  1. Means those people who bought their China EV now no problems liao and can be as good as Tesla?! No wonder China EV is getting so common and popular now, esp BYD. Even LTA has buy BYD for public buses.
  2. I remember back then people were laughing at japanese cars, calling them milo tins, the hyundai stellar crappy when one needed to step accelerator to "activate" the power steering. Look at where Hyundai and Kia are now. Now everyone is raving about Kia EV6. I think the real established ones like SAIC and BYD are going to stay/evolve. For other non car manufacturers converted to one, I personally would be a bystander for a while more. I will also look at their other non car products as a gauge of their stand to quality and reliabilty. I can't just buy, use and throw for cars.
  3. So now BYD means Bulldoze Your Direction..😅
  4. Judging by current trend..... " the honda civic must he racing with the BYD...." 😛
  5. Agree. Just look at tesla ceo and byd ceo.
  6. They have to when the local “indigenous” are more competitive like BYD /Xpeng/Nio than Tesla …… maybe Apple had foresight and stayed clear
  7. Officially unveiled at the Vantage Automotive Centre, the Atto 3 debuts as BYD's first-ever contender in the local compact crossover segment. Coincidentally, the SUV also marks the third passenger-car model by the Chinese maker here, following in the footsteps of the best-selling e6 and van-turned-MPV M3e. A single permanent magnet synchronous motor, paired to a 60.5 kWh Blade Battery, helps to produce 201bhp (150kW) and 310Nm of torque - apparently good for a 7.3 second century sprint. With the Blade Battery, the crossover's NEDC-rated range also clocks in at an impressive figure of 480km. Thanks to its battery architecture, DC fast charging via CCS at up to 80kW is offered on the Atto 3, bringing the battery from 20% to 80% state-of-charge within 42 minutes. AC charging at up to 6.6kW, on the other hand, will see a full recharge done in 9.5 hours. Worth noting is that the Atto 3 falls under the A1 band of the VES, allowing it to qualify for the highest ARF rebate of $25,000. The Atto 3 comes with a refreshing dual-tone interior, mixing blue and beige upholstery (in our eyes at least - the combination is called "Eclipse Blue + Hazy Grey" by BYD) with red-stitching on the seats. Shaped contours across the dash, guzheng-inspired strings along the door bins, and disc-like aircon vents all continue to distinguish the cabin of the crossover. While the driver gets a fully digital five-inch display behind the multi-function steering wheel, taking centerstage is the 12.8-inch Intelligent Rotating Infotainment Display, which can be oriented in either 'portrait' or 'landscape' mode. Another high-tech feature the car offers is the ability to be unlocked and locked via an NFC Keycard. Strangely, it appears that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will only be available in Q4, although Bluetooth Phone Connectivity does come as standard. A BYD OS App will also debut somewhere down the line. The marque's name is spelt out boldly in capital letters too on the car's electrically-operated tailgate, which opens up to 440 litres of boot space (this can be expanded to 1,340 litres with 60:40 folding seats). Five different colours are available for potential owners of the Atto 3, including Surf Blue and Parkour Red. Test drives for the BYD Atto 3 are now being offered and the car open for booking. Local authorised dealer E-Auto has also announced that the car will launch with a special price of $178,888 (the number is supposed to be auspicious), inclusive of COE. Feature Highlights Wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto Wireless Smartphone Charging Inbuilt Navigation Electric Tailgate Sunroof Driver and Passenger Electric Seats 12.8" Intelligent Rotating Touchscreen 360° View Camera Adaptive Cruise Control Lane Keep Assist Lane Departure Warning Blind Spot Monitor Rear Cross Traffic Alert Front and Rear Pre-collision Warning Had the opportunity to visit Vantage before the Atto 3's official launch and I must say I left the showroom impressed with the direction BYD is going with its electric vehicles. Granted, the interior styling might be a bit tacky for some, but it is mighty packed with features. Full specs and features here.
