AWD 2nd Hand RX300 or Murano

Hi All,

Duo to CAT B COE become higher and higher, forget about new car,

but still cannot resist the true SUV's temptation, switch to 2nd hand market, narrow down to this 2 models, because they are true SUV (AWD), and welcome this 2 models' owner to input your advoce, pros or cons

My budget 50k or lesser,

expectation,

1. 2 to 3 years COE remaining,

2. Mileage < 100k Km

3. accident free

4. timing belt (if apply) replaced

as per Sgcarmrt, current Murano 2.5 is awd,

Based on ur budget, unlikely u can get the current one. I am sure it is fwd as I looked at it before but gave it up and got outlander because of the fwd and 4spd cvt

Ummm the AWD system is not a full time one, at least on the murano. Most of the time it runs as a fwd unless there is a loss of traction, then torque is transferred to the rear wheels. There is also a diff lock for low speed off-road work, which is activated by a button on the centre console.

 

Disclosure: This info is based on the 2nd-gen murano, my mom drives the 3.5l version. When looking for a car for her we also cross-shopped with the the 3rd-gen rx350 which I believe runs a similar "awd" system (fwd until traction is lost). I also believe the 1st-gen awd murano runs a similar awd system as the 2nd-gen.

 

I'm not sure what you mean by "true SUV" as most of the crossovers we see are road biased anyway and will never leave the pavement. If you want full-time awd maybe you can consider a Subaru or range rover or something (Suzuki grand vitara?).

There is also one Grand Cherokee in the price range currently listed...

I have driven Nissan Patrol in other country, it's also not all time AWD, it has selsction switch to select:

"4x4H, 4x4L, RWD", on normal pavement, select RWD,

don't know whether murano has the same

Harrier profile is quite like RX, don't know whether AWD?

CX7 and Cherokee are not so common, don't know how its reliability?

now RX is almost the most common SUV in Singapore recently

Yeah dunno about the 2.5 murano, at the time only the 3.5l version was available.

 

The CX-7 has decent performance but is a little spartan on features and I found the ride to be on the sporty side for a softroader. It's got it's own niche I feel. Done a lot of mileage in one belonging to a friend, up and down peninsular Malaysia including Cameron highlands, decent handling and pretty controlled when tossed around the bends (and I did a lot of tossing). Plus boost kicking in is always fun. Just that the comfort level does not compare.

Murano different, it's not built to go off-road, only to look like it can. I guess it can handle decent soft-roading. The diff lock button just says AWD (Lock). It's meant for low speed crawling, only effective up to 30km/h after which it disengages. All electronic. You cannot choose between fwd and awd in regular driving. No low and high ranges etc.

Depends how important the off-road ability is I guess...
