D2R HID bulbs are most reliable among D2 series of D2C and D2S this is because it comes with metal holding bracket which is to uphold of high temperature, longer electrode to supplement brightness,bigger burner some call it alumina arc tube(this is the best part of D2R which produce better light intensity). It also comes with electrode cover to divert the light to underside part of car whichD2C and D2S do not have.

Most importantly, bulb with good quality, comes with good alumina arc tube. The highest wear occurs when the arc tube is ignited while still hot and before the metallic salts have recrystallized. That why those China made bulb does not last long and addition to that xenon gas fill on arc tube is also important for HID bulb to produce better light intensity. Philips HIDs are come with genuine xenon.
