 hp) and 300 NM of torque, all while receiving electrons from a bigger, 87 kWh pack that enables an estimated range of over 620 km on the WLTP cycle. DC fast charging is possible at up to 150 kW in this case, the sprint to 100 kmph takes 8.4 seconds, while the top speed is 170 kph. With this being said, both variants can be charged on AC power at up to 22 kW.

    Renault Megane

Helping my friend to post .. he currently driving the 1.6 Golf - http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...393&DL=1000 .. thinking of changing car .. he is interested in the Renault Megane. any comments/reviews ? Below are some of the cars he found .. Tis wan got higher COE, declared 6 airbags http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...116&DL=1191 Not sure why tis wan only 2 airbags, was there ever an option for the additional curtain airbags? COE oso lower, younger by 6mth, rd tax just paid, and mileage is a mere 30k kms(but then again u guys said mileage can be tampered). http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...264&DL=1000 New is going at 56k but seems like OMV beli low, dunoe due to what... Preferably looking for the Estate/Tourer version with the chrome roof rails, but seems like only one avail on sgarmart, and seems not so neat, details oso nvr declare much, and asking for quite hefty sum... http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...656&DL=1000 thanks in advance ...
  5. Dear Seniors, I will like to ask if any of you are driving this particular model, as I have been experiencing it gearbox problems. A couple of time while in the jam, the panel will display a red message warning me that the Auto gearbox over heated. Did went and told the service staff at Wearners, which they told me that this car is using dual clutch. In a traffic jam situation, it will be advisable that i put it to neutral to prevent it from overheating, as the clutch system well keep on engaging while stationary during the jam. The other problem that i am experiencing is that at times, after starting the engine and move on, i will experience jerking or the gears not changing by itself and will keep dragging the gear when i accelerate. Suppose to move from 3 to 4th gears, the gear will just stuck at 3rd. Feedback to the service staffs before during routine servicing, they told me sometimes it is the on board computer system error, which I will need to stop the car, cut off the engine and wait for a few seconds before restarting the engine again and the problem will go away. This morning such problem happen again while i was on ECP. As i am not able to stop the car in the middle of expressway, therefore, I stop it after reaching the traffic light near Bugis. But before that I switch the gear system to manual while on the expressway. I was on 4th gear and try to swift the gear up as i moved faster, but the gear just skip 5th and go straight to 6th gear. Same thing when lowering the gear. I will skip 5th gear and move straight to 4th while i was on the 6th. My concern now is that as this car is coming 3 years old. Should I get the gear box change while it is still under warranty? Please advise. thanks. P.S: I am a normal driver whom don't play with manual gear as I used automatic gear since this is a daily car. When i do reversing, I will wait for a second or 2 before swifting from D drive to R.