  8. But don't know if BYD quality is good since it is a China car. Even though the design of the BYD cars indeed not bad.
  9. Last I read already cross the 100k order mark, how true will have to wait and see. But even if only half delivered is also very impressive liao Although it was supposed to be priced higher, but forced to match competition because of the price war in china, I personally don't think it will be price double of the BYD here. Maybe 10% higher, but won't be double, the Xiaomi branding is not worth $300k yet. The BYD seal is selling at about $200k including COE, so if you say double the selling price, I assume you meant $400k? But we have the COE factor, so if you remove the $100k COE, the car price at $300k over the $100k of the BYD? Not going to happen. At $400k that's very close to the cheapest Taycan, who wants a Xiaomi? I think competitive pricing will be about 10-15% over the BYD seal excluding COE, so maybe about $210k-$220k there about at $100k COE. That also depends on how bad is the price war down the road. I mentioned before, buy EV forget about the resale value, you must ask yourself are you prepared to scarp the car in as early as 2-3 years, if not don't buy, because new ones will be cheaper and better, and nobody will want a used EV. If still thinking of depreciation and resale value, don't touch a full EV, go hybrid.
  10. Business so good for BYD and Toyota. Seems like many people signed up for non G COE package. Maybe want to try their luck and yet not in hurry to get a car.
  11. Quite a number who booked BYD and Toyota during January Motor Show didn't secure their COE after 6 bids. They have been asked to top up and are rejoining the queue for COE in today's bid.
  12. Your post got me thinking. The Japanese and German auto giants used to over engineer their cars, designing and manufacturing parts that were made to last. With cost cutting years ago, especially at premium German names, that engineering culture is somewhat gone. Ok, even the Jap are losing it, except maybe Lexus. While drivetrain (engine, transmission, driveshaft, axles, and differential) are generally pretty durable, ICE cars these days after a few years will face the inevitable leaks, water and firm pump, aircon (compressor, cooling coil) failures, etc. With less parts, EV should have much less maintenance but I wonder if the new players like BYD and Tesla will engineer / design their cars with longevity in minds. I doubt it but I have read some Tesla reviews that it is relatively maintenance free for years due to lesser point of failure and less heat (generally) but the suspension are reportedly problematic. Happy to hear thoughts.
  13. Then good to know their quality has improved cause if i were to buy an EV, likely would consider the BYD. 😂
  14. In thing for some to owned. The built quality is like any other American car... sooooooo so. One of my younger colleague is a fan of it although he did not own one. Till recently he saw a BYD Seal in a road show, then he comments the Seal look much better and interiors built quality is a lot better. Even it is from China.
  15. Expect more China EV brand to hit our shore in the next 2 years, as the big wave have just started. Ultimately, only the fittest will survive on our tiny island (since we have a fixed quota for new car registration each month/year). Another point to ponder: Is PA changing their game plan (betting heavily on Chinese EVs) with the declining market share of Audi? Chinese EV brand Xpeng to be launched in Singapore by second half of 2024 Xpeng, a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brand backed by German carmaker Volkswagen, will be launched in Singapore by the second half of 2024. Sources with close knowledge of the negotiations said the EV maker appointed Premium Automobiles as its distributor recently. This will be the second Chinese EV brand that Premium is representing, after Zeekr from Geely. The first Xpeng model to retail in Singapore is expected to be the G6, a sport utility vehicle that is about the same size as the Tesla Model Y. This is likely to include a single motor version capable of covering 580km on a single charge. Premium Automobiles did not respond to queries on Xpeng when approached for comment. The dealership, which is also the retail partner of German car brand Audi, would say only that Zeekr remains on track to be launched here by the third quarter of 2024. The Straits Times has also contacted Xpeng for comment. Xpeng’s impending foray into Singapore comes as the EV adoption rate here rises. In 2023, EVs made up 18.1 per cent of total car registrations, up from 11.7 per cent in 2022 and 3.8 per cent in 2021. The Chinese brand is regarded by industry experts as among the strongest contenders against Tesla, although it delivered just 141,600 units in 2023 – a fraction of the 1.08 million units managed by the American EV brand. It sells left-hand drive models in China, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. On March 11, the South China Morning Post reported that Xpeng plans to launch right-hand drive models in the second half of 2024 as part of its global expansion strategy. Volkswagen holds a 5 per cent stake in the company from Guangzhou, China, and the companies are working to develop two VW-branded models for the Chinese market. Automotive consultant Say Kwee Neng said Xpeng is one of three Chinese EV brands – the other two being Nio and Li Auto – that are well regarded for their products’ technology, design and level of sophistication. “There is a lot of hype behind these three brands, but ultimately, it will be down to the representative in Singapore to bring in the right model mix and be relevant. We have already seen how BYD has broken down walls to make Chinese EVs desirable to consumers here,” Mr Say added. Chinese EV brand BYD was the fourth-biggest selling brand in Singapore in 2023, outselling the likes of Nissan (fifth), Hyundai (seventh) and Tesla (ninth). Xpeng joins at least five other Chinese brands that are slated to enter the Singapore market, including GAC Aion, which will be launched in April by Vincar. Their addition will more than double the number of Chinese car brands from the four in 2023 – BYD, MG, Maxus and Ora. Mr Say believes that Chinese EV brands are hastening their move into Singapore to build up global credibility as they try to break into European markets. Automotive analysts expect EV sales in China to grow at a slower pace in 2024, even as domestic EV brands and Tesla have been cutting prices to boost demand. This slowdown in demand is pushing Chinese EV brands to look abroad for sales, some industry insiders believe. The other Chinese EV brands slated to launch here are Smart, which Cycle & Carriage will roll out in the first half of 2024; Chery, which is represented by Vertex Automobile; Seres, which is imported by Hong Seh; and Neta, which Vincar has the rights to distribute.
