A carry-on suitcase that gets on-the-go travellers, students and busy professionals to their destination three times faster than walking launches Indiegogo campaign.
The Modobag - a motorised, rideable carry-on smart luggage was launched on Indiegogo on 21st July by Chicago-based entrepreneurs Kevin O'Donnell and Boyd Bruner, an award-winning Technical Director who won the 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing Daytona 200.

With a passion for travel and innovation, they formed an all-star team of technologists, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology educated urban mobility specialist and leaders from Product Development Technologies, an award-winning consumer development and design firm, to create a best-in-class carry-on and travel experience.

With the goal to change the way the world travels, Modobag has set a campaign funding goal of US$50,000 ($67,360) and features limited Early Bird specials of US$995 ($1340) - 30 percent off retail as well as several other rewards for backers.

Modobag gets riders to their destination up to three times faster than walking and features top speeds of 8mph (13km/h), a dual wheel braking system, quick release foot pedals, extendable towing handle and high performance CNC-machined, sealed-bearing steering column. While riding, consumers can also enjoy the convenience of touch control dashboard with LED backlighting and dual USB charging ports for mobile devices and portable electronic devices to keep charged and in control while on the move.

Modobag was designed to be durable, surprisingly lightweight (8.6kg), spacious (over 80 percent can be used for storage) and perfectly sized for overhead bins while being completely TSA, FAA, and IATA compliant. The bag is constructed of a high strength ballistic nylon shell that features side mounted pockets for tablets and phones, a secure crushproof laptop pocket for easy access, and polyurethane composite wheels to ensure smooth transport via motor or pull-behind.

Made in the U.S.A, Modobag has a maintenance free, belt-driven 200 watt electric motor and is powered by UL Lithium batteries that last for 10km or 10 full phone charges based on a 82kg commuter. The connected carry-on includes a Lithium Smart Charger that can utilise household outlets to fully charge the suitcase and contains a Digital Battery Capacity Gauge that enables riders to keep an eye on battery life.

The smart luggage provides an optional 'connected' feature that comes with a mobile companion app for iOS and Android users equipped with GPRS and GSM technology that can track Modobag's location and send consumers 'Proximity Alerts', even if the suitcase is underground in storage (not usually detected by traditional GPS).

"We created Modobag to revolutionise the way people travel and introduce one of the biggest updates to carry-on luggage since rolling suitcases were launched in the 1970's," said O'Donnell, CEO of Modobag. "With Modobag's user-friendly, rideable carry-on, anyone from professionals to college students can eliminate their daily stress of commuting by getting to their destination faster, keeping their electronics charged and having fun while they do it."