  6. Consumers May Have Been Misled on Plug-In Hybrid Efficiency https://jalopnik.com/consumers-may-have-been-misled-on-plug-in-hybrid-effici-1850095950 New studies show plug-in hybrids emissions tend to be higher than advertised and electric mileage tends to be much lower when used in real-world conditions. By Owen Bellwood Published Friday 10 Feb 2023 5:30PM If you’re in the market for a new car and feel like you’d like to dip your toe into electrification then you might have considered a plug-in hybrid at one time or another. These cars combine the simplicity of a gas-powered car with the fuel savings of an EV, it’s a win-win, right? Well, that might not actually be the case, as a new report in Europe suggests plug-ins might not be the climate fix we once thought. On the surface, many plug-in hybrids promise mile after mile of emission-free driving thanks to their onboard batteries and electric motors. Then, once the electricity runs out, they switch over to an efficient gas motor to keep you going on longer journeys. Cars like the Kia Sorento and BMW 300e previously convinced me that such a setup could be perfect. But, a new report out of Europe suggests that they might not be the miracle midpoint between gas cars and EVs once thought. In fact, these kinds of cars could pollute “more than claimed” in city centers and on commutes. According to Transport & Environment, testing of three plug-in hybrid models widely available in Europe found that they pollute significantly more than claimed on city and commuter routes. It followed a similar study from the same site two years ago that found the same was true of PHEVs running longer routes as well. The site reports: “Three recent PHEV models, a BMW 3 Series, Peugeot 308 and Renault Megane, emitted more CO2 than advertised when tested on the road even when starting with a full battery. The BMW polluted three times its official rating when driven on a typical commuter route, according to the tests by Graz University of Technology, commissioned by T&E. “The Peugeot 308 and Renault Megane plug-in hybrids performed better but still polluted 20% and 70% more than claimed, respectively, despite the relatively short round-trip distance covered (55km).” In a commuter setting, the BMW tested was rated as producing 36 grams of CO2 per km (I refuse to convert this to ounces per foot, or whatever the American equivalent would be), but actually produced 112 grams in testing. The Renault was rated at 30 g/km but produced 50 g/km and the Peugeot was the closest to its rating with 33 g/km emitted compared to 27 g/km. Things were equally alarming when it came to measuring the electric range of the three models tested. According to T&E, only the Renault managed to hit its advertised all-electric range of 30 miles, while the BMW covered 74 percent of its 22 miles of electric range. The Peugeot fared the worst, reaching just over half of its supposed 37-mile range. Photo: Peugeot The Peugeot 308 should cover 37 miles on battery power alone. Obviously, you can’t take the poor results for these three cars and say this means that every plug-in hybrid model on sale today is worse than advertised. But, for the three cars tested to consistently perform below their ratings is concerning, especially as the whole attraction of buying a PHEV is to cut down your carbon emissions. So what does a study like this actually mean? Well, in the case of the three cars tested it means that automakers need to devise better means of calculating their emissions and electrical ranges if they want to be honest with consumers. According to T&E, it also means that such vehicles are being taxed incorrectly in Europe. The site claims that the emissions of the models tested were so unacceptable that these cars should be taxed based on their “actual pollution” and no longer be subsidies across the European Union. As it stands, PHEV buyers may qualify for up to €6,750 towards their purchase in certain markets.
  7. This looks very 3 series. If only it drives like one, it wuld be perfect.
  8. Looks like the hot Hatch category getting interesting next Year You Have the Renault RS which is zero to 100 in about 5.7 to 6 sec New engine. Not as ricey as the Civic and tamer. Functional Diffuser. 4 Wheel Steering, which may not be everyone's liking. Hopefully, they nail it this time round. Its downsize to 1.8T instead of 2.0 T so I suspect no replacement for displacement means the 150 to 200 kmh range will be slower on the straight. Comes stock at 280 bhp while GTi is 235 bhp. vs Civic 308 bhp. Let see what kind of prices. If the number falls in the 145 to 155 K range, probably have very good takeup rate.
  9. The outgoing final range of petrol Megane still has a plastic front end.
  10. The megane early 2005 model were also made of plastic

  12. The latest 4ws I believe would be the Renault megane for the Rs n even for the 1.6t and base on a side topic. The fly by wire steering is only available on the infinity Q50
  13. Yo bros and sis, I'm planning to change to a conti ride and was crossed between a Renault Megane 1.6(A) or a VW Jetta 1.6(A). Any experience and comments for these cars? I owned a Renault 5 before but that was donkey years back. I should say this car has lotsa problems. Everyweek squat at the workshop waiting for it to be repaired. Has Renault improved over the years? Thanks!
  14. Edmond changed his daily drive from Merc E to Model Y RWD after extensive back to back testing. He has another toys, Renault Megane R
  15. While that might be true, maybe i'm a little more lucky. I used to have a renault megane, which did not have water pump failure or any major components failure in it's entire 10 years life (200K on odo when scrapped). I used to own a GLA too, which at 7 years, suffered no major equipment failure other than the front drive shaft making some sound. No water pump failure too. Conti and jap cannot just be compared on reliability alone.
