Used Kia Rio, anything to take note of?

Asking on behalf of a fren who's looking for a budget 4-dr non-HB sedan, n he's kinda zoomed in on the Kia Rio.

There seems to be 1.4, 1.5 n 1.6L versions. Any good/bad comments about them? thanx!

I am currently driving a Verna which seems to be almost the same car except the brand and some parts. Quite reliable and no problems for me so far. Only got a few wear and tear parts to replace and mine has already hit 100000km. Only bad thing is the interior has alot of hard plastic parts but for me at least there is no rattling noises even at high speeds.

yah, he was considering the Verna at first, but it seems tat the Rio has better FC than Verna....wat's ur FC?

I had owned a RIO 1.4M.

 

Pro:

1. Quite and smooth engine.

2. FC around 17km/l with 70% highway and 30% city.

3. Never had any problem. Change car to a Sienta due to family needs for 7 seater.

4. Low maintenance each time less than $100 doing it outside, cause C&C is very exp.

 

Cons:

1. Not as solid ride as my 1st ride SEAT IBIZA.

 

 

Car owned:

1st car - SEAT IBIZA (2nd Hand 3 to 6 yrs old) - Power steeling pump broke

2nd Car - Hyundai Accent 2001 (2nd Hand 3 to 6 yrs old) - Drive shaft need to chaneg soon.

3rd Car - KIA RIO 1.4M 2006 (Brand new) no problem at all.

4th Car - Toyota Sienta Sep 2008 (Brand new) no major problem.

 

BEST car to drive is SEAT IBIZA, most comfortable and quite car to drive is KIA RIO 1.4M.

thanks for the insight....but ur Rio was brand new n u used it for 2 yrs....so even if got problems, u won't know until much later (ie the next owner would experience them, rite?)

yes .. you are right, what I mean so long you do your proper maintenance on it it should be ok. My friend bought a 2nd hand 1.5A RIO hatcback and so far ok and is happy with it.

Frankly, it gives me much problem as compared to my friend's Sunny. My FC is 9km/L, 80% small road and 20% highway. Life of spare parts are usually shorter.

 

I heard that new model doesn't have much problem and the FC is better though.

 

I felt that old model owners are like guinea pig

JB had lots of Kia Rio parts too and is cheap too. My friend went in to change all his parts there & servicing.....I think he left the engine hadn't change.....Ha Ha Ha

hi guys, i'm looking for a korean make too. Considering a 2006 Cerato but is wondering if it is worth to buy as compared to a Rio or Getz. Any advise on the cost to maintain one of these cars?

for 20% highway driving n automatic (i assume), 9 km/l isn't tat bad.

i think he's looking at 2005/06 n maybe 2007....

My verna fc is around 14km/l. Maintenance is not very high. Spend about 300 a month on it including fuel.

yes, look at newer model after 2004/5, it will be better in terms of spare parts and "intelligence" of e vihicle

05 Dec Rio 1.4m. Other than normal wear and tear, no major breakdowns but my mileage is about 150000km already as I do outdoor sales hence running around quite alot. Fuel consumption wise as I am on 16"hence is abit poor, about 11-12km/l, but when I was on 15", getting around 13-14km/l.

Nope. Mostly short distance and not highway. Maybe mine is the manual version thats why. And I am on the stock 14 inch rims. My mileage around 100000km only though.

Cerato 1.6M vs RIO 1.4M

1. FC - RIO better

2. Bigger room space - Cerato

3. Bigger Boot - Cerato

4. Lower Rd Tax - RIO

5. Lower Maintenance in term of parts - RIO

6. Power - Not sure, thou Cerato has a bigger CC but the weight is heavier too.

 

I chose RIO is because the interial space is big enough (bigger than VIOS) and lower running cost. Hence It depend what you are looking for, do test drive both and you will know which fit your need best.

Please list down your pirority in order from MUST have to nice to have. Only then choice become clear.