  16. With battery tech improving by leaps and bounds, prices getting cheaper..... Why buy now? 😅 BYD is launching its next-gen Blade EV battery soon with more range and even lower cost https://electrek.co/2024/04/08/byd-launch-next-gen-ev-battery-more-range-lower-price/
  17. BYD Seal 06 reportedly to be 1st model with next-gen DM-i tech with over 2,000 km range https://cnevpost.com/2024/04/08/byd-seal-06-to-be-1st-with-next-gen-dm-i-tech-report/
  18. Alot is myth or unbalance comparision. For example if u compare Nissan leaf with with or vezel. If not mistaken all around 1.5t. I dun believe leaf got much worst tyre wear rate compare to the other 2. I dun own ev so I cannot say. But my dealing with commercial EV. BYD VAN 16' tyres. 195 width. 50k+. No rotate. China tyre. Rear tyres still 80%. Front tyres also haven't finish can last at least another 10-20k Nv200 diesel. Tyre 14' 175 width. 30-40k no rotate. China tyre. Front confirm botak. I would say the wear roughly same. Byd seal weight about 2.2t. 5 series weight about 2t. Seal tyres wear will be much worst then 5 series? I dun think so.? But of course if u compare a seal as a normal sedan car and compare it to a altis etc or compare a Tesla to a civic and say EV burn tyres. What can I say😂 Does a atto 3 wear tyres much faster then say a X5? Or do we compare a atto 3 to a wish? EV have been out for ages. Even BMW make EV earier then BYD? why now suddenly the west raise the white flag on EV. then suddenly so many such news come out🤔. For so many years I never see any similar report. Of course if every 1 drive their high end EV like going to F1. Confirm plus chop u gonna burn tyres fast. I test Tesla high end. Model Y. High power dun mean u cannot drive and pick up at traffic light gently. Of course. My 2 cents nia. ( some of the report on EV burn tyres is really 夸张。 machiam every 10-20k need change tyre. If like that u think think super niao prc will buy or not?)😂😂😂
  19. https://thedriven.io/2022/03/15/byd-seal-atto-4-electric-sportscar-to-rival-tesla-model-3-confirmed-for-australia/amp/ China doing what they do best, copying According to the source, this can do 0-100 in 3.9 s
  20. Don't know. Same like tesla, byd and other EVs. Having worked with lithium and other rechargeable batteries a lot, I know that heat is a problem for these batteries. Anything also will overheat How they will fare in our hot weather here in the long-term is yet to be seen.
  21. No get the price list. But BYD booth many people looking at the atto3.
  22. If you are refering to scrap value, which is the amount you get back after 10 years. Most of the cheaper EVs (BYD) will have around $0 to <5k scrap value because of high govt rebates which are subtracted off ARF payable. so it looks cheap, but kosong value
  23. Buy the standard rwd model, they use similar batt as byd did byd SE got mention to u that their car charging intake rate lower than tesla? that means it will be slower for byd as compared to tesla to charge 10% to 80% for same fast charger
  24. Update to the topic: Now it is really cheaper to own a EV in CHINA. Price wars has the main players (BYD, TESLA and others) to drop their prices drastically to fight the new comer XIAOMI. Now only SGD20,000 can get you a very decent EV by BYD.
  25. There is a reason why BYD is slashing prices outside of their main market in China (95% of sales). See video below. Batteries which make up 30% to 40% of the cost of making a BEV is expected to half by end of this year. BYD makes their own batteries for their BEV vehicles. BYD isn't the only one suffering in China. Other Chinese BEV manufacturers are under the pump and most will either go bankrupt or merge with rivals. Expect more price cuts BYD throughout the year.
