Apollo 1st Gear July 12, 2007 Share July 12, 2007 Senior civil servant fined for drink driving By S Ramesh, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 12 July 2007 1729 hrs SINGAPORE: A senior civil servant in the Ministry of Trade and Industry has been convicted for drink driving. Deputy Secretary Goh Chye Boon was fined $2,500 and disqualified from driving all classes of vehicles for 18 months. He pleaded guilty to committing the offence at 2.58am on 14 May this year. Police had stopped his car at Bukit Timah Road and Goh was found to have had alcohol in his body that exceeded the prescribed limit. In mitigation, Goh's lawyer said his client was not given to drinking. He had joined some friends for drinks to celebrate a successful end to some difficult negotiations he was leading. But he had one too many. Goh was much in the forefront last year when he chaired the organising committee of the IMF-World Bank meetings held in Singapore. Asked if any action would be taken against Goh, a spokesman for the Public Service Division said the PSD will review the case and decide on the appropriate action to be taken. - CNA/ir ↡ Advertisement

Ldawn88 2nd Gear July 12, 2007 Share July 12, 2007 if it goes on media, most likely his career advancement will be affected. if you are a scholar, as long as you do not screw up, your path will more or less be there. so you know how the reverse goes. too bad his case is not like in entertainment, like Li Ming Shun, where such case raise his popularity instead. Chimp Clutched July 12, 2007 Share July 12, 2007 I think the fine should be pegged to the car the person was driving when the offense takes place. e.g. 50% of the new car value. That will be a good deterrent.
