Sharing experience about buying budget performance cars

sharing my experience with regards to buying/selling used cars. My personal experience tells me if you go for budget performance cars which fitted into the price range of 60-90k, in particular turbo models like evo/rex or worst, poor fc cars like rx8, be prepared to have the mentally to hold on to them till scraped as they can be a bitch when come to selling off. Most/all dealers don't want to even hear from you even if you are willing to accept any price other than paper value. Your only choice is to sell on your own. Not as easy as it seems unless yours is a truly special one or fully stock and first owner. Apart from that, you got to wait for the right buyer to come in as those interested are normally quite young, not necessary cash rich or not ready for such cars. I never have so much problem selling off my previous few rides be it to dealer or on my own until this time, which was eventually sold. i will be very careful when going back for such cars again. all thanks to our wonderful COE system which shaped the way how our car buyers think, now, including me, unfortunately...

Thanks for sharing. The COE system is indeed one that pisses me off to the extreme. However, how did the COE affect your selling of the car? What was your ride btw? I happen to love these old performance cars, and intend to hld on to mine for as long as I can. Am even prepared to re-new COE when it expires in 2014...

Lol, that is why i don't like to buy 2nd hand cars, avoid unless you really really need a car, if not wait...

i managed to sell off my evo 9(i am the second owner) through my regular workshop contact. According to some dealers i talk to, they preferred normal saloon, mpv as it is the majority preferred choice. Actually quite true if you look up the sgcarmart. Performance cars of this kind are not really moving even in a bullish used car market. Local used car market are really uniquely singapore. If you look at overseas market, evos, rex are very well received, some even placed it along side BMW m3, ford gt etc..

 

i am taking myself as an example. If there isn't a expiry date aka COE on cars, i would definitely keep it as manufacturers don't make such cars anymore. But being practical, i know my time is really up. It is funny when you get older as priority shifted. i have to be answerable to a young kid's future, a better home, a wife that hate tracking, noisy cars and think like LTA/PAP.

Actually performance cars are widely sought after.

Its the damn road tax and sky high insurance that puts people off.

according to eurospeed i think....such sports car actually is a niche market and there are always buyers regardless of market conditions...so they do this type of budget sports car and make money off it...

WoW! Evo 9 Worth to keep wad! Even if have to re-new COE. But being practical is not wrong either lah, guess we all grow up one day

 

Such cars are novelties on the market and there's a demand for them, no doubt this demand is less than we'd hope. Still, that means acquiring one for less is a distinct possibility so there's a silver lining nonetheless