  16. hi all, as above. need first-hand comments on maintenance and performance. pm me if too private to share? Thanks all
  17. It is the Etg. Having experienced one, it's an acquired taste, and it's not newbie-friendly. For bro @Fcw75 not all French are made equal. I doubt I will ever be interested in any Renault except for the Grand Scenic (let's not talk about the Mégane RS or the Alpine 110) , while the Stellantis ones are interesting (but of course, caveats). Got poisoned by the new 2008 after testing it for a cash card with $ in it 😂. If you want a new Renault, buy a Nissan. Your wallet will thank you.
  18. His previous daily driver was Merc E. His weekend drive is Megane RS
  19. My family used to own a renault megane 2, bought brand new and drove till scrap, over 200K KM on the odo, other than wear and tear parts, only the power windows keep failing. A very reliable car i would say. Also, looking at the renault laguna taxis and scenics as PHVs, i think it sort of attest to the reliability of renault vs Citroen/Peugeot cars. Had the unfortunate chance to own a citroen DS4 and it was a highly unreliable and badly engineered piece of crap.
  20. Renault engine is for the 1.6L diesel engine used in the current generation A class. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_OM608_engine For your M282 1.33L petrol. It's made in Thuringa, Germany. If the M282 can be referred to a renault engine, then it can also be referred to a GTR or EVO engine. It is a jointly developed engine by Nissan, Renault Mitsubishi alliance + Daimler. For those who bother to research, there is indeed a technology used in the GTR that is applied into the M282. Btw, my family used to have a renault megane of which i've drove till scrap with 200K KM on the odo. No engine leaks or malfunction or anything. Solid as a rock. The engine I had problem with was my previous Citroen DS4 1.6L "Prince" engine, also the same engine used in the entry BMW 3 series and mini. It started to give me problem with cylinder 3 misfiring on the 4th year with a mileage of less than 60K KM.

  22. Renault Megane R26 2.0M have seen yellow and white ones around before but first time seeing a red one!
  23. awesome review by Pocus.... few years back i was tempted by FXT as well, but ended up with a Renault Megane. which was a very good car honestly speaking, lots of features for an entry level car, French styling which i like very much. but same as the rest, i was eventually seduced by the power and drive of the RS. Here are some of my feedback comparing RS to my previous Megane. - missed the auto key lock feature of Megane. previously when i walk near the car, it will blink twice to let me know that the car has been unlocked. when i walk away, it will blink twice and autolock. is the autolock feature present in RS? I tried reading the manual but it's so chunky full of information lol. - the under thigh support is much better in Megane. seems like the seat is shorter in RS and i do get a bit of fatigue after a long drive (never notice this during the short test drive). i'm quite tall at around 1.8m so might be that as well. no matter how i adjust the seat, still cannot get a comfortable position for a long drive. anyone has this issue as well? - the boot of RS opens real high, some of the car parks got pipes at the back of the lot and i hit them a few times. also no one can close the boot now except for me lol, cos it's too high and heavy. - proximity sensor of Megane is more detailed as it will show on the screen exactly how close you are to the obstacle via colour coding, and which section of the car you need to take note of. RS just beeps and tells you to check? i'm quite reliant on this because my home carpark ramp is really narrow so it helps, now just have to agar agar. still running in now, so not much comments on the drive yet. also a quick shoutout to AriesGoat who's my SE. i actually tested a lot of Skoda cars and he was really patient with me the whole time even though i told him right from the start that i was just looking around and not really looking to change. I tried Kodiaq at first because it's a 7 seater and will come in handy for my family but found it to be a bit too big (home carpark ramp narrow) and a bit too bulky in its drive. then i tested RS which i loved immediately but SO couldn't take the drive in Sports mode. then i went on to Superb which SO wasn't too impressed. so eventually went back to RS. and this was over a span of a few months lol.
