Hi fellow MCFers, need your help in this matter. I am intending to get a '04 Mazda RX-8. U know, to enjoy a coupe while still The details are as follows:

Price: $73000

Mileage: 56000km

COE: $27500

OMV: $37600

Lets assume $5k downpayment and 5 yr loan @ 2.98%. As I will only be driving it for 2yrs or so, can I break even by then? Is it worthwhile to buy?

And what are the things to look out for as the RX-8 is running on the rotary engine? I know that constant checking of engine oil is one.

Thanks!! [:)]

um.... I love the RX series, and since you accidentally posted it here....

Cars always have a depreciation. Never will you break even(unless you REALLY REALLY MAKE THE CALCULATION DIRECT TO DECIMAL). Though you took a 5 year loan and only drive it for 2 years, with the OMV, a full repayment will be needed. Unless you sell direct to another party, its possible.

Checks, same as normal cars. Water, Oil, brake oil etc...

Fuel on the other hand is another issue. The RX8 is a guzzler. Its a rotary NA. [thumbsup]

bro,

you have good taste. and it's a good thing you have waited for this time to buy. everyone's getting rid of their RX8!

"worthwhile" is relative. if you can stomach the depreciation, then any amount is worth it if you have fun/love the car.

are you really sure you want to own it? have you tried driving it around? does it fulfill your hauling needs?

Although they are 1.3L, they are quite thirsty. so be prepared for hefty petrol bills (just went up today!) also must constantly check oil. AND be prepared to pay good money if you need to service the rotary. it's not 4/6/8 pistons that can be individually stripped. if something goes, the whole thing goes.

you need to calculate yourself, using a spreadsheet to see what your balance and penalty is at the end of every year... don't just pop a question and expect people to do the mathematics for you (no offense).

good luck! [thumbsup]

I think rotary engines dont last as long. Maybe 100k requires a rebuild? Thirsty is an issue and lack of torque at low revs will make it a biatch to drive in town for a manual. The Auto version is pretty bad performance figures comparatively. A turbo rotary addresses some of the torque issues like the last rx-7.
