Galvanised is electroplated or dipped in zinc.

Protection works by Zinc rusting in place of iron.

So if iron is exposed, it will still not rust (adversely at least) if there is zinc around.

But not able to find any information on tuff kote.

you need to start 2 posts in 2 days for this ?? smash.gif my take, unless you intend to change cars every 15 years OR you live next to the beach/sea/lake, its redundant in singapore.

Hi Shinshino, all my cars undercarriage, wheel arches and inside the doors have been treated with an elastomeric proprietory rustproofing coating since early 80s. There are several reasons as to why it would be advisable to sent your car for rustproofing and depending on where.

Even for my continental car, I have it treated to protect the undercarriage.

The reasons are as follows:

1. The original untreated metal undercarriage is easily prone to dents from stones, debris, etc while driving on the road. Overtime, rusts began to appear because the untreated undercarriage is not protected.

2. If the untreated metal undercarriage is not protected with a coating, the sound of stones, hard debris, etc that hit on the undercarriage is very irritating not to mention damages as per item (1).

As far as the undercarriage is concerned, this sprayed layer prevents stones, etc hitting on the undercarriage thus acting as a protection layer as well as sound insulation.

Some car distributors provide the above FOC but even if they don't provide, it costs only about S$200+ for the 1st treatment which is only a small fraction of the car price. You will need to sent to the applicator once a year for their inspection and they will redo the application at only S$60.00.

If you intend to sell your car later, this warranty for the rustproofing is transferable to the buyer and this add slightly higher value in your selling price.

I doubt so. Most modern car body is galvanised and should be pretty rust resistant if the bare metal is not exposed.

i was looking at the honda fit and you can see the bare metal at the rear wheel arches.
